I saw the fabulous band in concert about a year ago in New York and was quite impressed. They convey such soul and depth yet are wild and outrageous. It comes through in their music and I believe Carnival is a testiment to their extraordinary style. They are refreshing and powerful. Good music! Hope to see more!

Another smashing success from BETTY.......2000-03-12

I cannot tell you how happy I was to see that BETTY was releasing another cd so soon after "betty3." I was in heaven when I finally got to word, rock and roll, eerie atmospheric fun house tunes, humor, gravity...you name it, it's there. Now, if only I could get them down here to New Orleans to perform!

This is one of several excellent McTell albums produced in the 70s, and it still stands up well. The material here is uniformly very good (though perhaps nothing *really* stands out), including the McTell classics 'Naomi,' 'Tequila Sunset,' 'Slow Burning Companion,' and the sublime 'From Clare to Here.' He also does a very good cover of John Martyn's well-known 'May You Never.' This is nice, gentle stuff with period small-folk-combo backing, with the overall presentation verging in places on a Nashville sound.
