Lisa Angelle [Enhanced]

Well, now, here's an interesting one. New Orleans bred, but Los Angeles cured, from the sound of it, Lisa Angelle arrives at her splashy debut with a portfolio of writer's credits (Wynonna, Trisha Yearwood, Kathy Mattea) and the confidence to perform all-original material and coproduce with popmeister Andrew Gold. On a song like "I Wear Your Love," an infectious Cajun hoedown with hiccuping vocals and goofy lyrics ("Like the smile on Mona Lisa, baby / Everybody sees it"), it's apparent that she's got a lot of music in her and isn't afraid to cross sacred boundaries. Though at times it's tempting to write her off as a dilettantish Shania wannabe ("Twisted," "Midnight Rodeo"), she comes up with some real music--"I Don't Know Why," which conjures the spirit of Patsy Cline, and "Sparrow," a prayerful spiritual ballad. One thing's for sure after hearing Angelle's debut: you'll know she's been here. --Alanna Nash

4 out of 5 stars Angelle Food for the Ears.......2007-05-31

Lisa Angelle's self-titled album is a good and will make you wonder what happened to the Loisiana singer. Why did she not get picked up? She has a good, distinct, full alto voice. The music is good. Here are some tracks:

4,3,2,1 - good beat, singer bids a faithless man farewell

Kiss This - a sassy reply to a man trying to get the singer back

Wear Your Love - this song really moves along with a strong tempo, makes the listener want to jump around with it.

Twisted - amusing song about play between lovers

Daddy's Gun- really good and powerful lyrics about a boy who's had enough of the domestic violence and takes matters, and a gun, into his own hands. Thoughtful and ironic. Also features crunchy guitar.

I Don't Know Why - Lisa does a good Patsy Cline.

This album is a strong 4 stars; almost 5, but not quite. Worth picking up.

I don't know how this one managed to slip by both country radio and the record-buying public largely unnoticed. It hasn't come out of my CD player since I got it, and I still listen to it almost daily. While comparisons to Shania are likely, the material and Ms. Angelle's voice are much stronger. Standout tracks include "I Didn't Want to Know", "4-3-2-1" and "I Don't Know Why." And "Kiss This" beats Shania at her own game. Hope this talented lady gets the opportunity to put out a sophmore release!

I LOVE this CD. My mom bought it for me. I have rarely taken it out of my CD player. I would gladly buy more music from Lisa Angelle. Her unique style is GREAT! I like all of the songs but my favorite three have to be 4,3,2,1 , Twisted and I Wear Your Love. I can't wait for her to put out another album!

5 out of 5 stars Whoa, Momma! That's some good stuff!.......2001-06-12

Lisa Angelle's got quite the voice. Evocative, expressive, versatile,.. driven at others. And to think that she's also the writer and producer. As someone else has suggested, her others-sung hits notwithstanding, Ms. Angelle seems to have saved the best material for her own debut. All I can say is: Faith and Shania, Look Out!!

I have listened to the complete album and I think it is terrific. It is one of the best albums I have heard in several years. What gives DreamWorks? I appreciate the advance copy, but maybe I would like to purchase extra copies for friends. Why do you tease us so!
