5 out of 5 stars Almost Genius.......2007-04-24

I bought these when they were first released (1993 & 1994). Bought the first one "Into the Twangy-First Century" on a whim - because I recognized Russell Smith on the cover. Smith was/is the songwriter/signer for the Amazing Rhythm Aces, one of my favorite bands of all time.

I bought them and made a conscious decision to keep them in good shape thinking: "no way these oddball recordings would ever be re-issued." Glad I was wrong for you Run C&W newbies . . . welcome to the club! The musicianship is amazing. I mean, listen to this line-up:

VINCE MELMED:SINGER/SONGWRITER who has played with the Eagles, Bob Dylan, Jimmy Buffett, Dan Fogelberg, Bobby Womack, Rosanne Cash, J.D. Souther, Rita Coolidge and Danny O'Keefe.

RUSSELL SMITH: leader of the Amazing Rhythm Aces and writer of the classic song 'Third Rate Romance';

BERNIE LEADON: formerly w/ the Flying Burrito Brothers, the Eagles, and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band;

JIM PHOTOGLO: prolific singer/songwriter whose most famous song may be the #1 'Fishin' In the Dark' by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.

As Rug Burns would say, "'preciate it."

5 out of 5 stars This Album Is A Ball!.......2007-03-26

I'm sure this album was intended as nothing more than a parody of '60s R&B music, with the humorous verse changes and anecdotes included. What transpired is a delightful version of these old standards done Bluegrass style by a very talented group of musicians. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it!

5 out of 5 stars Great Listening.......2007-01-12

Greetings. I made the purchase and enjoyed listening. I took it to work, and it was an instant hit with my co-workers! We all listen to different styles of music, and we all love it! I ended up makeing a purchase of a second copy for one of my co-workers.

Not only is it, Just plain funny, but it is great to listen too at the same time. I recomend it to anyone, country music fan or not!

5 out of 5 stars Bad to the Bonegrass.........2006-09-29

I bought these albums years ago, and somehow misplaced them; I can't believe that they are finally being reissued. Run C&W were doing bluegrass covers of Motown hits before it occured to anyone else; the difference is in their drive and passion for both types of music. Their music could easily descended into cornball territory if it didn't hit you so hard in the gut when you hear it. Highlights are "My Girl", "Walkin' the Dog", "Stop in the Name of Love", "Papa was a Rolling Stone" and on and on. Forget "Strummin' with the Devil"; these guys are the real Mccoy...

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant bluegrass.......2005-06-24

As many of you already know, RUN C&W was actually Bernie Leadon and friends having sport with a bunch of soul classics done up bluegrass style. Some of the remakes are better than the originals. And wait until you hear their straight-out parody of ACHY BREAKY HEART (here called ITCHY TWITCHY SPOT). I defy you not to laugh out loud. There is even a back story to this "group" enclosed with the CD. Wait until you catch their names. How sad this has never been reissued. It is more than just a curiosity piece. It is proof positive that great music is great music, no matter how interpreted (unless it's being done by Michael Bolton, of course). If you are a fan of bluegrass or soul or even the Eagles (Leadon's former group), do not miss this puppy. For what it's worth, I am a former music and film reviewer and am not normally known to rave about anything.

5 out of 5 stars Good Music (brings satisfaction).......2004-08-27

I'm not huge country music or bluegrass fan, but this album blows me away. I got it from a friend I work with (I looked here to buy it because I wanted to support them. Unfortunately it's out of print. I want the other album too!). When "Hold on I'm Comin" starts, I jump around like I'm at a great rock concert. It's crazy. I like the Run C & W versions of songs better than the originals, and that's very rare for me. If you can get your hands on this album, listen to it!

5 out of 5 stars Great Music.......2004-01-17

This Cd shows that good music can be put into just about any genre and still come across fresh. The treatment of these tunes was outstanding and refreshing. I would recommend it to any who enjoys good music.

5 out of 5 stars Why We Download.......2003-10-03

This album is the perfect example ast to why people download. THe album is one of the funnest, most original concept that I have come across in a long time. Way before O'Brother, this group got together and put together a pure peice of bluegrass ear candy. However it's out of print, you can find used copies here at times (Thanks Amazon!) but you'll have to pay a pretty penny. MCA, if you are listening, one word for ya, RE-ISSUE.

5 out of 5 stars Incredible, continued fan interest........2003-02-14

I have a few CD reviews posted on a friend's web site, and Run C&W generates an incredible amount of mail. Everyone loves them! When you get top musicians having a great deal of fun with music they obviously love, how could you not love the result. Run C&W is a BLAST to listen to!
