For his seventh studio release, his first in three years, Tracy Lawrence turns in a surprisingly mature and substantial set of songs about respect, patience, forgiveness, and life's deceptively simple lessons. Lawrence cowrote three of the strongest tunes, including the title track and first single, a not-quite-so intense echo of George Jones's "Choices." Tip the hat, as well, to his production work, which is chiefly rooted in the sturdy sounds of pedal steel, fiddle, piano, and some raunchy Hank Jr. guitar licks. The only real missteps--the cloying seduction tale "Just You and Me" and the cartoonish, Metallica-meets-hot-country anthem "Up All Night"--are hardly fatal. The highpoints, including the understated but riveting singing on "Unforgiven" and the acoustic bounce of "Steps," show that Lawrence has learned his country lessons well.

INCREDIBLE!.......2000-07-18
I was eager to see which song would be the second release off of this CD. No matter which one he released I didn't think he could go wrong. Every song on this album is great. I am especially impressed with Long Wet Kiss and Up All Night, but when he sings Just You and Me, I have fantasies about him. I have always been a Tracy Lawrence fan (in spite of what the media prints) and I can see he has really matured as a singer. I recently seen him at Fan Fair and as I watched him interact with his fans, I felt I could see he had matured as a person compared to last year when I seen him. I had the opportunity to tell him that I thought this CD was incedible and he said thank you, that they were really proud of it. He has a devout fan here in Janesville.
This is the best CD that I have purchased in a long time........2000-07-16
I have always been a Tracy Lawrence fan(in spite of what the media prints), therefore I could hardly wait to listen to this Cd in it's entirety. I was not disappointed! I have not only played it until I know the words to every song, I have passed it on to family members and friends. I was very eager to see what the second release off of it would be. I felt no matter which song he released he couldn't go wrong. Every song is incredible! I would like to say I have a favorite but they are all so good that it's hard to say. I am particulary fond of Long Wet Kiss and I've Been Up All Night, but when I heard Just You and Me,I fell in love with Tracy all over again. If he has learned from his personal experiences-so be it, but his musical knowledge shines through on this CD. I recently had the opportunity to tell this to him at Fan Fair. I could see the change in his demeanor just by watching him with his fans. I choose not to listen to what the media prints and let him know he's got a devoted fan in Janesville. Keep the music coming Tracy.
The best yet and more to come!.......2000-06-21
I am from Tracy's hometown and went to school with him, however it does not make me prejudice. I love his music, because it has meaning, depth, rhythm, and touches your soul.He has come a long way and has worked hard to get where he is today. No matter what comes his way, he proves to be a better singer and person, because we all have lessons to learn. That is what life is all about, isn't it? He is also a wonderful down to earth person and I hope he keeps on doing what he does best!
Great.......2000-05-16
I think this may be the best CD Tracy has ever put out. I will be glad to see him on tour when he comes to Nashville.
He's back!.......2000-04-20
As a HUGE Tracy Lawrence fan, I have to say I think this is his best album to date. It's so great to have him back on the scene, with such a terrific list of songs. I love every one of them, but my favorites are The Holes That He Dug, and The Man I Was. If your waffling about picking this one up or not, do it you won't be sorry. It's fantastic!

hard hittin' punk rock.......2003-09-17
This record is great. The energy that comes out of this record is just flawless. My favorite song on this record is definately "fruitless fortunes". I get a western feel to most of the tracks on this cd, which makes stand out from the rest of the records out there. These guys rock harder than most other bands out there and this cd proves that.
One Awesome Cd, but kinda short.......2003-03-13
I first heard of the $wingin' Utter$ when I played "Tony Hawk 2", two years later I decided to pick up the Cd. Man, what was I missing. The album is probably one of the best punk Cds I have ever listend to, with mile a minute guitar riffs, and Johnny Bonells vocals. The cd opens with the title track "Five Lessons Learned", which is one of the shortest songs one the cd, and after hearing it in TH2, I already knew it. The next song is "Tell Me Lies", which is one of those mile-a-minute songs, in which Bonnell talks about how everyone in life tells lies at some point. One of the best sons on the Cd is"Promise To Distinction", whch sounds like a cross between the Utters and the Pogues. And there is even a guest appearance by Social D bass player, John Maurer. Through the Cds 37 or so minutes you are taken all over different music styles. Such as Irish Folk (A New Day Rising), country (Fuitless Fortunes), and a hint of ska (Unpopular Again). But the three best tracks on the Cd are "The Stooge" which is a song about past regrets and how Bonnell played a pawn. "As You Start Leaving" is another good one, with a definite pop- punk beat assured to get your fingers snapping, andt closes with a realy kickin' guitar solo. "Untitled 21" a song that in my opinon sounds like the singer had a downfall after he turned 21. It is one of those "mosh pit, go crazy" songs, which is a very quick 2:11 song that becomes addicive when you hear it. In all after hearing some of their other cds,I think that this is by far the best. So guys keep the good work, and if you are looking for a good "No Holds Barred" punk cd pick up "5 Lessons Learned", you won't be dissapointed.
They are back BIG time !.......2002-01-26
After some bad years they are back at the best. This is no 1 song record all tracks are really great and i cant highlight eny song chose they are all just so good !
It is just something you cant describe with words , you have to hear it yourself !!!
true to life.......2001-03-23
in a day and age where the title punk rock has become little more than a sad joke, and band after band after band pushes out bubblegum performances aimed at the 15 year old psyche, a band which stay true to roots should be praised. I am here to priase the Swingin Utters and their Five Lessons Learned album. Something in Johnny's voice screams of sincerity. The premier track, Tell Me Lies, is a ballad of the tired and futureless, where, beleive it or not, punk rock comes from. Likewise, on Untitled 21 the feelings of remiscience ring true to anyone who thinks back to better days and livelier times. When you are looking for hard-edged music to pack a punch like a kick from a canal-mule you must turn to the utters, and they will not let you down.
By the way, they are the best live show going at this point in time, and fill a void left by Bad Religion when they shamelessly sold out.
Outstanding! The next Best Punk band after BAD RELIGION!.......2001-02-11
Maybe I'm being a bit biased, but I DO LOVE punk rock music. BAD RELIGION being the greatest-But to tell the truth, Swingin' Utters certainly aren't very far behind. This really is an amazing record,Five Lessons Learned rocks and although some of my friends don't think so,tracks like "A promise to Distinction" also rule, such a great and original combination of Solid Punk Rock and ol' British Folk music. As I said for my review of BAD RELIGION's "No Control" I repeat that each of these individual songs have about 10 times as much meaning as your average Pop-song. Oh,I almost forgot, that girl who thought this was a SWING record:3,2,1.................... BAHAAHHHAAAHAHA-HA-BLAWWWWWWWWWWW-HA-HA! You are intensely bent!

'When The Light Comes In'..........2002-07-27
As you know Cornershop are back. They had almost called it quits 4 years ago due to the success & stress that came with When I Was Born For The 7th Time & the smash hit remarkable song Brimful Of Asha.
The 2 most outstanding tracks on this EP happen to be
1. Returning From The Wreckage which could easily be passed off as an alternative to Sleep On The Left Side. Returning From The Wreckage incorporates outstanding use of Violins & the overall quirky & funkiness of the good hearted band that is Cornershop & Tjinder really sings well on this as per always. (Just beautiful).
2. The next outstanding track is actually the Osymyso mix of Lessons Learned From Rocky I-III which I find quite better than the normal version as the mix has a very good funky dance vibe feel to it.
This EP is really worth it for the above 2 alone however the later mixes may well be enjoyed for any one ready to step up to the dance-floor.
That said; let's hope Cornershop live to make many more records.
