Everyone goes crazy over Tim McGraw, Alan Jackson and George Strait, yeah there music is good, but lets face it there not bad looking either. Chad may not have there looks but his music is awesome. Video is great too! Maybe a new 2000 artists on the rise?

Thirty seconds into the CD-opening title track of Chad Brock's sophomore effort, you realize where you've been consigned: a place where "fate" means forgetting to have your mail forwarded to your new address. It's a place where mundane guitar riffs and obnoxious guitar solos rule, where the sound of a live drummer makes you yearn for a drum machine, and where loving a woman is "just like breathing." Poor gal. Apparently, making an album is just like breathing too--an activity that doesn't require much thought or passion. That title track is one of two songs that Brock cowrote; the other one, "This," offers synthetic handclaps and couplets such as "Your lips just seem to fit me / All this love is makin' me dizzy." No reason to become fixated on lyrics, however--there's also the stock production and bland vocals. Then there's the ridiculous new "Y2K" verse on Hank Williams Jr.'s "A Country Boy Can Survive" ("Computer man says it's the end of time / December 31st, 1999"), but we're back on lyrics again. Computers, incidentally, are just fine when they're used to post the two-bit animation on Chad Brock's Warner Bros. Web site. The real tip-off comes in the liners, when the very first thank you goes out to "Country Radio" (capitalized). Obviously, Country Radio is the primary receptacle for this kind of slight fare, so not since Johnny Cash's bird-flippin' full-page Billboard ad has a sentiment been more appropriate. --Marc Greilsamer

If you like modern country, you'll love this album. If you are stuck in some elitist rut like Marc Greilsamer and some of the other Amazon reviewers, don't buy it. I bought this album a day or two after it came out, and ever since the first time I put it into the player on my van, the only time it's been back in its jewel case is to take it from house to car, etc. Highlights for me are "yes", hey mister", "she does" and the last track, "if I were you". The album is definitely better than "Chad Brock", which was itself good enough that I had no hesitation in buying "Yes". So go on, treat yourself.

First I thought that, like in most CDs, only the first track was good. But finally, every single song is just great. I can't stop listenning to that CD! I still don't know why Chad Brock isn't all that popular!!

This CD was definatly better then his last one. The songs "The Visit" and "Hey Mister" made me cry, and I love the remake of "A Country Boy Can Survive" Chad Brock needs to put more like this one out. I highly recommend this CD.

Great CD - Kinda Canned.......2000-09-19

I both agree and disagree with the main review of this album. The album is indeed canned - fake drums - or at least a studio drummer who had probably never heard the songs before he went into the studio - boring guitars, etc etc. But the songs themselves are great. Maybe it's poorly produced but I still find myself singing along and enjoying the music. It is quite a shame that country music has slipped so low but it still is a lot of fun.

Burly Chad Brock scored at radio with "Ordinary Life," a predictable three-minute drama about a haggard husband who bolts the suffocating trap of his life, and "Yes!," the true story of the singer's chance meeting with his wife-to-be. But as a serviceable performer with a pleasant, undistinguished voice and a nondescript style that teeters between traditional country and mainstream pop, Brock is only as good as the song he sings. His third album, which reprises those earlier hits as bonus tracks, is a case in point. "The Thought of Bein' in Love," which marries midtempo soft rock with pop sensibility, precedes the banjo-laced "Park the Pickup (Kiss the Girl)," a song that bypasses the suburbs and goes straight for the country boy's heart. Both tunes are custom-made for radio, but after that, Brock stocks his album with a grab bag of material, and most of it goes by in a blur: the sensitive ballads, the occasional edgy tune, and the yahoo novelty songs, including the spectacularly bad "I'd Love to Love You," in which the singer engages in heavy panting to get his intentions across. Brock is a big, likable cuss, to be sure, but if you need something more than affability from your music, better mosey on down the line. --Alanna Nash

I am one of Hank Jr.'s biggest fans and anytime I hear one of his tunes I get a real adrenaline rush and to hear George Jones, a real country legend, singing with Bocephus makes it that much better. On the other hand, Chad Brock's high pitched voice doesn't fit in with this Bocephus tune. If you are a Bocephus fan, buy this one and sing along loudly on Chad Brock's parts.

I heard this remake of the Hank Williams Jr. classic on the radio and just had to buy it. It has a lot of emphasis on Y2K and is quite funny as well. I would say it is a must buy for Country Music fans everywhere.
