A Travis Tritt Christmas -- Loving Time of the Year

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
Travis Tritt is a rocker trapped in a country singer's career, and nowhere is that clearer than here on the rousing rock renditions of "Winter Wonderland" and "Silver Bells." Like Dwight Yoakham's five-star Christmas disc, Tritt's album could be played any time of year and the references to Christmas would merely be footnotes. This is a tough, musically minded assortment of cool originals and choice covers, whether it's the homage to Buck Owens on the Buck classics "Santa Looked a Lot Like Daddy" and "All I Want for Christmas Dear Is You," or the knockout vocal performance of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" done like a '50s rock & roll ballad. Tritt momentarily goes quiet on a touching version of "O Little Town of Bethlehem" and "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day." But even on these two, Tritt is singing like the world depended on it. What a great record! --Martin Keller

4 out of 5 stars Enjoyable .......2007-06-12

It's a seasonal album, so I can't give it 5 stars. It does however showcase Tritt's talent and is great to listen to around Christmas time. If you're considering buying this album and you enjoy Christmas music, buy it. You won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars Travis makes it the happiest time of the year.......2002-07-19

Travis sings eveyone of these Christmas songs from his heart. They make you feel wonderful that time of the year.

4 out of 5 stars Many High Points, A Few Lows.......2000-01-05

Overall, this is a great collection of both original & traditional Christmas tunes. Highpoints include Travis's cover of Buck Owens' "Santa Looked a Lot Like Daddy" (which is even better than the original!), the brisk "Loving Time of Year", & the straight blues of "Christmas Just Ain't Christmas Without You." He also puts a very different spin on "Winter Wonderland" & "Silver Bells", & both work extremely well. The low points come on the traditionals, "Oh Little Town of Bethlehem", "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day", & "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas", all of which are extremely monotonous & drawn-out. But, in the end, it's well worth it to get to the others. (There's always the fast-forward button.)
