About the Artist
Storyhill was an acoustic modern folk duo composed of singer-songwriters Chris Cunningham and Johnny Hermanson. They began playing together in junior high, and released their first CD while they were in college in 1991. Over their 6-year professional career, they independently released a total of nine albums, which have sold, to date, roughly 35,000 pieces total. They were known as Chris & Johnny for several years, until they changed their name to Storyhill in 1996. They played roughly 100 shows a year for several years, mostly at colleges and coffeehouses around the Midwest and Pacific Northwest. Intricate and intertwining vocal harmonies and acoustic guitar parts defined the Storyhill sound.

Band members: Chris Cunningham - vocals, guitar, harmonica
Johnny Hermanson - vocals, guitar, harmonica

Product Description:
Echoes is Storyhill's final release. It is a live recording of their final show together as a duo, which took place in June 1997 in their hometown of Bozeman, Montana, and contains many of their "greatest hits." Of all their albums, it is probably the best introduction for the new fan. Tracks 8 - 15 on Disc 2 are "bonus tracks" - live recordings from their final tour, but before the final show, on which they perform with guest musicians, or do unusual arrangements of their songs.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars An outstanding duo - one of my favorites!.......2003-07-02

Storyhill/Chris & Johnny are two of the most gifted musicians I've ever had the pleasure to hear. I was introduced to their music in the early spring of 2003, and just happened to get tickets to a concert a few weeks later. The concert was an absolutely magical evening - great music, and a wonderful vibe in the air between Storyhill and their audience.

ECHOES is a great album. At the time it was recorded, it was to be Chris & Johnny's final concert before they amicably went their separate ways. What a way to go out! From the first song to the last, you can feel the energy and connection between the two artists and their audience. Notable tracks include the driving opener "Inside Emotion"; the heartfelt "Great Divide"; "Satisfied Land"; the heart-wrenching lyrics of "Boulder River"; the sweet love story of "If I Could"; the hard drive and fantastic guitar work on "Tremblin' Tracks"; and the grandeur of "Steady On" (can two guys singing and playing guitar really sound that BIG?).

If you are a fan of John Denver, Neil Young, Peter, Paul, & Mary, Simon & Garfunkel, or the Indigo Girls, you should love Storyhill - their sound seems influenced by all these artists. Midwesterners should also enjoy the music because it speaks of places that should be familiar to anyone growing up between the Great Divide and the Mississippi. Please give these guys a chance - they are worth your time!

5 out of 5 stars Quite easily the best album I have.......2001-05-29

Storyhill, formerly known as "Chris and Johnny," can be reflected by the duo's origin. Unlike today's music of commercialized garbage, Storyhill originates from the innocence and simplicity of Bozeman, Montana. From harmonious acoustic guitars to passionate, placid lyrics, Storyhill remains a superb model of what all singers and songwriters should strive to emulate. Indeed, the band peacefully broke up after the release of this album, but they both continue to perform today. Chris Cunningham has gone on to create spectacular music with Sixth Sense and himself and Johnny Hermanson has found success in Alva Star, his new band. I strongly recommned Storyhill to anyone who seeks guidance, peace, and melody in life. Quite candorly, if you don't like Storyhill, you might not truly be human. If you find that you like what you hear, give it a chance and continue your Chris and Johnny adventure by looking up Storyhill under peppermintcds.com. Some say that the military is a transition in a lifetime or a graduation or a new job--convert your life by baptizing yourself in the melodic waters of quite possibly the greatest lesser-known band of our time!

5 out of 5 stars A Must Have.......2001-02-09

Quite easily one of the best CD's I own. This two CD set illustrates their musical abilities and their passion for what they sing about. The John Denver influence is abound and I find myself singing out loud on every track. The simple harmony's and dueling guitars are addictive - I'm ordering another copy of this CD because I simply played it too much. You won't regret this purchase!

5 out of 5 stars Okay, I'm a little biased, but i'll review anyway.......2000-12-22

Yeah, I was at this concert. C&J toured at my school (Luther) all four years that I was there, but I didn't discover them till the end of my senior year ... about 3 months before they broke up. I really couldn't believe what I had been missing. The songs that these guys write (I admit I'm more of a Chris fan than a Johnny fan based on their post-Storyhill output) are amazing. You can tell some of them were written early on and are a little cheesy (Jackrabbit, Whipoorwill) ... but so many of their songs are so touching ... If you can listen to "Boulder River" without crying .. you're a better man than I ... "Let it all go" gives such a great philosophy on not dwelling on the past ... Gah ... You have to try them out. I would suggest "Miles and Means" as one of their better early albums. Also try out some of Chris' subsequent solo stuff under the Peppermint label ... with a band called "Sixth Sense" or on his own (Chris Cunningham)

5 out of 5 stars A breath of fresh air.......2000-08-25

Storyhill's music has come to mean a lot to me. Echoes was my first taste of their music and I was blown away. I am a fan of progressive metal and some other really heavy stuff, but yet for some reason Storyhill is still among my favorite bands. I love their music. Echoes really captures their vibe and it's a great live performance. I recommend it to anyone who is fed up with the sorry state of the music industry and anyone who isn't. This album will blow you away.
