great early compilation.......2007-04-27

Despite the photo of a mature Hoyt Axton these songs all date from the early to mid 60s. Back then he was a young high energy folk singer and several of these songs feature Hoyt alone with his guitar. Some great songs like 500 Miles(a hit for Peter Paul and Mary) and Greenback Dollar(Kingston Trio) and almost all the songs here were written by Hoyt. Its a fascinating trip back to the formative days of a great American singer-songwriter.

I have enjoyed the music on this CD very much. It is great to be able to get older CD's and I have found Amazon to be a great place to shop for music and book's at this location.

Nice Package of Hits & Rarities.......2004-03-05

Unless you are willing to spring for the fantastic Bear Family sets, Jimmie Davis material is hard to find. Davis was one of the most popular Country music stars before World War II and his career lasted until he died in 2000. He is most famous for his song "You Are My Sunshine" which is included here with other hits such as "Nobody's Darling But Mine." This set is an excellent companion to the the "I Wonder Who's Kissing Her Now" 2 disc set as it includes hits not on that set. Outside of the now out of print Country Music Hall of Fame disc, this is the best single disc introduction to classic Davis material.

18 top notch songs from Vern Gosdin. This Made-in-England CD, liner notes tell in part: "...contains the recording cut for the short-lived Ovation and AMI labels, at a time when Gosdin was at his artistic pea. That they were not more successful at the time wad sown to those small labels lacking the finance to market and promote, rather than the quality of Gosdin's performances. His conviction and strenth show that not all musical power is raw on a compilication of sincerity and beautiful music...." This is a keeper if you are looking for everthing The Voice has recorded. Just #18- "Cowboys Are Common As Sin" is worth the price. You won't be disappointed.
