Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Second half a pleasure!.......2007-07-16

The first half of the album is from the early years, more old country western which I did not care for. From song #11 through the end was when Eddy Arnold was transitioning over to a more modern style. So in brief, I skip thru the first 10 songs to get to what I enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars Don't miss this treasure!.......2007-06-12

This CD has moved up to my "Favorites" pile. The clear, sweet voice of Eddy Arnold is so refreshing. Eddy Arnold has a wide vocal range, and wait till you hear "Cattle Call"! No screaching or yelling. All of the music on this one brings such pleasure. It is hard to find real talent these days, but you won't be sorry with this one. It is a true treasure. Each song tells a story, and brings back memories of my own life's experiences. Get this one, and take a walk down your own memory lane. A fine collection of wonderful music. Guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

5 out of 5 stars "Ulitmate" is right on!.......2007-06-08

Great collection, the ultimate in every way. Eddy Arnold just as you remember him. The recording is superb. I bought a similar compilation on another label a few years back and the quality was very poor. This is just fine.

5 out of 5 stars If you're only buying one, buy this one...........2007-02-21

Amazing I'm the first reviewer... Given what's currently on the market, this wonderful CD is the best single (emphasis on single) CD on the market. Given 20 tracks - and that's generous for RCA - it'd be hard to choose any better. This is a very balanced look at his career from 1947 (his first #1 hit) to 1967 (his next-to-last #1). Plus, these are the original versions of Eddy's biggest hits - he recorded some of them three or four times.

The thing is, Eddy Arnold is country music's #1 all-time artist, charting 145 Billboard country singles, including 28 #1 hits. Wow! It's time for RCA to put out a boxed set, and it's unbelievable they haven't already done so.

The Bear Family box ('Tennessee Plowboy') is great (and expensive), and the Proper box ('Eddy's Song') is great (and cheap), but both cover only the early years. Those songs were spectacular, twangy country records, but most fans also want Eddy's smooth countrypolitan music of the late 50's and 60's. So, until RCA uncorks that boxed set, 'The Ultimate' is your best bet.
