this group can't be beat in Contemporary Christian music. Love what they have put together here.
Wonderful music!.......2006-11-11
I am a fairly new fan of Selah. Knowing this was a much older cd of theirs, I was skeptical. I loved it. It has the same great harmonies and powerhouse ballads that I love them for! The music is inspirational and uplifting...a great choice for any Selah fan, or even just a lover of quality gospel music!

A Chorus Line may be better known, but Dreamgirls was a towering achievement for director Michael Bennett. Loosely based on the Supremes' story, the 1982 musical told a typical show-biz tale of fame, backbiting, and survival. As is often the case for one-night only events, the cast in this concert version (recorded in New York on September 24, 2001) is led by an eye-popping assortment of Broadway powerhouses: Lillias White (The Life), Audra McDonald (Ragtime, Marie Christine), and Heather Headley (Ragtime). McDonald reveals a previously undisclosed comic streak, while Headley confirms her status as a rising star. Reprising the role of Effie Melody White (created by Jennifer Holliday), White belts the classic "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going." But the beauty of Dreamgirls is that it's so packed with catchy, Motown-influenced R&B numbers that each lead can sink her teeth into some prime material and get a turn in the spotlight. This double-CD set really makes you wish you'd been there when the show was recorded: you can hear the crowd going berserk at times, and the temptation is strong to do the same thing in the comfort of your living room. --Elisabeth Vincentelli
Customer Reviews:
Dreamgirls 2001.......2007-06-27
This was the worst reproduction of Dreamgirls that I ever heard. I was so disappointed the CD went into the garbage. This is one CD that I would not sell to the public because I expect so much and get so little.
Not the real "DREAM" experience.......2007-04-04
Forget about the film sountrack. Get this CD set. And it's far better than the original cast recording which goes lacking. More songs and more everything that makes a live performance just what it is. Live (compared to film where anything can be done to enhance a performance!) -- the energy, the excitement and the performances make this a rare treat for anyone wanting to share in the real DREAM experience.
Isn't a full Broadway revival long over due. But wait: I've heard rumors that a rvial may be "in the works. I certainly hope so. Maybe this time it will receive the Tony award it deserved in the first place.
Absolutely brilliant!.......2007-01-28
There is atleast 5 new songs on this album that were not in the movie! These girls kill it I mean they are just amazing singers, and this all live! This is needed for any Dreamgirls fanatic like me! You are gonna love it! Enjoy! love live laugh :)
Amazing!!!!!!.......2006-12-04
As a theatre lover, this recording is amazing. I actually prefer this recording to the OBC. Sheryl Lee Ralph is okay, but can't touch Audra's Deena. The first time I heard Ms. White's "And I Am Telling You..", goosbumps all over my body. The only weak cast member in my opinon is Heather Headly. Vocally, she just isn't there. Too much Aida, not enough Dreamgirls. But all in all, a great live recording of a great show.
One Night Only .......2006-07-19
I was lucky enough to attend this One Night Only concert performance of Dreamgirls and it was a night I will never forget!! The cast was brilliant and the cd is as good if not better than the Broadway cast recording because it is the entire show not just the songs. Bravo to everyone involved !!!

June Carter's Press On Album.......2007-01-10
I am a great fan of John and June Cash. Love this album of hers and wish she had been able to record earlier in her life. However, she put first things first with her family and I can even feel the love between her and her daughter Rosie and fellow recorders, especially, Marty Stuart. Her voice has changed but so have we all as we age/mature! Love the East of Jordan song she duets with John and the Gatsby song. Her sense of humor is immense and I believe that and her faith is what sustained their family all these years. God Bless June Carter Cash.
5 stars, now and forver!!!: June Carter Cash.......2006-08-29
I don't really listen to this album, since mine is signed, but the one time I listened to it and downloaded the songs onto my iPod, I was in love. June has again down over the maximum. A 5 star singer, Press On is her second to last album.
There are some really great songs that I really like on this album. One of my very favorites is the gospel classic "Meeting in the Air." It's fantastic and it gets me dancing every time. I even played it for my friend Madison Aumiller one time, and she started dancing as well! What can I say, if you listen to this song, you better find some dancin' medicin', cause this song is contagious!!
Another great song is the classic Carter Family Hit,"Can the Circle be Unbroken." June sings it beautifully and it sounds great.
Another classic is "Diamonds in the Rough." June recorded this song with Earl Scruggs, an old friend. It's a really good song that's perfect for just settling down in your cozy house on a warm winter night.
Don't forget the song "Tiffany Anastacia Lowe." You can tell June is havin' a grand ole time singin' this song fellers, 'cause she's laughin' right in the middle of it! It makes me laugh and smile to see the joy she haves recording.
There are also the songs I used to be somebody, and wings of Angels. These are very good songs too, and they really touch your heart when you need it.
Now that you know more about the CD, you should buy one, because the pictures in the pocket are great, the music is great,a nd the singing is great. And if you like this one, check out my other eviews for Keep on the Sunny Side: Her Life in music, Wildwood Flower, and Lousiana Hayride. You might like those albums as well. I sure do!! What can I say June Carter Cash is a ***** singer!!
June
definitely an acquired taste, but beautiful .......2005-12-05
I was never an admirer of June Carter (or the Carter family for that matter) but with maturity I have come to appreciate the beauty in her singing. Her voice is certainly not pretty, but the emotion expressed in it is so moving. The version on this album of The Far Side Banks of Jordan, sung with her late husband Johnny Cash, is THE definitive version of this song. I have loved the song since the first time I heard it, and several versions are great. This one, though, with their aging voices (and the love still shining through) is incredibly beautiful. Knowing that Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash had one of the world's true great love stories and knowing that he followed her to heaven after four short months, make this version unbeatable. I never hear it without being moved to tears!
Simply good music.......2005-07-08
This is simply good music. All the songs are stand outs. The production is plain, simple and stripped down. The effect is rich and really make this cd shine. The pickers are well known and include June Carter Cash ,Norman Blake, Marty Stuart, Rodeny Crowell and others. June plays autoharp though out. She wrote many of the tracks and talks a bit about each one before they start.
She never lost it.If you are a long time fan or a new one, this cd will not disappoint you.
June's voice shines through out the cd. Her chilling verison of her self penned "Ring Of Fire" is one of the many highlights.
The gospel song
"The Far Side Banks Of Jordan" is very touching as it talks about one spouse waiting in heaven for the other one to arrive so they can see paradise. You can picture them together again by the time this song is over.
Other gems on this cd are "Gatsby's Restaurant" a song about scareing the mob. "I use to be somebody" is about looking and finding fame,"Tall Lover Man" a song that brings the old saying "Hell have no Fury like a woman scorned" to it's true meaning.
The close out song is the A.P. Carter classic "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" With only June and Marty Stuart on the acoustic guitar. The song is delivered with a head on emotion.
June emerges a bit from the shadows of her legend.......2005-06-07
It's tough enough when you're the daughter of "Mother" Maybelle Carter, head of the Carter Family..one of country music's founding institutions. It just gets harder when your husband Johnny has cut his own larger than life presence in Nashville. Add health problems to the mix and disinterest from a "Music City" only caring about gals with glitz rather than substance and it's a wonder this album even was made. The fact that it's this good is a tribute to the talent June was.
On first listen to this, I didn't really like it: I was wrong. June isn't a fabulous vocalist here..her voice is certainly showing the ravages of age. Hers, however, is a voice of character and her songwriting remains sharp. Though with the presence of some fine sidemen (Marty Stuart, Norman Blake, Rodney Crowell, and hubby Johnny), the focus is on June here.
HIGHLIGHTS:
While I miss the mariachi horns, the spare treatment June gives to "Ring of Fire" (you did know SHE wrote that one, right?) is refreshing. The tone is more melancholy and mournful as opposed to the peppy zest of Johnny's rendition. The gospel duet with Johnny of "Far Side Banks of Jordan" is positively spooky as they trade guesses as to who'll "cross over" first and promise to wait for the other. By May of the year this was released they'd have the answer: June would go first...Johnny would die just four months later almost to the day. "Gatsby's Restaurant" is a humorous broadside against city slickers. ("You can't ride a big white horse into the front of Gatsby's door..") "L&N Don't Stop Anymore" rides on a clicking rhythm (unidentified..maybe drummer Rick Lonow clicking his sticks together?) that's more spirited than Johnny's own version of the Tom T. Hall tune. (Johnny's version was found on SILVER, ASIN B00006GO97) "I Used to be Somebody" is a country "Glory Days" that's wonderfully self-deprecating. The Carter Family recorded many mountain murder ballads and here June adds one of her own in "Tall Lover Man". I may be in the minority but the backhanded tribute to filmmaker Quentin Tarantino in "Tiffany Anastasia Lowe" was another memorable moment on the disc for me. "Meeting in the Air" is a delirious country gospel shuffle.
LOWS:
Of the gospel numbers here, "Wings of Angels" is probably the weakest of the 4.
BOTTOM LINE:
With apologies to Joni Mitchell, you don't know you've got 'til it's gone. Thankfully, June's music presses on...
4 1/2 stars

Customer Reviews:
absolutely outstanding.......2006-08-03
If you enjoy pomp and circumstance type music, you must have this CD.
Disappointing.......2006-05-08
I agree with Mr Hazelwood. This recording is lack luster and I usually like Michael Murray's recording. Too much brass and no organ. I agree that Columbia (Sony) should re-release the E. Power Biggs Music or Organ Brass and Percussion. That is the best recording and the correct mixture of instrments I have heard in a long time. I recently sent them (Columbia) an e-mail making that request. Maybe if they get enough e-mails, they would know that we demand the best of the best.
Where's the Organ?.......2006-02-19
What a big disappointment! How can so many exciting pieces of music be made to sound so dull? Someone should take a torch to Mr. Murray's organ bench; pehaps then there would be some fire to his performance. The Richard Strauss processional has been a longtime favorite of mine, but this lackluster pressing is beyong decent! Please, Columbia, re-release the E. Power Biggs recording of many of the same selections ruinrd on yhis CD!
Would Definitely Recommend!!.......2005-09-30
I enjoy all types of music. I think that this CD would appeal to anyone, not just classical fans. The musical selections are high energy and powerful.
Simply Superb!.......2005-07-13
It's hard to fathom the restraint of some of the prior reviewers' praise of this CD. As you would expect from any Telarc "fully digital" recording, the overall sonic impact is gratifyingly dynamic, and the performances are impeccable. Moreover, many supremely masterful composers are included-several of whom you might otherwise never encounter. At this price, buying this highly enjoyable CD is a no-brainer.

Fast and furious!.......2004-06-24
Lee Press-On and the Nails do have a humor, much more than The New Morty Show. The album is recorded live! Tom Beyer (stand-up bass) played on Mortified album of New Morty Show. It contains mostly well known covers (like Sing, Sing, Sing, Caldonia, Pennies From Heaven, ...) but very fast versions that goes even faster, and three originals (Big Pants Dance, Deal Me In, Mississippi Darling). It includes not mentioned bonus track Jumpin'Jive.
Manic Swing from Hell.......2003-08-06
This album totally bowled me over. It is high-energy, blistering swing and it hits you right from the first note. Even folks who might not be predisposed to big-band or the swing revival of the 90s ought to give this a listen because it brings almost a punk rock mania to big-band classics, rock-and-roll songs you never thought would be covered in a big-band context, and some cool originals.
Highly recommend this CD. It always engenders a response when I throw it on the stereo.
SWING OR DIE, BABY!!!.......2001-06-03
This album seriously kicks!!! I think that Swing is Dead has some cooler songs, but I really like the whole live recording thing. Makes me feel like I'm there. LPN FOREVER BABY!
As entertaining as Hannibal Lecter at a dinner party!.......2001-03-31
'Swing is Dead' is definitely better. That said, this CD is a lot of fun. I got 'Swing is Dead' first, and had the benefit of several months playing it almost constantly to prepare me for this one. Unfortunately, I chose to play it for the first time at work. I'm fairly sure my boss now thinks I'm insane, due to the periodic hysterical giggling emanating from my cubicle as I listened. If you already like LPN, get this CD. They produce classic LPN style along with hilarious commentary, and all while (I suspect) half the band is completely hammered. If you're new to LPN, get 'Swing is Dead' first. You'll be better able to appreciate this one afterwards.
what is this?.......2000-04-04
Do not buy this C.D! I am a swing fanatic, I read about the group in a book. Lee seemed very knowledgable about swing, and also seemed like he would put out a good C.D. When I purchased it I had very high hopes. After about the fifth song I had to take it out. The vocals are terrible, his voice is nassaly and is modeled after bad punk bands. I went back and re-read the interview and found out that infact some of his influences were bad punk bands such as "Gwar." The band modelled thier music after punk so much that it sounded like a punk band with a couple of horns. I know that sounds like a ska band but its not. This band destroyed classic songs like"Powerhouse," and "Sing,Sing,Sing," and "I'm beginning to see the light." The only good thing about the band is that Lee is very, very, very fashionable. Better luck next time,
Felix O'Connor.

Album Description
For their latest and greatest CD release, San Francisco's multiple award-winning LEE PRESS-ON AND THE NAILS are tackling the latin genre... with a twist! This may not be the latin you're used to... this is Hollywood Latin, the kind of music that puts you in the mind of Los Angeles in the 50s. Of course, LPN's trademark Big Band sound is here too, along with new originals and some stuff that's just downright silly.
Customer Reviews:
Brilliant.......2005-04-25
I recently discoverd this band and after I heard "God's Gift", I just had to buy the album. It did not dissapoint. This is my favorite LPN album. Other standouts include "Pico and Sepulveda", "Pink Elephants on Parade" and "It Had Better Be Tonight"
Screamin' fun swing!.......2004-10-28
Found this band and this CD by purest chance, looking for versions of the song "Hot for Teacher", which they cover elsewhere. Listening to the samples, I had to buy it; listening to the whole CD, I had to recommend it. This band has a smart, stylish approach, spiked with a wicked sense of humor. Leslie Presley is sexy in vocals like "It Had Better Be Tonight" (Henry Mancini would salivate), and their cover of "Pink Elephants on Parade" had me rolling on the floor. Their original tracks are fine, too ... though "God's Gift" did seem a bit more like the ordinary run of swing than the rest of the tunes. Still in all, a great selection, and you can bet I will be acquiring the rest of their discography. LPN Swings!
The world's weirdest swing band goes Latin -- sorta.......2004-01-29
Lee Press-On and the Nails is a swing band that actually takes an intelligent approach to modern swing: they interpret swing as the punk music of its day (1930s), and present it that way. They play like and out of control circus train loaded with boxes of corpses. If Tim Burton ran a swing band, it would be like this!
LPN is best live (they're almost a comedy act, and Leslie looks sooooo delicious in those red dresses of hers), but make great albums too. The focus of this album is on their Latin tunes, so there is less of their characteristic hard-swing, so I like it a bit less than their last two albums. Nonetheless, it's still great. Listening to it is a party in itself.
The best tracks are the first and last: "Pico and Sepulveda" is a energetic swing-polka on the names of Los Angeles Streets. It gets the album off to a awesome start. "Mexican Radio" takes the Wall of Voodoo song (and its screamingly funny lyrics) and swings the hell out of it. I love listening to them play these two pieces live, and having them on disc is a real pleasure.
Other great works: a Latin version of the swing classic "Begin the Beguine" (recording technology turns the band into a real sixteen-piece big band on this one!). "(You've Got a Shaolin Kung-Fu Death Grip on My Soul" is the most danceable song, a sort of Stray-Cats like bit of rockabilly with hysterical lyrics. "Pink Elephants on Parade" ressurects a very un-PC Disney song. And Leslie croons sexily on "Coax Me a Little."
If you want some unique modern music, grab a copy. Also get "Playing Dirty," their live recording. (Hey, I was there!)
Watch out for Lee Press-On, he is the future leader of your planet!
Drop everything and GET THIS CD!.......2003-10-09
Not much is known about the great Lee Presson-
However, his music seems to seek you out like a thief in the night. He and his beautiful wife, Leslie Presley, will woo you with their witty lyrics as well as wonderfully adapted classics. Be sure to check out their other albums as well: LPN Live at the HiBall Lounge: Jump Swing from Hell, Swing is Dead, Hiball Lounge Sessions Vol. 1, and Playing Dirty: Live at the Derby- in addition to this one. Also checkout their website: www.leepresson.com. If you ever get a chance to see Lee Presson and the Nails perform, don't pass it up! The show will leave you in stitches!
Lee Press On is great!.......2003-09-19
This band is whole lot of fun. They are unique in all respects. The music is energetic, the lyrics interesting, the whole Lee Press on experience is quite stimulating. It is my desire to see this band perform live before I die. The other LPN CDs are great, too.

Actual Soundtrack is great!.......2004-02-26
I think the previous reviewer got hold of the 20 minute cd of the score that was sent to academy members for consideration of an oscar - not the complete soundtrack with tracks as listed here.
disappointed.......2004-01-09
I loved the music in the movie...the soundtrack did not include all the upbeat music, just 20 minutes of the dreamy tune of the funeral/tai chi scenes. Very disappointing!

Customer Reviews:
This cd wasn't the best of lee press on nails.......2003-01-27
Being a fan of lee press on nails,
I must admit this wasn't one of their better album. The first album was excellent i did enjoy how it was about the swing music, and kept the music a live and moving. I felt this album was dull and made me want to turn it off after i got to the second song. Because i felt the musical element of the band wasn't there, this more an expermintal art piece than a real album. I yet to buy their new album because i am afraid of what it would sound like. Hopefully better than this album.
this is lame.......2002-08-19
This is lame. What the heck is this. Look at his lame style. .... Trying to start a new trend. This is not music this is garbage. Trust me I know music. Swing is beauty and tough and positive. ... This Lee press on nails is a waste of time. So all you true swing cats stay away from this....
Now here are some Nails that should never be clipped..........2001-07-19
This CD is one of my favorites out of my whole collection(and coming from an avid lover of heavy metal, that's seriously saying something!). This was the first LPN CD that I ever bought(don't ask how I came across it) and I can't get enough. That's why I bought all 3, and they're all great too! Whether you're a goth punk looking for something new to do, other than slit your wrists, or an old time swinger that remembers 'the good old days', this CD is for you! Remember, the 4th LPN CD is being recordered in August(I think this is the right month), and it is entitled, 'El Bando En Fuego'. According to the band's alto sax player, Mark Donnelly(he told me this at a show I was at), it's a latin album with entirly new material. Sounds good to me! Oh, and I highly suggest seeing these guys live in concert, they put on a Hell of a show! Just go to www.leepresson.com to see show dates. And once again(just as I mentioned on my post for the 'Playing Dirty' album), if anyone from the band is looking at this, please contact the Gaslighter Music Hall in Gilroy, Ca(it's a little south of San Jose) and see if you could get a show. I know the kind of people that hang there, and it would be one ripp'n gig!
Uneven.......2001-06-10
"A camel is a horse designed by a comittee." That is an apt description of this, Lee Presson and the Nails's second CD. It seems to be pulled in two different directions. On the one hand, you've got Lee Presson's great original songs like "Hat Back Boogie" and "That only Happens in the Movies," which is reminiscent of Indigo Swing. But the original songs that Lee didn't write just don't seem to fit. Leslie Presley sounds beautiful as always, and she does her best with Larry Sweeny's "He's still a Mystery to Me" and "Shadowman" but they still sound like they were written for another band. Ironic, since the songs that WERE written for other bands, like Elvis Costello's "Wave a White Flag" and the Stones' "Jumping Jack Flash" (!!) are the high points here. I guess they were pressured to have more original songs but face it boys, it's better to have a good cover song than a bad original song. This CD has both.
I think their latest CD, "El Bando En Fuego!" is their best.
Great Swing.......2000-07-18
I first heard LPN at a concert and they were GREAT. Their music is upbeat, and catchy. Its variety in tempo is wonderful to listen to, as well as its stunning vocals (by Mrs. Presley.) The band is very out-there, and marvelous to listen to!
