Aaron Lines hails from Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada, a remote little town 300 miles north of Edmonton. Living Out Loud, his debut, is a solid, if undistinguished, slab of heartland rock that recalls the work of fellow countryman Bryan Adams and, at times, John Mellencamp circa 1985. With the help of producer Chris Farren, Lines has crafted a set that initially sounds slick and powerful, but one that is ultimately undermined by trite lyrics and hackneyed musical ideas that were hackneyed years ago. Still, his freshly scrubbed look and smooth delivery will likely appeal to younger fans and to those who like their country with a rock edge instead of a down-home twang. --Jim Caligiuri

The burning question for this soundtrack is, Can rapper Queen Latifah handle the vocal demands a Pearl Bailey-ish character singing standards by Billy Strayhorn, Irving Gordon, and Randazzo & Weinstein? The answer is yes. Her rendering of Strayhorn's "Lush Life" is particularly pleasant, and is produced and arranged beautifully by Mervyn Warren, who did most of the work on the album. Danny DeVito takes a stab at the Gershwins' "They Can't Take That Away from Me" and delivers it adequately, with a touch of charm. The disc also includes originals by Sly & the Family Stone, Dean Martin, and Mel Tormé. The only drawback is the slightly Muzak-like smooth-jazz score by George Fenton, presented in snippets at the end. --Aaron TassanoCustomer Reviews:

Wow.......2005-04-09
Well, I LOVED his music and he sounds exactly like he does on the radio, which is an added bonus. His voice is so pure and he seems to really be singing from his heart, which it seems like lately a lot of musicians are not.
I would highly recommend this CD to anyone who likes catchy, but meaningful songs.
