From its breathless opening rush of pile-driver strings, Lynn Anderson's signature hit, "Rose Garden," announces itself to be every bit as pop as it is country, and consequently it stands as a supreme example of the countrypolitan sound. A crossover smash, "Rose Garden" was nothing less than a dense, twangy version of Phil Specter's Wall of Sound, all pounding country rhythms, whizzing steel guitar, soaring backing vocals, and dramatic strings. What gets lost a bit in there, though, is that Anderson was a fine and subtle country singer, a gift she displays repeatedly on Golden Classics, never more so than on countrypolitan classics like "How Can I Unlove You" and her thrilling 1972 version of the pop standard "Cry." --David Cantwell

5 out of 5 stars The Very Best of the New Christy Minstrels.......2007-01-10

When I was a small boy in the 1950s, my dad used to bring young sailors home with him sometimes. He or my mom would give them a home-cooked meal and an opportunity to visit with their kids (my siblings and me). In return, sometimes, they would provide engaging conversation and/or musical entertainment. So it was with a couple of young doughboys who would later wow audiences across America and around the world: Dean Jones and Randy Sparks.

While Dean went on to become an actor in the Disney stable and star of such classic films as 'The Love Bug' and 'Beethoven', Randy formed a band and 'sparked' (pun intended!) the Folk Music fad that swept like a wave around the world in the mid-1960s. Named for the Christy Minstrels who rambled from town to dusty town in the Old West entertaining far-flung American settlers, Randy Sparks and the New Christy Minstrels traveled around the world and fanned the cooling embers of our rich folk heritage to a bright, new flame.

Songs like 'Green, Green', 'Ramblin'' and 'Today' as well as many made popular by such other folk artists as Peter, Paul and Mary and the Kingston Trio, were often written and first performed by the Christies. Many of Randy's troupe, such as lead singer Barry Maguire, went on to have great solo careers in the music business.

Randy Sparks and Dean Jones may not remember us, but my dad, Frank King, never tires of reminiscing about entertaining them in our San Diego family home 'way back when.

I am so happy NCM have come out on CD. I have almost every NCM album (yes, vinyl) they made. My father taught me to love good music, no matter what the genre. NCM were my favorites growing up, because they so heavily relied on the voices, rather than a show or the instruments. It is a simple form of performance music, but when you look into the combinations of harmony and the talents that sprang into other areas from this group - it is one of the foundations of today's music.

4 out of 5 stars Presenting/In Person The New Christy Minstrels.......2006-11-05

I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the CD. Given that there are two albums on the CD, it is a good value if this is your type of music.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent.......2005-06-09

Both albums on one CD...what a bargin! A nice touch for the NCM fans!

Album Description

Mac Davis, who penned the Elvis hit "In the Ghetto", was asked by a record exec to write another song with a strong musical "hook." The result--"Baby Don't Get Hooked on Me"--went to #1 (and platinum) and launched Davis on a successful recording, TV and movie career. The Baby album and its successful follow-up are included here.

4 out of 5 stars STOP AND SMELL THE HOOKS!.......2005-12-24

MAC DAVIS-BABY DON'T GET HOOKED ON ME/STOP AND SMELL THE ROSES: This "two-fer" CD (plus bonus tracks, no less) combines a pair of the Lubbock, Texas songwriter/singer's best known albums, the title tracks of each representing two of his biggest hits. Amounting to a better retrospective than his official "Greatest Hits" (at least, after you separate the wheat from the chaff), the four tacked on cuts alone include the smug novelty singalong IT'S HARD TO BE HUMBLE (a pretty fair summary of Davis' often tongue in cheek composing style), country charter TEXAS IN MY REAR VIEW MIRROR, and the autobiographical ROCK N' ROLL I GAVE YOU ALL THE BEST YEARS OF MY LIFE. All of these fine "Lost 45s" are nearly impossible to find nowadays. Among the twenty other songs here, you get the number one anti-commitment classic BABY DON'T GET HOOKED ON ME, the seductive slices NAUGHTY GIRL and ONE HELL OF A WOMAN, and the gospel-colored STOP AND SMELL THE ROSES. All make for guilty pleasure listening, even if there are sometimes long stretches of audio Nutri Sweet in between. When Davis writes a good'un (Kenny Rogers, Elvis, and Gallery all did fine by his SOMETHIN'S BURNIN', IN THE GHETTO, and I BELIEVE IN MUSIC respectively), everything is right in pop music circles. I suggest you do what I did---burn your own customized anthology from the dozen or so pop picks here, and leave that other album's worth of pablum for the elevators and dentist offices. RATING: FOUR HOOKS

I've been looking for "Stop and Smell the Roses" ever since my cassette tape bit the dust 3 years ago. All the songs I grew up to in a better quality. I've even tried to find MP3 downloads for these songs and couldn't! I'm so relieved I finally got what I've been searching so long for.

4 out of 5 stars How Nice To Be A Regular Member of the Public..........2003-03-15

"Poor boy don't need 'lectronics to make no Rock 'n Roll...Poor boy got Boogie-Woogie born right in his soul..." and the lyrics (from "Poor Boy Boogie") goes to tell us that you'd only need sticks, spoons and friends to make good music. This was in the early 70's...when most of us young folks were listening to heavy electrified UNDERGROUND!...But (believe it or not) Mac Davis could, at that time, divert our attention from Henrix and Grand Funk Railroad to his kind of music....Good deep voice, catchy tunes and the lyrics made us feel that, well, we belonged! With the exemption of "Baby Don't Get Hooked on Me" which is everybody's favourite...nice melody....but the words can be dangerous....just don't sing it to your sweetheart....! Get this CD! These songs will last for many years to come...good to listen to while drivin' too!

5 out of 5 stars Great songs by a GREAT entertainer.......2002-09-22

One of the best performers ever. A note for the person who wondered why "Convoy and Rhinestone Cowboy" are missing from the album. Convoy was done by C.W. McCall, and Rhinestone Cowboy was done by Glen Campbell. They shouldn't be on this one!

Big-voiced and soulful (in a supper-club sort of way), Gary Puckett was strictly squaresville. Too sleazy to be Neil Diamond and too stiff to be Tom Jones, he always seemed like he'd be more comfortable in a leisure suit than his ever-present Civil War duds. He made some great singles, though: "Over You," "Woman, Woman," "Young Girl" and "Lady Willpower" are undeniable classics of late '60s "horn rock," and they're all here, along with occasionally successful stabs at such hits of the day as "The Mighty Quinn," "Kentucky Woman" and "Dreams of the Everyday Housewife." Simply put, this is all the Puckett you'll ever need. --Dan Epstein

My wife and I grew up listening to Gary Puckett - having these albums on Cd is a great collection for us. I've heard Gary live in the last few years and he's still 'got it'- he has recorded new material and has a new live CD out that's fantastic.
He's got the chops and can soar when he needs to. Having met him after one concert I can tell you, there's nothing arrogant about him, nor is he a has-been.
Puckett fans will love the memories, the voice and the CD turned up in their car.

5 out of 5 stars A very strong collection of Gary's music.......2002-07-07

Although at first glance this is just a twofer, it is better than a greatest hits, because all the hits that weren't on the two original LP's have been added as bonus tracks. Apart from the hits (Young girl, Lady willpower, Woman woman, Over you and This girl is a woman now), there are many more original songs and covers.

The covers include Lady Madonna (Beatles), Kiss me goodbye (Petula), Honey (Bobby Goldsboro), Kentucky woman (Neil Diamond), To love somebody (Bee Gees), Mighty Quinn (Manfred Mann) and two Glen Campbell songs (By the time I get to Phoenix and Dreams of the everyday housewife). I don't think any of Gary's versions are preferable to the originals, but they are extremely well done and well worth hearing.

Gary and his band, the Union Gap, did not have a long period of success, but they left their mark in these brilliant recordings. I would be interested in buying more of their music if it were available, but everything essential can be found on this CD.

5 out of 5 stars 2 classic albums from Gary Puckett & The Union Gap.......2001-08-23

Throughout their career, they have recorded 7 top 40 hits and they are all on this twofer of his "Woman Woman" and "Young Girl" albums both released in 1968 and 4 bonus tracks added for good measure all in their original mixes. Throughout the compilation, he has added some Puckett styled covers of songs such as "Honey," "By The Time I Get To Phoenix," "The Mighty Quinn (Quinn The Eskimo)," "Lady Madonna," "Kiss Me Goodbye," "Kentucky Woman," "Dreams of The Everyday Housewife" and other hits of the time period this was originally released as well as some classic album tracks such as the earlier mentioned "Don't Make Promises," "My Son," "Paindrops," and others. If you want to buy another disc to compliment the greatest hits compilation you have in your collection or if you only want to buy one CD of Gary Puckett's music and want more than a greatest hits package, this or the Looking Glass CD.... What we should have on CD is the followup album to these 2 albums entitled "Incredible."

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful Harmonies.......2006-11-18

I was a fan of SVB back in the day (still am) and speaking as a singer, this is a wonderful compilation of their first two albums, Afternoon Delight and Rear View Mirror. These guys can sing period. If you love to sing along and like to sing harmony, you'll adore this cd and I recommend you buy it. For those sour apples who have nothing good to say about it, you don't know what you're talking about.

5 out of 5 stars Memory Lane-Revisted.......2006-06-13

The people who wrote negative reviews for this CD, must have been smoking "Wacky Tobaccy". I found this CD refreshing, enjoyable & most of all sentimental. This brought back memories of the enjoyable time of my life-the late 1970s. "Afternoon Delight" was one of the 45s, that I collected. After hearing the samples from "California Day" & "Starland", I had to buy it. "California Day" reminds me of a special lady that I met in the summer of 1979. I'm an old softie & a sentimental guy...so sue me.....

5 out of 5 stars best starland vocal band cd to date just awesome.......2006-05-27

Starland vocal band cd is just awesome it will blow you away. The harmies they have couldnt better even if you try there awesome vocal talent together is just awesome. a must buy Cd today. George bretzlaff

5 out of 5 stars A Walk Down Memory Lane, A Reminder of Better Times.......2006-02-28

Many people may not recognize the name, but Starland Vocal Band's Bill & Taffy Danoff are the couple who wrote John Denver's "Country Roads". Bill also wrote several other memorable songs for John Denver and co-wrote "Boulder To Birmingham" with Emmylou Harris. Far from a one-hit-wonder or flash-in-the-pan, members of the Starland Vocal Band are still making great music.

Back in the day (long before boy bands took on harmonies)SVB was (and still is) some fo the sweetest, tightest harmonies recorded. The rich depth of some of the songs (Fallin' In a Deep Hole) is offset by fun up-tempo tunes, to keep things from getting too serious.

It's impossible to pick out any one talent as being over and above the others. Equally capable and inextricably blended, the talents came together to record a total of 5 albums (according to research, though I only recall the first 3) under John Denver's "Windsong Records." They remain friends, and Jon Caroll produced Bill Danoff's latest album, his own recordings of songs that John Denver did during his career.

Recommendation? Ignore the ignorant negative reviews. For the price, this compilation is a steal! Those of you who listened to their other songs back when will find "St. Croix Silent Night" "Late Night Radio," "Rear View Mirror" and a long list of others to be a welcome walk down memory lane. If you haven't had the pleasure, you owe it to yourselves to give 'em an ear!

4 out of 5 stars Sky Rockets In Flight, Afternoon Delight.......2006-02-27

The Starland vocal band had a #1 single in 1976 with "Afternoon Delight", a classic slice of easy of the ear Middle Of the Road Country-Pop, that is worthy of the Carpenters and such. They also won 2 Grammy awards, were nominated one more time, scored their own TV show and continued making music until they disbanded in 1981.

This collection sums up their career nicely. To all those Starland Dissers, I disagree with you (and, going by the revivers here, and the fact this band has hundreds and hundreds of people buying their music every year, so do a lot of others -which doesn't suprise me and I think they are better than all those progressive rock bands of the '70s and '80s, who are the real crap in the music world).

As a historical footnote, Skylark is notable for being the first recorded work of David Foster, who would go on to write and produce Grammy-winning hits for such artists as Whitney Houston and Celine Dion. But at the time of its 1972 release, Foster was simply the driving force behind this overlooked, soul-pop combo. Skylark managed just one U.S. hit, the gorgeous, melancholy title track of this collection, but songs like "Writing's on the Wall" and "Suites for My Lady" have the same sultry late-night vibe. Highly recommended for Foster completists, but also for fans of acts such as Hall & Oates or Chicago. --David Sprague

5 out of 5 stars So Much Talent, But So little Commercial Sucess!.......2007-02-06

When you look back at this album, little did we know in the spring of 1973, ( when "WILDFLOWER" was breaking into the BILLBOARD TOP 10), that this group had one of the most dominant musicians and record producers of the 1980's!!
David Foster went on to be an amazing studio musician and record producer. He produced records for CHICAGO, (He ressurected their career!) Barbara Streisand, Lionel Richie, and a number of other top acts of the 80's. David also was in a few other bands such as AIRPLAY (1980), and the Attitudes (1977). His credentials are legendary! It basically started with the group SKYLARK. However, the short-lived group out of Canada had several other fantastic artists aboard.

One of the lead singers, Donny Gerrard, had one of the greatest soulful voices of the 70's. Listening to him on their big hit "WILDFLOWER" can bring a tear to your eye. It's a shame that he didn't go on to great things. ( He did release a solo album around early 1976 on Greedy Records.) I also think he did a few TV and radio jingles.
Was that him on the MONRO Muffler Commercial back in the late 70'S? "Monro, Monro, we fix your car all under."

Yet another amazing voice in the band was B.J. Cook and later B.J.Cook Foster. (I'm assuming she and David were married for awhile.) B.J. had a voice that was so emotional and chilling at times. "I'll Have to Go Away" which was the follow up hit to "Wildflower" is probably in the TOP 10 most beautiful songs ever! I know that is just one person's opinion, but the musicianship and emotion that runs through this 5 minute ballad is off the charts!!! Unfortunately, this song never made the Billboard chart. I believe it was a BUBBLING Under hit in 1973. Maybe because the 45 version is so hacked up.

Finally, the drummer, Duris Maxwell is a much better than average trap-man. He puts down some nice fills in "What Would I Do Without You".
Overall, this is one of the best albums of the early 70's. So much talent and a unique mix of soul and pop.
The lead singer of the O'Jays said on their live album that the group sounded like a white group trying to sound black, or maybe a blackgroup trying to sound white. I think it was a stab at SKYLARK, but in the song "WIldflower", he made somewhat of a valid point. Unfortunately, SKYLARK only released one more album in 1974. The title is so original- "SKYLARK 2". The sound quality is muffled and they even throw on the hit "WILDFLOWER" as a draw or as to fill up space. The complete first album is on this Collectables CD, and they added "If That's the Way That You Want It" and "Virgin Green" from SKYLARK 2. "Virgin Green" was originally called "Foster Frees" on the record album. This song is an instrumental that really shows off that keyboard talents of David Foster.
On a final note, if you can ever find SKYLARK 2, buy it. It's never been released on CD but it has a lot of great songs. It's too bad Collectables didn't do a two-fer on this CD. With "Wildflower" being repeated on both records, there would have been plenty of room to combine both on one CD. "Skylark 2" has a really FAR-OUT cover which Collectables could have used instead of the generic one. Overall, I heavily recommend this CD.

5 out of 5 stars Suites for my lady.......2006-12-26

I have owned multiple copies of this album since it first came out, and was always disappointed that a follow up album by this group was never released. Although wildflower is a wonderful song and was the song that got the most airplay when the LP was first released, it has always been the instrumental "Suites for my lady" and the vocal "I'll have to go away" that immediately follows it that have been my favorites. The combination of the two pieces is enough to bring a tear to the sternest of individual. The vocals are clean and clear, and at the same time haunting. I have been looking for a CD of this album for many years, as my old LPs have become scratchy from overuse over the years, and I am so happy to finally find it on Amazon.

5 out of 5 stars I was surprised.......2006-12-15

at how good this CD sounded. It is easy to listen to........

4 out of 5 stars Wildflower is a GREAT Song..........2006-03-17

Wildflower is reason alone to get this CD...the soul-rock groove and the melancholy lyrics are unforgettable. About the only other song I can think of off the top of my head that gets me like this is Into the Night, by Benny Mardones.

5 out of 5 stars Just One Small Error.......2004-12-15

Amazon's "review" says this was released in 1972. If so, even the single hit tune took time to find its legs as I remember it clearly in spring of 1973, along with Wings' "My Love". 1973 was a good year for music overall and there was no better song among the really good singles that year than "Wildflower". You would think that there would have been more from this group to hit the U.S. charts but I can't find one. Even so you can bet I'll always have a good copy ot "Wildflower" on hand. And, hey, check out the rest of the tunes on this package. Not bad.

5 out of 5 stars Yesterday's Gone Classics Collection by Chad & Jeremy.......2001-03-29

Oh my God! Talk about bringing back some really great OLD memories from my past. It's amazing to me that this music sounds better than it did in......1960!! "Summer Song", "Willow Weep for Me", "Yesterday's Gone", and "Dirty Old Town" are as good to listen to now as they were then. Takes me back to high school.......if only for a short while. It's a great place to visit now and then.

4 out of 5 stars The two hits, plus a few random tracks... .......2006-03-10

Has the classic "Workin' on a Groovy Thing" and that's enough for me...such a perfect song. The few other studio tracks are nothing special, with the exception of "Tell Him." All the other tunes are likely from the same period and typical for the era. Apparently Patti Drew never had a full LP, as they were known then. Although Patti is a relatively minor "star", who can quantify the amount of beauty she has brought to the world with her music?

5 out of 5 stars More 60's Soul.......2006-01-19

Thanks to Collectable Records for re-releasing Patti Drew's first Lp on CD, the classic 'Tell Him', Patti is another great soul singer of the 60's, this cd contains to two bonus tracks, an early version of 'Tell Him' and 'Workin' On A Groovy Thing' one of my all-time favorite songs! If you want to hear another great underrated soul singer get this cd!

I just know Johnny Adams is up in "Soul Heaven", along with his fellow peers: Frankie Lymon, Roy Hamilton, Donnie Elbert, Ronnie Dyson, Johnnie Taylor, Billy Preston. "Why Do Fools Fall In Love", "You'll Never Walk Alone", "Where Did Our Love Go", "One Man Band", "God Is Standing By", "That's The Way God Planned It". God has one fabulous band up in "Soul Heaven" !!

5 out of 5 stars this is SOUL.......2005-09-30

Johnny Adams' early recordings are great, there is so much feeling and passion in this man's voice. And the greatest falsetto this side of Donnie Elbert! These recordings are timeless, what a great CD. No way you won't like this one. The best of New Orleans Crescent City Soul, and that's saying a lot.

5 out of 5 stars Tremendous.......2005-02-19

Voices like this don't come along very often. His falsetto is a freak of nature. My 12-year-old top-forty-listening son couldn't believe his ears when he heard Johnny's singing in the stratosphere on "I Won't Cry" (neither can I every time I hear it). The music is that beautiful country/soul mix that was so popular in the late sixties/early seventies among soul singers. This is an absolutely essential cd for your soul collection.

5 out of 5 stars Better Than Morphine.......2002-08-20

The first time you hear Johnny shift into that crazy falsetto of his, ye shall die and go to heaven. These songs are better than a steady drip of morphine in the vein. The photo on the cover alone is probably better than most of the music you own, but believe me, it goes deeper...so much deeper than just that glorious cover. Did I mention that Johnny rocks a serious country feel on a lotta these tracks? Lord, my wee brain is starting to tingle just thinking about it. Come on now, buy this.

2 out of 5 stars Songs are Missing.......2005-11-10

I'm kind of disappointed here; there is one of my favorites of hers that is missing here. Instead we get what, a bunch of covers? Including For the Good Times, I want to hear Ray Price singing that song, nobody sings it like him, and it's a classic not to be tampered with. Meanwhile the Lynn Anderson songs I want are missing. I guess I'll have to content myself with the copy I have on Beta.

5 out of 5 stars Great value compilation.......2003-11-19

This album is great value for money, combining Lynn Anderson's albums Rose Garden and You're My Man in one. It is mainly a collection of country and pop classics from the late 1960s and early 1970s but Anderson's interpretations never fail to please.

Backed by a lush, string-driven country pop sound, she delivers memorable and engaging covers of hits like For The Good Times, I Don't Want To Play House, Snowbird and It's Only Make Believe. I also love her version of Dawn's huge 1971 hit Knock Three Times and Flying Machine, Cliff Richard's not so huge hit from the same year.

She even makes Three Dog Night's Joy To The World her own, although I don't think she succeeds so well on Sunday Morning Coming Down. Somehow I just can't see Lynn stumbling down the stairs with a hangover on a Sunday morning!

Other very listenable numbers include You're My Man, I Can Spot A Cheater, Cry, Cry Again, the gospel song Put Your Hand In The Hand and Help Me Make It Through The Night. She has a full and warm country voice and the backing is beautiful in that early 1970s way. I love this album as it really evokes the innocent spirit of the seventies.

5 out of 5 stars Two classic albums from one of country's finest singers.......2003-03-30

There was a time when Lynn was one of the most important ladies in country music, though that is not reflected in CD releases. I bought nearly all her albums on vinyl, but very few have ever been released on CD. This twofer contains the two most obvious.

Both albums contain plenty of covers. Indeed, Rose garden was itself a cover. It was written by Joe South and originally appeared on the same album of his that included Games people play (which has also been covered by Lynn, but her version has never appeared on CD). Lynn had a major international hit with it, going high in the pop charts in Britain, America and many other countries.

Among the songs covered by Lynn on the Rose Garden album are For the good times (Kris Kristofferson), Another lonely night (Jean Shepherd), I don?t want to play house (Tammy Wynette), Snowbird (Anne Murray), Sunday morning coming down (Kris Kristofferson) and It?s only make believe (Conway Twitty). The original songs include two co-written by her then-husband (Your sweet love lifted me, I wish I was a little boy again) and Nothing between us, a song Lynn wrote herself.

The second album is You?re my man. The title track, one of four songs that Glenn Sutton wrote or co-wrote, was a huge country hit. Most, if not all, of the other songs are covers, including Knock three times (Tony Orlando and Dawn), Proud Mary (Creedence Clearwater Revival), Help me make it through the night (Kris Kristofferson), Put your hand in the hand (first recorded by Anne Murray) and Joy to the world (Three dog night).

On this edition, four bonus tracks are added. These are some of her other hits from her peak years.

These are not my absolute favorite Lynn Anderson albums, but they are excellent and they are the only ones from her peak years so far released on CD, except for a Christmas album that was made available for a short time and is now a collector?s item. Buy this now to encourage record companies to release more of Lynn?s music on CD.

4 out of 5 stars Country, rock, standards: what's not to enjoy?.......2003-03-15

Songbird Lynn Anderson likely gained her widest recognition with her 1970 crossover mega-smash "Rose Garden." From there and in only a relatively few years, Ms. Anderson carved her own niche in music annals with an array of signature songs, "Rose Garden" notwithstanding. But who can't help but feel the rushing tide of emotion in her powerful and soulful version of "Cry" and an equally powerful "How Can I Unlove You?" You don't have to be an Anderson fan to savor this 26-track CD that boasts the best (so far) of vintage Lynn, some surprising hidden gems like Kris Kristofferson's "Sunday Morning Coming Down" and a few standards. For the dedicated Anderson fan, this compilation is perhaps her best (again, so far) and no Anderson musical library is complete without it. Even if you're not an Anderson fan, you'll probably get so wrapped up in the lady's vocal charms that you won't notice the hours of enjoyment going by. To all who haven't heard from the lady lately, it'd be inaccurate to dub this CD "the best of." Incredibly, she's still giving her best!

5 out of 5 stars Back when the voice is what counted most!.......2001-07-16

Back in the early '70s, I had the Rose Garden LP and nearly wore it out. I really enjoyed the soaring vocals and strings that were seamlessly melded together. Her style was indeed unique during this period. I had a Panasonic 4-channel system(the one with the joystick balance control for the four speakers), and while browsing in the record section found a 4-channel release of the Rose Garden LP. It, along with the rest of my record collection, was unfortunately stolen during a military transfer and I haven't been able to find another copy. My favorites on this album are 'Rocky Top', 'Nothing Between Us' and 'Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down'. The latter one, written by Kris Kristofferson, was made popular by Johnny Cash, but Lynn puts so much more of herself into this one. It was orchestrated with a choir that, in surround sound, comes up all around the room and raises goosebumps on the first-time listener. This would be an excellent candidate to be remastered in DTS. For classic country/pop crossover, this album is a must.

5 out of 5 stars They sound...Just Like The Delfonics.......2004-02-03

Having worked personally with the guys in the 70's on the east coast in a showcase as an opening act for them I can tell you they "Black Ivory can really Jam". Their choreography is as tight as their sound. They gave my group and band stiff competition. "Don't Turn Around, You and I" are the main hits. They even did a powerful live rendition of The Delfonics hit " For The Love That I give To You". If you decide to buy this music....you'll also open the doors to your mind.

3 out of 5 stars Major Omissions.......2003-02-21

No Black Ivory album is worth the title of 'classic' with out including 'Spinning Around'.

4 out of 5 stars WHERE????????.......2002-12-27

What ever happened to these guys. And then it seems to be the only thing in print by them. They had great harmony and wonderful music arrangements. This CD is great, and it would have gotten 5 stars from me, if we were not cheated out on the "You and I" song. This was one of their stand-out songs with the original version stretching out a little over 7 minutes long, with an opus-like ending full of strings and stacks of harmony, almost chaotic, but wonderful. No this karaoke throw-back version that is heard here.

4 out of 5 stars Not All Original But Good.......2002-10-08

This album will have you wanting to go back to that time in your life when everything was simple.Basement parties with the black light. With the acception of "You and I" which is not the original, but still enjoyable to listen to, this is a good album to take you back down memory lane and have you wanting more.A blend of harmonies and melodies that you won't hear in todays music.Enjoy the music.
