This song says it all..musically and lyrically..one of their best yet.
They deserve to sing this song loud and proud, and they do!
Brava..I hope they continue to make great music, AND stand up for what they believe. They are strong amazing women, and our country is lucky to have women like this!

1 out of 5 stars ...where is the rest of the music?.......2007-06-09

ditto to the rest of the reviews.... I would have even loved getting some old cuts on this CD to keep the 2 on there company... but I kept trying to find out where the rest of the music was and resolved that there were only two songs... sorry Chicks... love your music and your statement, but give me a break.... I hope the money goes to a good cause... like free speech... that would be nice.

THIS SHOULD PROBABLY GO TO CUSTOMER SERVICE, BUT YOUR RETURN POLICY SAYS
YOU CAN'T RETURN OPENED CDs so if I can't return it, perhaps others can
learn from this what can happen when you order online. I thought I was getting the whole CD and when I opened it and put it on, it turned out to have the song Not Ready to Make Nice, one other song and then some video of Not Ready to Make Nice. I checked with a friend who has the album and she said there should be lots of other songs on it. Can you send me the album I thought I was buying?

Album Description

Fully living up to the title of a popular instructional book he once wrote called "How To Make Your Guitar Talk," Nils was the smooth jazz story of 2005, breaking through to audiences across the country with the energetic title track from his Baja/TSR debut Pacific Coast Highway. Hitting #1 on the Radio & Records airplay chart, "Pacific Coast Highway" became the soundtrack of the summer, staying at #1 for seven weeks on its way to being named the most played song in the format in the U.S. and Canada for the year. The guitarist's follow-up single "Summer Nights" remained in the Top 5 for six months on the same chart and became his 2nd #1 hit.

Inspired by this success, Nils enters 2007 Ready To Play once again with an exciting new collection that keeps his crisp and edgy electric guitar front and center while expanding his pop, jazz and R&B driven musical palette even further. Confirming his desire to get back out on the road and perform at prominent jazz festivals this summer after playing over 30 concerts last year (including the Lexus Jazz Festival in Newport Beach and the Catalina Island Jazz Trax Festival), his perfect choice for the album's first radio single is the instantly infectious, funky and percussive "Ready To Play." Other key tracks are the optimistic, sensual midtempo number "Just Smile," the dreamy and ambient, wordless vocal tinged "Catnap" (which taps into Nils' fascination with electronic music), the old school soul-inflected funk of "Sunrise On Sunset" and the brash and bouncy, hard grooving "Hi Five."

"The most important thing I learned from the success of PCH," he says, "was that everyone likes a good groove and you've got to make them move. And of course, there's no substitute for a good song with a great melody. That's what I always strive for. If I come up with a strong hook and it starts getting to me, I know I'm on the right track. The most important thing was to make sure Ready To Play featured my best writing and playing from start to finish. I love the fact that it incorporates all of my favorite styles. One of the main reasons I got into jazz was because I loved playing jazz guitar. My pop sensibilities are there in the songwriting, and my R&B background is the force behind all the grooves. All of those elements play a part in making this even a better album than Pacific Coast Highway."

In addition to displaying his powerful and lyrical songwriting and versatility as a guitarist, Nils--who recorded the basic tracks for the album in his fully equipped home studio, located in a very secluded area of Los Angeles--wanted Ready To Play to capture the ensemble energy of his live performances. The 12-track-collection features all of the members of his current touring band: bassist Alex Al, keyboardist Leon Bisquera, drummer Donnell Spencer, Jr., synth player and singer Clydene Jackson and percussionist Oliver Brown. Jackson and Brown are also part of the jazz vocal trio Gravity, whose debut album Nils recently produced.

Other featured first-call sidemen on Ready To Play include bassists Roberto Vally, Dwayne "Smitty" Smith and Reggie McBride and keyboardist Larry Dunn. Some of the colorful background vocals on Nils' sparkling, jazz/gospel-flavored twist on "My Girl" are provided by Carmen Twillie, who sang lead vocals on the classic "Circle of Life" in the film The Lion King.

Born and raised in Munich Germany, Nils picked up his first guitar as teenager. While his first inclinations were to follow the lead of his idols Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin, it wasn't until he was introduced to funk music that he was hooked; he spent "endless nights" learning and copying rhythm players like Nile Rogers, Al McKay and Paul Jackson, Jr. "But growing up in Germany," he says, "the chances to become a full time musician were rather slim, unless you wanted to play Top 40 or polkas. The schooling options were either a strictly classical Conservatory or a small private music school."

Moving to L.A. in the mid-80s, he began studying composition, arrangement and film composition. While making inroads into the competitive field of film and television, he got his first job as a teacher at the legendary Valley Arts Music Store; no matter how busy he's become over the years as the various facets of his career--sideman, film composer and now solo artist--have taken off, Nils still loves to give back by teaching young guitarists. While acquiring his current production skills as a studio engineer in the 90s, he started doing sessions as a rhythm guitarist for everyone from Rick Braun to The Temptations and George Benson. Nils contributed as a musician and co-writer of "Keep Rollin'" on Benson's 1998 album Standing Together, and the guitar and vocal legend returned the favor by playing a duet with Nils on Nils' 1998 debut CD Blue Planet; Blue Planet also featured performances by Gerald Albright, Nathan East and the late vocalist Carl Anderson.

Since producing music for the independent film "Beyond The Ring" and working as Music Editor on the Fox sitcom Undeclared, Nils has been Music Editor for the show Weeds for the past two years and has composed for the Independent Spirit Awards for the past three; he is currently scoring a documentary and composing and adding soundscapes for a multimedia DVD project entitled Transmuteo.

"As much as I've loved creating music in the studio all these years, I realized when I started to play concerts and festivals last year that I'd been missing the ying to my yang, so to speak," he says. "It's been a wonderfully validating experience. I've enjoyed the travel and the opportunity to play for so many people who enjoy what I do. That's the reason I started making music in the first place, to communicate, and it's been so enjoyable to bring my music to a wider audience. I'm looking forward to getting out there again, and, like the title of the album says, I'm seriously Ready To Play."

5 out of 5 stars There's no "Sophomore Slump" here...it's a fine follow-up to PCH.......2007-07-01

I like Nils for a few reasons. First, he's got a little grit in his melodies, a little toughness, a little bit of bittersweet. In this area I'd compare him...favorably...to Larry Carlton. In many ways, this could be a tougher Fourplay album...think "Blues Force" from "Yes Please" as opposed to some of the "Quiet Storm Pillow Talk" stuff they also serve up. Listen to "Just Smile"...how could anyone possibly listen to that track without thinking "Fourplay?"

Second, he uses real musicians, and especially a real DRUMMER. I'm sure there are programmed drum tracks somewhere in the mix on "Ready To Play," but they don't REPLACE the drummer. That's my biggest complaint against Chuck Loeb, and the reason why I never listen to his music.

Finally, he's a guitar player. That's why I buy his CDs. I play guitar, I like the sound of the guitar, and when I buy a CD featuring a prominent guitarist I want to hear virtuoso guitar as the featured instrument, not endless honking and bleating sax solos (Russ Freeman, are you getting any of this?)...

Nils is by no means a "trailblazer"...too many influences worn on his sleeve for that to happen. But the influences are all solid ones and, two albums into the journey, he's slowly becoming his own man. He's the one to watch, folks...

5 out of 5 stars Ready to Play~ Nils.......2007-05-28

This CD has to be the best Nils has produced. I have two other disc by him. I also had the pleasure of seeing him live at the Seabreeze Jazz Fest in Destin,FL last April. He has moved to the number one Jazz guitarist on my list. Play on Nils.....You da' man!

5 out of 5 stars Quite an Achievement!.......2007-03-15

This effort from Nils is quite an achievement in my opionion. It has an extremely pleasant smooth jazz sound and empitomizes the sound of this genre of music. The compositions here are original and represent one of the few CDs that you can just let play. Many of the compositions remind one of that "Weather Channel" sound which is not all bad because the "Weather Channel" plays good smooth jazz intrumentals. The sound from this CD sounds straight out of southern Cal(ifornia) and the compositions put one in a good mood. Additionally, it has a great recording. To me, this is the best overall new smooth jazz CD I've heard to date in the year 2007.

4 out of 5 stars Nils has done it again.......2007-03-05

His follow up CD to Pacific Coast highway is outstanding. Defitnitely a must for any smooth jazzer who likes the strings.

4 out of 5 stars Fresh, pure, smooth........2007-03-04

An easing arrangement of jazzy instruments makes up "Ready to Play", by Nils.
The title track is a modulating blend of Nils' guitar work, drum play from Ricky Lawson, and bass play fro Alex Ai, Reggie McBride and Roberto Vally, for a catchy tune.
"Just Smile" prompts listeners to do just that with its Fender Rhodes work from Leon Bisquera.
Percussion work from Oliver C. Brown is also present which adds to the subdued vibe that this song will bring listeners.
"Catnap" might make you take a little respite because the sounds and rhythm of the song are just so relaxing. It has bass work from Ai, McBride and Vally, scintillating keyboard work from Han Zermuehlen and Bisquera along with synthesizer work from Clydene Jackson.
"Midnight Breeze" is a calm song that one can picture listening to while reclining on a porch as the wind blows by. This effect is achieved through the keyboard work of Zermuehlen and Bisquera, percussion work from Brown and drum work from Lawson.
All in all, "Ready to Play", by Nils, is a gentle album that will put you in an entrancing mood.

5 out of 5 stars The album that defined an era.......2007-07-10

The Notorious B.I.G.'s 1994 debut arrived at a turning point for hip hop music. As the old school style from the east coast was slowly growing stale, a new funkier and angrier approach was steadily growing in the form of gangsta rap from the west coast. Then, of course, came "Ready to Die," one of the finest hip hop albums of all time, and one that bridged the gap between the old and new schools. This is the album that introduced the world to the incredible rapper and incredible character that was Christopher Wallace. A young, overweight Brooklyn native, a father, and a former hustler, Biggie impressed listeners not only with his talent but his personality on the mic. Technically, he is not short of amazing. His ingenious punchlines, late-night stories, threats, and jokes are delivered in his raspy, cheeky voice with precise technique, always on time and in a perfect flow. Lyrically, he covers many topics but the quality is ever so consistent. On one song, he'll be telling a story of crime, on the next song he'll be poking fun at a ghetto loser, or seducing a woman, nostalgically reminiscing over the past, or dramatically philosophizing about the meaning of life and death. His verses are all meticulously written and never lose your attention. Another reason "Ready to Die" is so great is the production. The young Sean Combs anchors a production team that uses extensive, clever sampling to create a unique musical backdrop for Biggie. The album is well divided between radio friendly singles and harder, darker songs that would be too rough for radio. The hardcore tracks inspired an entire generation of grimy New York rappers that would reign towards the late 1990s, but the influence of the popular singles could also be felt on urban radio for years to come. "Ready to Die" is an absolutely classic hip hop album and one of the finest ever, a must have for any collection.

The album begins with a dramatic intro, which gives way to "Things Done Changed," a well-produced and ironic look back at Biggie's humble roots. "Gimme the Loot" is one of the songs that shows his lyrical genius, where he plays multiple characters in a conversation, creating a classic track. "Machine Gun Funk" is an upbeat, funky cut sampling a song by Lords of the Underground for the hook. On the excellent "Warning," Biggie again plays multiple characters during conversation, before dropping philosophy on backstabbers and issuing threats. The title track follows accordingly, as does the original mix of "One More Chance," a song to a woman about their relationship (the more popular remix is not included on the tracklist). Perhaps my favorite song is the Method Man collaboration "The What," a song where the two depressed MCs drop some dark knowledge and philosophy over a great beat. It doesn't get much better than having two of New York's finest rappers over a solid 1994-styled beat. "Juicy" is an absolute classic, an emotional and effective rags-to-riches look at his upbringing, effectively sampling an 80s R&B hit by Mtume. Another of my favorites is the hopeful "Everyday Struggle," which is blessed with the nicest beat on the album, a sunny, clever production over which Biggie recounts the troubles of trying to get by. "Me & My B..." is a humorous and enjoyable tune, followed by the unforgettable hit "Big Poppa." This song has a perfect, Isley Brothers-sampling beat, a head-nodding funker, and shows the humorously seductive BIG at his finest. The well done "Respect" and catchy "Friend of Mine" are worthy deep-album cuts, and the DJ Premier-produced "Unbelievable" has an unforgettable chorus and production. The album closes with one of his most stunning works, "Suicidal Thoughts," a depressing insight of life from a suicidal person.

Overall, "Ready to Die" is inspiring, beautiful, and immensely entertaining. This album doesn't sound like it has aged a bit, and even thirteen yeras later sounds as fresh and incredible as the day it dropped. Listeners of any age should be able to appreciate this masterpiece, it's so consistent that there's not one piece of skip material over seventeen tracks. Unarguably one of the finest hip hop albums ever, I cannot recommend it any higher.

Today, the black covered "Remaster" is the only version in print as far as I know, because last year some lawsuits emergedo over sampling issues. The remaster includes two bonus tracks, "Who Shot Ya?" and "Just Playing," both worthy additions to the tracklist. Also, the DVD is a welcome bonus, with videos and live performances. It's a pretty nice package for a good price.

5 out of 5 stars Biggie's Best!.......2007-04-09

Although Life After Death was excellent, Ready to Die was a landmark album. It is cool to hear the angrier Biggie on some songs and an others the smooth, slick Biggie we all know. His flow is outstanding and his lyrics and content truly capture his life's story. It will always remain one of the top hip hop albums of all time.

5 out of 5 stars The Album That Set The Year '94 (Rating: 10 out of 10- -5 stars).......2006-12-14

Can anyone forget this album? This album (as well as Nas' "Illmatic" were the front runners of the year 1994. Christopher "Notorious B.I.G. (Biggie Smalls)" Wallace debuted with this album with the lead single "Juicy". A rags to riches song that still gets played here in 2006. Biggie's lyrical skills were excellent. I hear a lot of rappers (who I will be here all day naming) saying excellent lines that came from Biggie. I think to myself "Damn, this guy said everything".

The album is excellent too. A lot of these songs are about drugs, robbing, and what not. Big was just rhyming about things that he went through before he had a record deal, trying to survive and eat. Who could blame him? "Give Me The Loot" is one of those songs about his struggles (some words were edited in this song. I'm pretty sure rhyming about robbing a pregnant woman was going to gain some negative attention). "Machine Gun Funk" is self explanitory on how a good song it was. "Warning" was a short song and video about people targeting him for his money. "One More Chance" is a great song about how he gets his females. The song would be remixed and made into a video a year later, but both versions sound great.

Guest appearances are only one. Method Man, back when his rhyme skills were phenomonal, would rhyme on "The What". Classic track if you ask me.

Production was by Mr. Cee, Puff Daddy, and Easy Mo Bee. True, Puffy might be the "king of beat jacking" and what not, but he did a damn good job with them. The Isley Brothers "Between The Sheets" would be made into the classic single "Big Poppa" was one of them.

This album was pulled off the shelves earlier of this year, because of unauthorized sampling on this album. But recently I've seeing it back on shelves. I guess it got settled. I bought this back in 2003 when it had the origonal white album cover. If you purchased this in 2004, you get the album with a few extra tracks like the more popular "One More Chance (Remix)". And you get the DVD with all the videos that came from this album. This album had a heavy impact in 1994, is a classic and is a must have for any hip hop collection. Most of these songs are rehashed into choppy verses on his postmothous albums unfortunately. But this is where most of them origonally came from. Biggies legacy helped influenced a laundry list your favorite rappers today, who bite his style. That alone should explain how this impacted hip hop. Word.

Rest In Peace Biggie Smalls

There's no better example of American pop culture's hall-of-mirrors ethos than producer Alan Carr's relentlessly buoyant 1978 film adaptation of the stage musical Grease. Inspired by that decade's rampant 50's nostalgia, it now paradoxically evokes the campy 70's excesses that spawned it. That sense of recycled decades in collision is underscored repeatedly on this deluxe, double-disc Grease-fest, especially on the set's second disc of bonus materials that spans vintage singles of the title track (its instrumental B-side) and "Greased Lightnin'," some sing-along karaoke tracks, and a handful of alternately slick/techo-savvy remixes (originally produced for the film's 20th anniversary) that are testament to its enduring, era-defying appeal. The original soundtrack itself has been treated to a stellar digital remastering that fills disc one, and remains a joyous monument to camp, sheer ambition, and exuberant nostalgic illusions. Includes a slip-cased, double-fold-out case and new booklet with complete song lyrics. --Jerry McCulley

The complete Grease experience. This cd is a two disc-set with disc one being the complete soundtrack, while disc two is all bonus material including the popular Grease Megamix. Fans of the movie would want to make this cd an essential part of their music collection.

5 out of 5 stars Prepare to be transported to Summer Nights.......2006-03-26

Well here we are with a great piece of history.

This album has not only captured the spirit of the movie but the essence of a 1970's version of the 1950's. I have seen this play live and yes some things are different. Yet I grew up on the movie. I even find myself singing some of the songs now and then. Of course you will never see me singing "Look At Me, I'm Sandra Dee." However I do keep this in my car as great driving music. This album is not you can pick apart and say things like missing songs, in the wrong order etc. It sounds and feels just right. There will be many versions yet this one is the Grease - Deluxe Edition [ORIGINAL RECORDING REMASTERED] [SOUNDTRACK] gives you more information about each of the tracks allowing you to feel that you have inside information and to feel that you know more of what went into the making of each song.

5 out of 5 stars Great Soundtrack & Fun Extras from an Enduring Musical........2004-07-06

I'm enjoying listening to this great soundtrack that I loved as a child after a long hiatus. I had it on 8-track 25 years ago. So it's fitting that I should get the 25th Anniversary Edition on CD. The 24 songs from the movie are just as everyone remembers them, so I'll talk about the Bonus Disc, which contains 10 alternative versions of the songs plus 2 previously unreleased instrumentals from the film.

Track 1 on the Bonus Disc is an instrumental version of the film's theme, "Grease", written and produced by Barry Gibb. Frankie Valli's voice has been replaced by a saxophone. The chorus is vocal, but the voices are not those in the original song. You could use this as a sing-along version, as it would be easy to sing over the sax. Tracks 2-5 are officially sing-along versions. "Summer Nights" includes the chorus vocals from the film and sounds good. "You're the One That I Want" has new chorus vocals of questionable merit. "Sandy" is a new arrangement. It's not as good as the film version, but you can sing along. Track 6 is the single version of "Greased Lightning" that you may have heard on the radio back in the day. It's differs from the original in that the bad words have been replaced for radio airplay. Tracks 7-8 are previously unreleased instrumentals from the film. "Greased Up and Ready to Go" is lively. Tracks 9-10 are mixes that I occasionally hear on the radio. The "Grease Megamix" and the "Grease Dream Mix" are fun, if awkward. Tracks 11-12 are Martian Remixes of "Summer Nights" and "You're the One That I Want". They retain the original vocals, but set them to a Latin rhythm. They make pretty good dance tracks.

This 2-disc set isn't in a jewel case. The case is paperboard with 4 panels that fold out. This is inside of a clear vinyl slip case on which the tracks are written. This isn't convenient packaging. On the bright side, the case won't crack in the mail. Tucked inside one of the panels is a booklet that contains lyrics and credits.

The "Grease: 25th Anniversary Deluxe Edition" is a terrifically fun soundtrack to one of the all-time great movie musicals. And for all those preteen girls who go wild over the movie with each new generation, the bonus material is perfect for parties and horsing around.

3 out of 5 stars If You Love Grease, You'll Love This - Only 1 Major Flaw.......2004-05-15

Disc 1 is like the original album, which I also own. 1 major flaw is that "Love Is A Many Splendored Thing" cuts off at the very end of it! I was upset by this, hence the 3 stars instead of 4. Disc 2 is a lot of fun w/some remixes and sing-a-longs, all in all, I'm pretty happy with it being that I'm a HUGE Grease fan. If you like Grease, you'll love this, it's fun. Too bad when they "remastered" it, they didn't catch there 1 mistake. Oh well, at least I have it on another album.

Album Description

A STUNNING CD RELEASE BY KAREN MARIE GARRETT AND LEGENDARY PRODUCER WILL ACKERMAN, creator of Windham Hill Records, gold and platinum record producer, and Grammy Award-Winning recording artist.

Recorded between George Lucas' Skywalker Sound Studios in Marin County, California and Mr. Ackerman's Imaginary Road Studio in Windham County, Vermont.

VICTORY REVIEW; ACOUSTIC MUSIC RESOURCE OF THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST; TOM PETERSEN
"Karen Marie Garrett is a top-drawer pianist headed for bigger things. Allure of Sanctuary is the Olympia artist's third release, following a straight classical disc and another in this New Age vein. This new release is as soothing as it's intended, but it's also energizing. Where a lot of New Age is so light it begins to drift and grow unidentifiable, Garrett's compositions are distinct, with melodies for the listener to hook into. It's billed as New Age, but several cuts qualify as Light Jazz - very mellow Vince Guaraldi, perhaps. Thus, Garrett is a distinctive new artist in this field and could, with the right promotion, see herself at the top of the New Age charts (Allure is already getting significant airplay on Easy Listening stations). It won't hurt a bit that she is a pupil of the founder of the New Age genre, Will Ackerman; nor do dead-enders get invited to record their albums at Skywalker ranch, using Lucas's Bluthner grand! Get this album, neighbors - you can say you "knew her when."

Reaches #8 on Top 100 New Age Radio Charts in just FIVE weeks!

I received this as an Easter present and it is one of the best CD's I have heard in a long time. The music is wonderful.

5 out of 5 stars A Brilliant Piano Album (reviewed by Stephen Cairns at [...]).......2006-12-09

What an amazing album! This is Karen Marie Garrett's third album, and it is a real find. I am immensely impressed with the delightful melodies which run consistently throughout this album. Tip-Toe Dancer has to be heard to be believed. It is such a beautiful piece of music, and makes the listener want to stand up and start dancing. This track is just one of an album full of highlights. Welcome B and Simple Things are so delicate. This album is produced by Windham Hill founder Will Ackerman. Consequently, the production is first-class. A joy from beginning to end. Bravo!!

4 out of 5 stars Allure of Sanctuary.......2006-07-19

Soothing, relaxing music to release tension and smooth out those tight muscles.

5 out of 5 stars from Solo Piano Publications.......2005-11-14

"Allure of Sanctuary" is the second CD released by Karen Marie Garrett. It is astounding how much this artist has grown since her 2002 debut, "Pensare Piano." Will Ackerman's gifts as producer certainly helped to make this CD as breathtaking as it is, but if the quality of music isn't there, no producer in the world can give it soul and depth - and this CD has mega-doses of both. A classically-trained pianist from the age of five, Ms. Garrett plays with the strength and emotional clarity that come from years of expressing oneself at the piano, sharing the joys and sorrows of life with the beloved 88's. The twelve pieces include eight original compositions, a lovely arrangement of "The Green Hills" by Brian Gibson, and Erik Satie's "Trois Gnossiennes," performed as originally composed. Most of the pieces are piano solo, but Garrett is joined on two by award-winning cellist Eugene Friesen (I LOVE cello and piano together!). Some of the other tracks have English horn, light percussion, and wordless vocals, but this is truly an incredible piano album.

The CD begins with "Tip-Toe Dancer (Kathryn's Song)," one of the lighter pieces in this collection. It was inspired by a story told by a close friend about a childhood dance performed for friends and family. Graceful yet playful, it is easy to imagine the seriousness of the young dancer and the warm reception of the adults. "Lake EWOK Muse" is an improvisational duet for piano and cello that followed a sunrise meditation beside Lake EWOK at Skywalker Ranch, where the album was recorded. The feeling of serenity envelops you as you listen to the two artists interact seamlessly, creating a perfect sense of peace. "Simple Things" is a celebration that begins in a classical style reminiscent of a children's piano study and evolves, retaining the sweet melody and simplicity of the message but becoming a full and graceful solo. The title track is fascinating. It begins with a mournful piano prelude and becomes a rhythmic dance with a seductive Spanish flavor. Susan Whittle's vocals and percussion provided by Will Ackerman and Derrick Jordan add to the enchantment. "Will's Song" is an improvisational piece that is so deeply felt that it almost sends a chill - what a beauty! "Toll of War (Adagio)" is a wrenching duet for piano and cello. A profound statement of humanity rather than of politics, the sense of loss and pain reach to the depths of the soul. This is a piece that needs to be heard. The gentle, pensive closing track is a solo piano reprise of "Lake EWOK Muse."

"Allure of Sanctuary" is a must-have CD!

During the Reagan era of "all-for-me" economics, MCs like Big Daddy Kane and Kool G Rap painted pictures of silky rap gangsterism, inspired by movies like The Mack and Superfly. Out of the post-Reagan rubble came Notorious B.I.G.'s debut, the "Hustler" reality-trip Ready to Die (also the LP debut for beat-thief producer, Sean "Puffy" Combs). Biggie still rhymes about the gold, the Moet, and the ladies, but also reveals the casualties on the road from struggler to hustler to player. "Juicy" sets up Biggie's rags-to-riches story, but then the curtain gets pulled back, with unapologetic, hardcore tracks like "Gimme the Loot" and "Machine Gun Funk." It's a funky album (just try not throwing your hands in the air when you hear "Big Poppa"), and it's a powerful album--possibly even the Mayflower of 1990s East Coast "Hustler" rap. --Todd Levin

5 out of 5 stars The Most Influential Hip-Hop CD EVER.......2007-06-07

Funny how most of the "This album sucks"/"Biggie sucks, 2pac is way better" are from Kids Reviews. What a joke. You can't get more classic than this album. I did something that made me realize how priceless albums like "Ready To Die" and "Illmatic" are. I stopped listening to them for almost a year, listened to all the current (c)rap that is out now and then listened to these and other classic hip hop albums straight through again and again. All I could say is WOW. The difference in talent is unreal. It makes you TRULY miss artists like Big and Pac to the point where you actually get irritated by how wack so-called artists are now. Nothing but pop-rap and studio gangsters. How unfortunate.

5 out of 5 stars The best debut hip-hop album ever.......2007-05-05

Ready to Die has four songs put together in a row that can just make your jaw drop: "Juicy", "Everyday Struggle", "Me and My Bitch", and "Big Poppa". In the history of hip-hop, there are no four songs put together on one album that can equal this string of mastery. Biggie was the master of the hit rap song, as he demonstrates on "Juicy" and "Big Poppa". Biggie's clean version of "One More Chance" debuted at #5 when it was released, the highest-debuting single of all time (the album version is dirty, the radio version is romantic). But he cared about every song and that is what set him apart from his peers. Biggie's songs on Ready to Die were often snapshots; you can't help but get visions in your head while listening to "Gimme the Loot" or "Warning". This ability to conjure up graphic detail made Biggie a master storyteller. But he also had a sense of humor to offset his tough-to-swallow autobiographical sketches. "One More Chance" and "Friend of Mine" were hilarious takes on women that Biggie loved to take advantage of. Biggie would take more chances with diversity on Life After Death, but Ready to Die was his more personal and introspective album, thus making Ready to Die more satisfying and more essential. A top 5 hip-hop album. A

5 out of 5 stars The Album That Set The Year '94 (Rating: 10 out of 10- -5 stars).......2006-12-21

Cee, and Puff Daddy.

Word.

1.Intro- A look through Biggie's life.(4/5)
2.Things Done Changed- Big talks about how things have changed in the ghetto and every where else.(5/5)
3.Gimme The Loot- Biggie changes his voice on this song. He planning to steal money and he says how.(5/5)
4.Machine Gun Funk- This song is a G-Funk hiphop song, I heard the hook from another song.(5/5)
5.Warning- This is about somebody wanting to kill Big, and Pop from the Barbershop Warning him about it.(5/5)
6.Ready To Die-Good Song, good lines.(4/5)

8.#!*@ Me- Bigge having sex with Lil Kim.(1/5)

10.Juicy- A song of rags to riches, classic.(5/5)
11.EveryDay Struggles- The title tells what the song is basically about.(4/5)
12.Me & My B*tch- Talks about this woman and the times the shared together.(4/5)
13.Big Poppa- One of the best club songs that is still being played on radios and clubs.(5/5)
14.Respect-Big talks about his time from his young life up to this point.(4/5)
15.Friend of Mine- Good song, that's all u need 2 know.(4/5)
16.Unbelievable- Unbelievable lyrics are dropped on this song by the Notorious B.I.G.(5/5)
17.Suicidal Thoughts- Biggie talking to P.Diddy on the phone about why he's going to kill himself. Very creative song. (5/5)

This rapper never wrote down any of his rhymes. The man is the best lyrical rapper of all time, king of NY, and he never wrote any of that sh** down? That is crazy, if 2pac wasn't so deep and created so much power in his music 2pac would not be the best rapper of all time. As for Biggie he is a lot better lyrical rapper than 2pac ever was. Buy this classic ablum if you haven't already, the orignal ready to die not that remaster sh**. Peace
RIP Notorious BIG aka the king of NY of all time.

    Album Description

"Get Ready To Fly" is Big Beat's second volume of rarely-heard 1960s masters from the vaults of the legendary Norman Petty studios. This time the focus is on the mindbending rock and pop sounds the producer recorded during the late 1960s.

Petty was the first to admit he had little taste for psychedelia, but his exceptional abilities as an engineer allowed the producer to sonically indulge the young bands who visited the studios to the fullest. The results were some of the spaciest sounds to emanate from an American studio in that era, a fascinating potpourri of raging fuzztone, swirling organ and Anglophile harmonies.

Several of the items on "Get Ready To Fly" are acknowledged pop-psych classics, such as the Apple-Glass Cyndrum's `Someday', `To Give Your Lovin'' by the Happy Return and the Hooterville Trolley's `No Silver Bird', but extensive research into the Petty archives has resulted in a tremendous programme of obscure classics and never-before-heard gems. The artists represented journeyed from such disparate locales as Utah, Montana, Mississippi, Texas, Colorado, Missouri and Canada to record with Petty in Clovis, New Mexico.

With unprecedented access to the original master tapes, the sound quality on "Get Ready To Fly" is second to none, and the accompanying booklet is packed with information on this little-documented episode in Norman Petty's career, with the full participation of many of the former band members.

5 out of 5 stars The best hiphop album of all time.......2007-01-30

For many years i have changed my mind on what i thought was the best hiphop album of all time, but i think i have finally come to the conclusion that Biggie's Ready To Die takes the crown. Thats not to say that he's the best emcee ever (though hes certainly top 5 all time) but of all the hundreds of hiphop albums in my collection this is the 1 i listen to more than any other, still 12 years later i listen to it at least twice a week. There is simply not a skippable track on the entire album, every single track is great most being classics. When i think of other albums that I have considered the best of all time, Me Against The World, The Chronic, Illmatic etc.. they all have songs im tempted to skip in order to get to better ones. Thats not to say they have filler because i can listen to all of those albums right through however they have in my opinion noticeably weaker tracks. Ready To Die has none.

If you only own one hiphop album this should be it, it is far better than his other album Life After Death, which is quite simply bloated and one of the most over rated albums of all time and it has Puffy's influence all over it, thankfully this doesnt. It is really pointless making a list of my favourite songs as they are all superb, however i will give a quick mention to Gimme The Loot which is undoubtedly my favourite song of all time, the way Biggie raps back and forth as 2 characters is amazing, but Biggie is lyrically superb throughout and the beats are perfect, though Biggie could flow over anything, his flow is untouchable and almost certainly the best ever. This is a must buy for all fans of good music, if you dont own it buy it!!

    3 out of 5 stars Great album.......2006-03-12

Great album, Juicy is probably my favourite song on the album. I had to drop 1 or 2 stars because of Puff Daddy talking all over the records. I didn't notice it the first time I listened to it, but when I noticed Puff Daddy's annoying voice and echo effect, it just ruined the album for me.

5 out of 5 stars biggie at his best.......2006-02-01

One of the best rap albums of all time (in my humble opinion). Tupac def. deserves respect for thought-provoking lyrics, but Biggie will always be number one in my book because he has charisma in his raps and I think that counts for alot in the public eye.

If you like these, I would check out the new Duets album that provide more Biggie covers.. but naturally there is nothing like the real thing!

    5 out of 5 stars Biggie's pinnacle.......2006-01-23

Point blank, one of the best albums ever in all aspects and if it didn't get 5 mics Benzino was mad he can't make a better album.

1 out of 5 stars NO GOOD! KEEP AWAY!!!.......2003-12-23

Yeah, great songs on here. Only problem is that the members of republica didn't even know about it until AFTER it came out, so I won't be buying it. If you're interested in Saffron (the lead singer), check out S W A R M, her new project. Ciao.

5 out of 5 stars What happened?! I was "ready to go" for a 3rd album!.......2002-08-23

Republica's self-titled album (1996) is one of my favorite listens, every track flows together and connects styles, energy, and unique vocal flavor. I love Saffron and I enjoyed their follow-up "Speed Ballads." I'm only saddened that this Best-Of collection seems to imply that they won't be putting anything else out.

If you have the CD's, it's a waste of money. But if you don't, it's a cheap way to get lots of great electronica songs you'll get addicted to fast. I don't know what's going on with the band, but I'll cross my fingers anyway that maybe they will release something new at some point.

5 out of 5 stars Best of... ??.......2002-08-05

My best guess is that somebody needs some spending money, because they only have 2 CDs out to begin with (which are both excellent). There are only a few songs missing, if you have one of the CDs already, just buy the other one instead of wasting money on this.

Ini Kamoze's "Here Comes the Hotstepper" alone makes this OST to the Robert Altman film (renamed Ready To Wear for us hicks in the North American sticks) a monster prospect. Laden with dance, urban, and alternative gems, it will be boosted by entries from Supercat, Janet Jackson (the "Let's Get It On"-inspired 70's "Love Groove") and British sensations M People. Toss in new cuts from The Rolling Stones, Sam Phillips (a dizzy cover of "These Boots Are Made For Walking"), Deep Forest (on a Bulgarian tip), The New Power Generation and a revitalized Terence Trent D'Arby and presto vivacé--this will be flying off the rack. 4 out of 5 stars Soundtracks always seem to miss the mark somehow...........2007-06-30

And the missed mark on this one was the exclusion of "La Vie en Rose" by Grace Jones, the song that ran during the closing credits. I fail to see how the soundtrck producers ever thought to leave the song off as it capped off the movie so well and would have been a perfect closing song for the cd. Well I solved that problem by making my own cd and adding La Vie en Rose at the end, take that!!!

Overall this is a very good soundtrack and very much a diamond in the rough.

2 out of 5 stars OTHER THAN CECE PENISTON'S CONTRIBUTION..........2006-06-05

... with her David Morales remix of "Keep Givin' Me Your Love", a beat-heavy, pop-perfect confection that is criminally absent from her best-of compilations, everything else is forgettable tripe.

3 out of 5 stars Why do soundtracks leave out the best songs?.......2005-11-30

I am a huge fan of the film; came looking for the CD for the hot version of "La Vie en Rose" that runs over the closing credits... but alas!

    4 out of 5 stars A great soundtrack!!!.......2003-10-25

The movie wasn't so great, but what a soundtrack! Chock full of all genres: from the upbeat dance rhythms of "Here Comes the Hotstepper" by Ini Kamoze and "My Girl Josephine" by Supercat to smooth R&B tunes like "70's Love Groove" by Janet Jackson and "Close to You" by "Brand New Heavies," this album surpasses the film. Other great songs included are "Natural Thing" by M People and "Martha" by Deep Forest. And, the Rolling Stones even make an appearance. Only a few glitches (The New Power Generation and Sam Phillips), but you can overlook those. Definitely an album to add to your collection!

Best songs: "My Girl Josephine" by Supercat and "Close To You" by The Brand New Heavies.

4 out of 5 stars I liked the movie AND this soundtrack!.......2002-02-04

I love this soundtrack and I liked the movie. (I saw it in the theater which may have helped.)

This was my wife's most-played sountrack CD for years. My favorite cut is "These Boots Are Made For Walkin'" by Sam Phillips. Her cover is actually better than the original! We bought this CD when it was brand new and we still put it on for a spin fairly often. It has aged well.
