Product Description:
A palpable sense of the numinous Mystery of God permeates the Robbie Seay Band's Ten Thousand Charms. Intimate and broodingly transcendent, this project accomplishes a rare and welcome achievement: a true fusion of authentic worship of Christ with modern music forms. This is the future of modern worship. Most highly recommended.

Product Description

Sweet Seraphic Fire brings together two unique bodies of American sacred song: choral compositions from the New England singing-school tradition and the most popular Evangelical Protestant hymn texts in historic American use. In the late eighteenth century the New England singing-school movement produced America's first great sacred-music style, employing several genres of unaccompanied four-part choral compositions with the melody in the lead (tenor) part. The enormous popularity of singing-school music also promoted a canon of hymn texts shared across America's competing Evangelical Protestant denominations. This recording contains neglected masterworks from the New England singing school that also helped to create the American hymn canon. Marking a more recent turn in this process, we have also included some new settings of traditional Evangelical lyrics written by leaders in the revival of singing-school music that has blossomed in the Northeast since 1976. ! Selection of pieces for this recording was determined by correlating "The Norumbega Harmony"--our collection of one hundred six historic New England singing-school compositions and thirty contemporary works in traditional style--with a list of the three hundred most frequently printed hymn texts in America from 1737 to 1960. --Stephen Marini

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic!!!!!!.......2006-03-15

This is a REALLY cool album of shape-note singings, I particurlarly like EVERY STRING AWAKE and ANTHEM FOR EASTER.
Some of the songs are kind of dreary, (Hatfield) but all in all this is COOL!!!

5 out of 5 stars Incredible.......2005-06-14

What can you say about one of the most genuine and passionate praise albums ever, other than you would be greatly blessed by buying it? If you like Dave Crowder, Jeremy Camp, the Passion Albums, or just love to pop CDs in your player and worship God, do yourself a favor and get this! It is one of my all time favorites as I have been consistantly listening to it over the past three years. [...]

5 out of 5 stars Just can't get enough.......2005-06-10

Y'know I just can't remember where I heard about RSB. But I've been lugging this disc around with me everywhere. I just can't listen to it enough. Robs got a sort of raspy-ish quality to his voice. One GREAT thing about this music is is it's NOT hokey or corny.. These guys are just worshiping their Lord. Telling it like they're feelin it.. Not poppin not rockin but kind of in a world all their own. Unfortunately there aren't clips here to listen to. BUT go to Indepentent bands.com or Grassrootsmusic.com and you can catch clips there.....

4 out of 5 stars True.......2004-07-16

I saw the Robbie Seay Band open for Shane & Shane last year and wasn't immediately impressed, but I eventually looked them up online, sampled this CD and bought it right away. Couldn't quite say what group RSB is similar to--and that's probably a good thing. The lyrics are simple and honest, and Robbie demonstrates his ability to arrange great songs. Definitely buy it--find Ten Thousand Charms (and other CDs by Robbie) at independentbands.com or grassrootsmusic.com. This is a sincere praise offering that I'm sure is a sweet-smelling savor to our Lord.

5 out of 5 stars Buy this CD!.......2004-06-12

This album brings out the heart for God that Robbie Seay has. His vocals are amazing and this album is musically sound. I highly reccomend this CD!

5 out of 5 stars just buy it.......2004-04-18

In an era awash with sentimental fluff and predictable siliness this is hands down one of the best worship albums ever. Seay finally shows the world what it means to blend the tradition of musical worship with modern riffs and meaningful lyrics. Seeing as it's currently out of print good luck on finding it.
