About the Artist
TOM WILSON

Tom Wilson is a three-time Juno Award winner and has toured the world with his band Junkhouse, and presently the Canadian Roots Supergroup, Blackie and the Rodeo Kings.

Planet Love, the debut release from Tom Wilson, spawned the hit single Dig It which appeared in a handful of movies and T.V. shows Stateside. His songs have been recorded by artists including Colin James, Mavis Staples, Murray McLauchlan, and Billy Ray Cyrus to name a few.

Along with his friends, Stephen Fearing , Colin Linden, Blackie and the Rodeo Kings have picked up fans as diverse as Merle Haggard, The Cash Family, Joel and Ethan Coen, and U.S. President George W. Bush. He continues to write and perform solo all over North America.

BOB LANOIS

Bob Lanois is an interpretive artist both visually and musically. With his brother Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno, Bob hosted the birth of what the world would come to know as ambient music.

"Ambient Music was born in Hamilton, Canada," Bob proudly answers.

Bob also produced and engineered the first punk album in his mother’s basement. Simply Saucer’s only recording is recognized around the world as a groundbreaking musical statement. Bob also produced one of the first singer songwriters to come out of Canada when he stepped behind the recording console to record Willie P. Bennett’s Blackie and the Rodeo Kings.

Product Description:
The Shack Recording, a CD that is about the working magical relationship between Tom Wilson and Bob Lanois is the most natural artistic treatment of original songs to be heard in a long time.

The Album was made in Bob Lanois’ shack on a piece of land outside Hamilton, Ontario. The duo used ancient recording gear (owned by Bob and Daniel Lanois) which lent itself to the pure performance captured on two inch tape.

The 15 recording sessions took place over a year and a half which gave the material a chance to breathe rather then be choked. The result is a True Roots Field recoding.

Tom Wilson and Bob Lanois produce a beautiful campfire feel to their live performances with Tom on guitar and vocals and Bob on harmonica and percussion.

The Shack Recordings,Tom Wilson & Bob Lanois,Shack Recordings,Folk,Tom Wilson and Bob Lanois come together to create the cosmic campfire. This album is made of wood and earth. Recorded out at Bob's shack in the woods.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars John McCormack - Rare Recordings 1904-1942.......2003-02-15

This CD was most welcome to my collection. I have a fair number of McCormack originals, mostly from 1910 - 1927. It is especially interesting to be able to hear the extremes, beginning and end. McCormack was probably THE singer of his age in that he sang well, everything from Sonny Boy to Il Mio Tesoro. One critic wrote that he never stooped to material that was beneath him, but raised it to his level. It was interesting to me that he did not spring from his singing master's loin, fully developed, but spent seven years as a professional singer developing his skills. We see his promising beginning with the 1904 sessions. If I have a complaint about the set, it is with these transfers. Paul Wolf, in his John McCormack Home Page, discusses the debate between playing the G.T.&T. records at 72 or 76.6 rpm. I would guess that this set uses the slower speed. If this is so, Mr. Worth is indeed right. They sound too slow, almost to the point of slurred speach. Unfortunately, these are the only first recordings which I have been able to find on the market. The rest of the collection is fine and includes many rarities, including unissued test pressings from McCormack's personal collection. As he aged, his voice diminished while his skill as a singer increased. Even at the end of his career, he did not make a bad record. Despite my complaint, I would not deny myself this album, nor should anyone who wants to hear the beginning and conclusion of an incredible career.

    Album Description

Urban Tongues is filled with Urban Hip-hop soul laced with relevent and laid back lyrical flow.

The Urban Tongues CD is about the average, hard working, inner city man and woman. It's about urban love and frustration. It's about the soul food joints and the African shops. It's also about the Muslim brothers who sell bean pies on the street and church goers who fill up the church on Sunday morning, some after partying all week. It's about the world inside and outside the hood. We're all not wanna be gangsters, drug dealers and homicidal parasites. There is so much to our culture, history and who we are and we want to express these things in our music. Amidst all the crap we face, we still smile and laugh hardily in the ghetto too. We don't knock what others are doing; we're simply giving our version of the story.

Urban Tongues CD is about having a good time and dealing with the stresses of life of urban life as well. We want get paid and live the good life in our lyrics, but it's not our primary focus.
