Im sorry James after being a hugh fan from Rick Nelson days I found this album a disappointment not only was the recording a little flat in its overall sound but the playing very un uninspireing, almost like James was not playing from the heart a bit like when some musio,s back artist,s reading charts that they are not familiar with it also has that 70,s plastickey sound ,,so sorry James not your best.

James Burton is a great guitar player. When he is playing behind someone else. This album is just just too cheesy. A waste of money.

James Burton is one of the most important Country/rock guitarist. This collection falls short of his work with Ricky Nelson and Elvis.
As the consumate sideman, he's unapproachable. This is not his best work, but it is a must for serious fans.

Production simply short-changed Burton.......2004-03-06

This CD is a must for the diehard collector, given that it is
a singular effort, but falls far short of demonstrating the
skills of the talented Burton. Once can't help but believe that it was hastily produced in someone's spare time with little regard for quality and marketability. If you really want an appreciation for Burton's guitar mastership, just listen to various Elvis and/or Rick Nelson songs where Burton plays lead
guitar with skill and panache. This CD is quite disappointing in comparison.

I was pleasantly surprised to see this gem come out on CD, and could not order it quickly enough. Most people know James' resume, having played guitar for so many great artists, especially Elvis. But he is a great artist in his own right. He is a pleasure to watch live, continually proving that you don't need to jump up and down and smash your guitar to get attention. James Burton epitomizes the word "cool."

This CD has twelve tracks, many of which are instantly-recognizable classics ("Hound Dog," "Mystery Train," "Suzie Q" and "Johnny B. Goode"), but there are tracks on this disc which James wrote himself, "Rock and Raunch" and "Long Reach," which, not surprisingly, play to James' strengths as a picker. The two songs are the first tracks I listened to upon getting the CD.

The third song I tracked was "Polk Salad Annie," which is cut one on the CD, and a longtime favorite of mine from the Elvis years. James has always plowed straight through the song, and this version is no exception. The rest of the disc combines lots of different styles and genres. They all fit nicely into the James Burton guitar.
