Billy Ray Cyrus may be completely convinced of the magnitude of his own heart, but you can't trust him. Throughout his fifth studio album, Cyrus berates himself (or others) for not loving enough, for not letting go, for not living up to others' vague examples, for not spending more time with the kids. The sentiments are expressed in a musical and lyrical language as treacly as it is pat. Even when the themes stretch, Cyrus's voice has the uncanny capacity to transform a genuine line such as "I gave my soul to Jesus at the age of 22" (Cyrus got his start in gospel) into the thinnest gruel. Pity, as sonically
Shot Full of Love is frequently satisfying, the toughest country rock he's yet mustered. Dead Reckoning veteran Mike Henderson dominates the guitar work, though it's hard to imagine him keeping a straight face while Cyrus crows about the "American Dream" or boasts about "rocking this planet." A real country song or two might have redeemed such posturing.

shot full of love-easy on the ears.......2004-03-25
This is one of my favorite collections of his songs- Hows my world treating you, you gotta love it, the lyrics alone are such that we all can relate to having been there and wish we could have put it so elequently. Billys has the ability to vary his vocals according to the theme of every song he sings- and then change the tempo and still make it sound completely different yet equally appealing. The man speaks and it sounds like music to my ears.
BRC is Back.......2003-04-15
So Billy Ray Cyrus is back with new material, a new look, and and all-new, matured sound. While Shot Full of Love is not exactly comeback material, it does put Billy's music in a new light. While his songwriting is essentially the same as always, his voice has a new sound to it. Gruff but refreshingly smooth, Billy coasts through the tracks on this album with beautiful heartfelt emotion. Just read the liner notes, and you will feel what Billy feels, and realize his inspiration. Unfortunately, Shot Full of Love runs through almost exactly like Cover to Cover, the reason it lost a star. Though the songs feel mostly like BRC in his "Storm in the Heartland" days, you do get an updated feel in songs like "Give My Heart to You" and "Busy Man," the two big hits on this album. Although a shades-of-Setzer swinger ("Rock This Planet") and a could-be-Bon Jovi rocker ("Shot Full of Love") are found among the tracks possibly throwing off listeners used to BRC's country-rock style, he generally keeps it as real as he ever has. A success, but for his real comeback and a truly updated sound, check out Southern Rain.
BRC is Back.......2003-04-14
Well, although I wouldn't call this Billy Ray's "comeback" album, it certainly shows some evolution in his sound. True country fans, look somewhere else, but BRC fans, this is the place to turn. With tons of novelty BRC songs like the opening track, you'll find that his song choice hasn't changed much. However, he puts his heart and soul into singing these songs, and his voice has matured greatly from the days of "Achy Breaky." The sound he opts for is more of a "Storm in the Heartland," and it works. With obvious style flair like on the not-even-close-to-country rocking title track and the swinging, shades-of-Setzer "Rock This Planet," it is indeed a fun album. But comeback? No. His true comeback is Southern Rain. I recommend both for the true BRC fan.
~All negative reviews denied. This 'rocks this planet'!~.......2001-10-28
In spite of what the reviewer from amazon.com sais, I think that this is a great album. It is sortof the change-over from two time periods of Billy Ray's music. It's got alot of great songs on it, and is one of the most complex albums I have ever heard.
