Product Description:
It is mighty, mighty hard to believe that such a monumental figure in country music as Stonewall Jackson doesnt have a bona fide collection of his hits currently available. But then, nothing ever came easy for Stonewall; his dad died before he was born, he ran away from home when he was 14, and finally made it to Music City in 1956 at age 24, just as the Nashville Sound was taking hold with its strings and choruses. Which, of course, was 100% opposite from the kind of hardcore, honky tonk country that Stonewall played, but he stuck to his guns, and had a bunch of hits nonetheless, which is a real testament to how good this guy was. Youll find the top two dozen here, together with a revealing essay by Colin Escott containing quotes from the man himself. A proud Collectors Choice Music exclusive!

Customer Reviews:
Great!.......2006-10-03
I bought this CD based on two songs on a Columbia collection. I am so glad I did. This is one of the greatest honky tonk CDs there is. Stonewall Jackson is easily one of the greatest country singers of all time, yet he seems to have been forgotten. What a voice and what great songs. These songs are amazing. I can't recommend this CD enough. Fantastic!
classic country music at it's best.......2006-02-13
This cd is the best collection of songs from Stonewall Jackson that I have found. It comes with historical information about the artist and his music. It even shows the date that each song was recorded and what position the song reached on the charts. This cd is a must have for classic country music fans. Stonewall Jackson was overlooked and underrated in my opinion. In my opinion, he should be rated as one of the great legends of country music. This cd definately gets a 5 star rating from me.
Love it.......2005-09-01
If you like Country Music (real country music), this album is a "must-have". Noone sang a song like Stonewall; and it's doubtful anyone ever will. Not a bad song on the CD, but a few more songs would always be appreciated. It's sad that this artist isn't more appreciated today, and as with many great pioneers and stylists of Country Music, he's overlooked. If you like Stonewall, I suggest you also check out Mel Street, who seemed to be greatly influenced by Jackson and often imitated his singing approach. In any case, you owe it to yourself to purchase this one.
Great Stonewall Jackson CD.......2005-08-10
This is by far one of the most complete cd's covering this great country artist.I only had a few regrets that a couple songs were not on but all of his hits are there and in excellent sound quality.
Thoroughly enjoyable compilation from Collectors' Choice.......2004-07-26
Check out the alternative and you are sure to agree that the best value for your money is this 24 song collection from Collectors' Choice. Here you will find just about everything you would want from one of the most beloved figures in country music history. Stonewall Jackson was a major player during the heyday of country music. You will find all of Stonewall Jacksons biggest hits here including the 1959 classic "Waterloo" as well as "B.J. the D.J." "A Wound That Time Can't Erase" and "Stamp Out Loneliness". You will also discover a number of other gems that may not have been quite as successful on the charts but are every bit as good. Of these I particularly enjoyed "Mary Don't You Weep", an adaptation of an ancient black spiritual, "One Look At Heaven" and one of his last charted singles "Torn From The Pages Of Life" from the summer of 1972. Also included are familiar tunes like "I Washed My Hands In Muddy Water" and of course Jacksons last big chart hit "Me and You and A Dog Named Boo". Stonewall was more or less forced to record that song and despite its success it proved to be the beginning of the end of his long time association with Columbia Records.
Though it has been more than 30 years since Stonewall Jackson had a hit single, he continues to make live appearances today. In addition, he has been a member of the Grand Ole Opry since 1956. This collection is a "must" for serious collectors of country music. It is miles ahead of Columbia's "American Originals" offering. The remastering job is superb and the two pages of included liner notes are OK but nothing special. Recommended.

availability.......2003-06-22
I didn't buy any of these albums yet but with the reviews I may not. However, I like the prices very much but there are so few songs on them. Re:Harry King from Springfield, Missouri United States - I purchased a Stonewall Jackson CD The Best of Stonewall Jackson. It's a collectors choice and it is great. Has 24 songs of which Old Showboat is on it. ... I didn't think bad with that many hits. They sound original to me. ...
Disappointed.......2003-03-18
I'm a Stonewall Jackson fan, but can't find his true blue music anywhere. Why doesn't someone release some of his ole originals. Old Showboat is greatly missed.
Goofed Again.......2002-05-23
This CD had no sound samples so I ordered it hoping it was the original recordings. It isnt. The "Classic Country" CD has the original recordings but was not avialable so I gambled on this one. So why not just order the other available CD's? THese two have "BJ the DJ' on them and the others don't. Stonewall's later recordings of his hits don't sound that bad but "BJ the DJ" doesn't sound like the 1959 version. THis was my second go round as I ordered a cassette version of "20 Greatest Hits" last year and it was worse than this. So, if you want to hear Stonewall sing a wide selection of songs from his career at a modest price then this CD would do if you aren't looking for the original recordings.
