3 out of 5 stars Ahead of its time in 1993.......2004-03-18

This was an appealing mixed-gender band from Arkansas whose shot at a major-label release flamed brightly but unfortunately quickly. Their only album, released in 1993, is a prime slice of the definitive "contemporary country" at the time. Deftly produced and keyed by Nashville stalwarts Mike Lawler & Harold Shedd (Alabama, Reba, Billy Ray Cyrus, Kenny Rogers and a zillion other acts), the recording is top-notch. Way up-front are the lead vocals -- powerful, full, terrific, on-the-money from a young woman named Shellee Morris. Overall the selections are a bit uneven but the high points such as "Let It Be Love" are VERY high. And "Dance" -- with its superkinetic hoedown pace, exuberant spirit and sexy male vocal interjections -- remains a staple everywhere from country dancehalls to aerobics classes. ("Dance! Dance! Get out on the floor and DANCE!") Although not songwriters, the band's vocals and orientation imbue a women's POV througout. Female country fans in particular will enjoy this album. Get back together and tour, Twister Alley!

5 out of 5 stars Uptempo dance music country style.......2003-07-19

As far as I know, this was the only album by Twister Alley, but it's a great slice of rocking country music to get those toes tapping. The members were Shellee Morris (vocal), Amy Hitt (guitar and backing vocals), Steve Goins (lead guitar and backing vocals), Lance Blythe (acoustic guitar), Randy Loyd (bass) and Kevin King (drums).

If you remember them for one song, it is likely to be Dance - if this track can't make you do just that, you must be very determined not to dance. Most of the album is filled with upbeat, danceable music and there is also a club mix version of Dance. Many of the songs are original, but one classic oldie is included - the fifties rock'n'roll classic Young love, which is actually one of the slowest tracks here.

Like so many other might-have-been stars, Twister Alley had their chance but they were unable to grasp it for whatever reason. These days, record companies are not noted for their perseverance. Nevertheless, this is a great album of rocking country music.

This CD rocks, it's a shame the band isn't together anymore.
