Over a recording career that spans three decades, Canada's Bruce Cockburn has established himself as a passionate social advocate, a deft guitarist, and an adventurous musical spirit. Though nobody would characterize him as a singles artist, this collection of tracks originally earmarked for (and often ignored by) radio presents his often earnest, occasionally elliptical song craft at its most accessible. Cockburn's rhythmic insistence and airy arrangements--punctuated by jazzy violin and saxophone--redeem "If I Had a Rocket Launcher" and "A Dream Like Mine" as more than sloganeering, though the stridency of "Call It Democracy" belabors the message at the expense of the music. Bookended by two new cuts, this anthology anticipates a reissue series of Cockburn's catalog through his new association with Rounder Records. --Don McLeese
Customer Reviews:
Very Best of Cockburn.......2007-02-22
I am just newly acquainted with the powerful lyrics, melodies, and beat of Bruce Cockburn. I now own 6 CD's, but this one, my first, is my favorite. All strong winning songs and 16 in total. I feel guilty enjoying his social commentary songs like "When A Tree Falls," as much as I do, for they relate to our failures in dealing with the environment and other peoples as things to abuse for our benefit. I guarantee you will not be sorry you bought this CD.
All the Good Stuff on One Disc.......2006-07-18
Anything Anytime Anywhere: Singles 1979-2002 puts some of the best Bruce Cockburn songs all in one place. From early favorites like "Wondering Where the Lions Are" to more recent gems like "Pacing the Cage" and "Last Night of the World," this album features a great mix of songs that are fairly well-known. The only song that I miss in this collection is "One of the Best Ones." Bruce's beautifully crafted lyrics and melodies make him an inspiration for burgeoning singer/songwriters like myself.
Bruce is amazing.......2006-05-21
This is a nice compilation of tunes, old and new. My Beat is great, and so is Tokyo. They are all terrific, really. I highly recommend this album!!!!!
Poetic Lyrics and Captivating Music.......2005-08-17
This is an excellent collection. Bruce has a knack for getting to the heart of world political matters through song. He does it with love and care and the soul of a poet.
I highly recommend this CD. I am enjoying it very much.
Not the Best Introduction.......2005-07-04
I love anything from Bruce, anytime, anywhere, but you could do better than start here. The new cut, "My Beat," is a waste of bandwith, and I hate it when they add one song to get you to buy an album. No wonder everybody is downloading. This is a best-of from Stealing Fire on (ca. 1984). From that period you'd be better getting Nothing But A Burning Light (which contains the excellent "A Dream Like Mine"), The Charity of Night ("The Coming Rains") or Breakfast In New Orleans, Dinner in Timbuktu. Or better yet, go back to 1979's Dancing In The Dragon's Jaws or 1980's Humans. Everybody has their beef about a pet song that's left off a compilation. I've got about 20, but I'm keep them to myself. Bottom line is: you owe it to yourself to stock up on this excellent songwriter's backlog.

First one is great, second is sub-par.......2007-06-09
Anytime,Anyplace,Anywhere is a five star album,This Is The Way is a 3 star album.
Dale Krants' vocals are excellent, and this recording project should NEVER be compared to Skynyrd. Anytime,Anyplace,Anywhere was recorded in El Paso,Texas while the Skynyrd band members were still healing from the fateful Freebird plane crash. I take issue with the review that states Dale's vocals all sound the same. NOPE! Excellent lyrics, spot on songwriting,Southern rock guitars, and Billy Powell's famous piano make for a great bunch of tunes, and is well worth the price of the dual CD.
BUY IT!
rossington collins band.......2007-01-19
southren rock all the way. great cd and couldn't beat the price.
It's not Skynyrd but it is a nice effort.......2006-03-21
I'm not giving these guys any points for what they went through after the plane crash but the two albums in the package have high quality songs and performances.
Rossington Collins gave the world some good songs. I never owned either of these albums on vinyl so I'm glad I was able to take advantage of this double cd. Amazon had it for a good price when I ordered it a couple of years ago.
There's some very nice slide guitar work on all of the songs and the vocals are all great. No, it's not the same but it's certainly worth having in your collection.
Note: this cd is in need of remastering but I've found if you have and ipod and adjust the mix through itunes it isn't too bad. In fact the sound is pretty good.
This is not your fathers Lynyrd Skynyrd.......2005-03-27
I purchased this CD because I am a big Skynyrd fan. Thinking that a big part of LZ (Collins and Rossington) were here I took the chance (having not neard their stuff). Well, it ain't Skynyrd; more like CCR. Those unique, imaginative and powerful guitar licks we got used to with LZ just aren't there. And of course we don't have that southern soul voice of Ronnie's. Dale Krantz is not bad but just doesn't have the feel, sings every song the same way. Not a bad CD, just not Skynyrd; I guess that died in the plane crash too.
As Good/Better than Skynyrd?!.......2004-08-24
Yes, that's what I said. It's as good, maybe better. Dale Krantz (Rossington), has the pipes that were taking the rock world by storm, the next "Janis Joplin", many reporters exlaimed! Well, Allen's wife died during childbirth, and thus ended this band in yet another tragedy... But, don't miss these two great albums! They show Rossington and Collins at their finest! Workin hard! And, Dale Krantz has all the gritz required to be "front Woman". It's just a shame, that the new Skynyrd doesn't cover any of these tunes in concert, and just has Dale, as a backup singer....
These are classic, must haves for any southern rocker!

While the sales of Sarah Brightman's ambitious, Middle Eastern-themed 2003 album Harem may have fallen short of its predecessor, the veteran UK chanteuse's popularity as a live performer has only mushroomed. This live recording of her ambitious, sold-out Harem World Tour engagement at Las Vegas' MGM Grand Arena is testament to that appeal, begging the question: Will Brightman become the Grateful Dead of classical crossover? Indeed, abetted by the rich sonic textures of longtime producer/collaborator Frank Peterson, the worldbeat conceits of her recent studio recordings are folded into a larger, even more expansive live vision here. Brightman's overt dramatic instincts and oft-chaemeleonic vocal abilities drive a slate of material that stretches from the Arabian Nights/Madame Butterflypastiche of Harem's seductive "It's A Beautiful Day" through surprisingly effective classical/rock reinventions of Kansas' "Dust in the Wind" and
The Moody Blues' chestnut "Nights in White Satin" to expected classical bowings "Nessun Dorma" and the obligatory nod to
"Phantom of the Opera"

AMAZING! She is so much better live!.......2006-12-02
This CD rocks! This is Sarah Brightman on her Harem World Tour, and this performance was recorded at her stop in Las Vegas. The first two tracks, "Kama Surta" and "Harem Overture" debut from her newest album, entitled HAREM. The two tracks are connected, but in the actual Harem Tour, the full piece "Harem" is sung. If you go to www.youtube.com and type in "Harem Tour" in the Search Bar, you can see live videos. I would prefer that the album has placed "Harem" instead of these other two tracks. The third track, "It's A Beautiful Day", is from Madame Butterfly, written by Puccini. This version is Brightman's twist, which some more pop and some English. It's pretty cool. The fourth track on the album, "Dust in the Wind" is from EDEN, an amazing album. Track 5 is, "Who Wants to Live Forever", and it seems as though Brightman never creates a tour without putting this piece in it. It's a beautiful tribute to Queen's rendition. Track Six is "Anytime, Anywhere", also from EDEN. I'm not really into the Foreign Language - English songs, but this works very well, especially because she ends the song with the classical foreign language. The seventh track is Brightman's rendition of Dvorak's "Song to the Moon", or "La Luna". The track is beautiful! The eighth track is Puccini's "Nessun Dorma", and Sarah masters this beautifully! There is no other soprano I know that can sing this piece one octave up and can hold the ending note for ever!!! Track 9 is "The War is Over", which is followed by "Free", both from HAREM. Track 11 is "A Whiter Shade of Pale", from LA LUNA. It's beautiful to listen to. Sarah's version is very gentle, but has a lot of energy in the chorus. The twelfth track on this album is "Twisted Every Way", followed by an instrumental version of "The Phantom of the Opera" Theme. The next track is "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again", which is extended at the end, in which you hear some men cry out "WE LOVE YOU SARAH!", and she responds cutely with an, "I love you, too." The audience laughs! Track 14 is "Time to Say Goodbye", the duet that made Andrea Bocelli famous, and skyrocketed as the number one single sold in German history! The last live track on the album is "A Question of Honour", from "Fly", which is awesome! The last track on the album is a bonus track, which I don't really prefer. However, the whole album is simply amazing. I much prefer Sarah when she is live. She has a more magical quality! If you love Sarah Brightman, then you will love this album.
ALSO RECOMMENDED : Since there is so much Sarah Brightman to choose from, I also recommend EDEN, TIME TO SAY GOODBYE, LA LUNA, CLASSICS, and DIVA.

Inspiring, Beautiful and The Sweetest Voice!.......2005-08-21
What an album, absolutly beautiful!
We, the fans of this great artist finelly have in our hands a live album, and it's amazing:
-The voice is totaly live, she sang about 24 complete songs in the show, but the album only contains 15.
-Snow In The Sahara is a lovely song.
If you have the chase of get this alubum, don't doubt and get it; It wond disapoint you!
astounding performance.......2005-06-07
an impeccable concert experience that successfully elevates the album to majestic heights. I had long been a fan of Dead Can Dance and the unparalleled work of Lisa Gerrard. When Sarah Brightman ventured into these Middle Eastern sounds on the Harem disc, I thought it was too derivative of the Dead Can Dance sounds (there is even a sample used on one of SB's songs that had previously been used within DCD).
However, experiencing this epic and intensely mystical concert compelled me to realize the individual and unique glory of Sarah Brightman. Also, this concert is so phenomenally entertaining at many levels that I couldn't help but fall absolutely in love with the special magic of Sarah Brightman. Obviously, the expansive Middle Eastern milieu can accommodate more than one angelic vocalist!
I now consider Lisa Gerrard and Sarah Brightman to be geniuses who both warrant goddess status in the pantheon of lyrical greats. To see either one of them perform live is surely one of the most powerful and memorable sensory experiences one could ever have!
Great, of course.......2005-03-18
Sarah's voice and style are terrific, as usual. However, I have to say that her version of Anggun's "Snow on the Sahara" is fairly bland, especially compared to the original Anggun version. Sarah has the chops but lacks soul on this great song. Everything els here is very nice.

Out of the ashes rose a Pheonix, a fleeting moment in history.......2007-04-01
Recorded in a cold February, 1980, at Adobe Studios in El Paso,Texas. The survivors of Skynyrd had holed up to mentally heal and see if they could even physically play anymore, much less capture the essence of their combined talents on tape. Dale Krantz was added on vocals, due to an early decision to not even go in the direction of trying to replace Ronnie Van Zant. The ensuing album was pure creative magic! Dale, shy to write lyrics, was coaxed out of the corner and surprised everyone with her hidden talents. Her singing is very distinctive and shines on every single song on the album. Rossington,Collins, and Barry Harwood actually produced this album,BTW,and that adds to the magic, too.
This CD is worth every penny that is being asked by the sellers.
Awesome.......2004-08-21
A perfect mix of blues and rock. Dale Krantz-Rossingtons voice reminds you of icons such as Janis Joplin and Stevie Nicks. Takes you back to a time when rock and roll was Rock and Roll!! If you are a fan of Lynyrd Skynyrd, then this band comprised of the remaining members (Gary Rossington, Allen Collins, Billy Powell, and Leon Wilkeson plus female vocalist named Dale Krantz-Rossington) will not disappoint. This 1980 debut album from Rossington Collins met with critical and commercial success, unfortunately it was not to be repeated. If you just like great music, then definitely add this to your collection.
Perfect Record For Anytime..Anyplace...Anywhere........2002-06-21
I really need to get a c.d. of this, as my album is just about worn out. I don't fit anything like the profile you'd expect for a fan of a Southern rock band, but I like good music, and this album has always been a consistent favorite of mine. I bought it when it first came out, I don't even remember what made me decide to buy it, as I was into New Wave then, which was coming in on the remnants of disco. But the minute I put the needle on this album, I was hooked. I loved it. I must admit, though I found all the songs, then as now, tight and good, it was Dale Krantz' vocals that made this such a great album. I always liked Lynyrd Skynyrd, also, and this band, made up of several of the original L.S. members, had all their musicianship and talent. But adding Dale Krantz' vocals gave them their own unique sound. I recall at the time of this albums release, she was described as a combination of Janis Joplin & Aretha Franklin. Being a huge Janis fan, (Aretha's no slouch, either) I was intrigued about this girl that they dared to compare to her. Though no one can touch Janis to this day, I was very impressed with Dales vocals, the girl is fantastic!, and she can scream a plantive wail almost as good as Janis. She holds her own against the boys, as on such tunes as "Prime Time" and "Don't Misunderstand Me", then, on tunes like "Three Times As Bad" and "One Good Man", gives bluesy/power ballad performances worthy of the best of them. I consider this album, though it was never "mainstream", a classic album, but maybe the fact that it's different and unique is part of it's charm. Anyway, if you're a fan of good music with a Southern Rock twist, and then some, I think you would love this album. There's not a bad song on it.
Not your typical "southern rock"................2001-08-13
NO! NO! NO! This band was NOT Lynyrd Skynyrd resurected! RCB had their own sound, their own feel, and their own magic! That's not to say that there aren't "Skynyrd like" moments here & there (especially in the guitar department), but Skynyrd it most definitely aint. This band truly deserved to be set apart from ANYONE else. I love southern rock, but I just can't throw RCB into the same slot as Molly Hatchet, .38 Special, or Skynyrd for that matter. The musianship, as well as the song writing, is incredible on both RCB's albums. Their music makes you think AND stomp your feet at the same time! While the end of Skynyrd was truly a trajedy, I think the same could be said for the demise of this band. I believe the Rossington-Collins Band had a hell of lot more to give all of us.
The South Does it Again!!!!.......2001-06-25
Between Lynyrd Skynyrd and the current Lynyrd Skynyrd band, Gary Rossington and Allen Collins formed this group. With the help of the fantastic Dale Krantz (who is now Mrs. Gary Rossington), this band continues to fire up the Southern Rock scene. For anyone who loves hard-driving Southern Rock, this one's for you! If anyone was a fan of 38 Special, Dale Krantz once did background vocals for them as well. Check out the current Lynyrd Skynyrd Band's DVD, Lyve From Steel Town, Dale is singing background.....

Irgendwie, irgendwo, irgendwann (anyway, -place, -time) was a great hit back in the 80th went top ten for weeks and now...after it went top 10 twice from covers from other artists..NENA covers it herself and brings on KIM WILDE to have a hot 80s duo and believe it or not..europe has one 1 Hit Wonder less.. this track hit number 1 in Holland, Belgium and Austria and top 5 in Germany and Switzerland!! and the funny thing is...this version is just as good..if not better thank to the guitars and colab with Kim Wilde..there should be more of this kind of stuff!!!
Awesome CD Single.......2003-12-16
I just wish Nena would sing English in the Single "Anyplace" version - why not?
Otherwise, I love the songs. The new version is great. But nothing can beat the old 7 minute original "Anyplace"or "Irgendvie" versions.

This is the fourth( of five ) single to come out of the album 20 JAHRE NENA: NENA FEAT. NENA( Platinum Edition ). It involves a duet between Nena and Kim Wilde and is a combination of the new version of the German-language original( i.e. "Irgendwie, irgendwo, irgendwann" ) and the new English-language counterpart( i.e. "Anyplace, Anywhere, Anytime" ) sung by Nena and Kim, respectively. The radio version of this song features Nena singing part of the English-language counterpart, which does not happen in the album version. If you have not yet purchased the album 20 JAHRE NENA: NENA FEAT. NENA, then this single will also provide you with three tracks from that album:
1. Anyplace, Anywhere, Anytime( New Album Version, Nena and Kim Wilde )
2. Irgendwie, irgendwo, irgendwann( New Album Version, Nena solo )
3. Nur geträumt( New Album Version, Nena solo )
However, the radio version is more than enough reason for me to purchase this single, even after I have already purchased the album. I very highly recommend this single to all who can appreciate really good music.
As time goes by...........2003-08-03
When Nena first released that song in 1985 in Germany in german language, it became a big success. There were a few german DJ's who covered the song over the years, and they all had hits.
But what did Nena made out of that song, in that unbelievable duet with Kim Wilde, is so great, it made me speechless, when I heard it for the first time.
The two great ladies of the eighties made it together, they made it again, and the song rolled over Germany, like it was in 1985.
I love that song, and you can feel, the original was performed by a girl, and the cover now, is performed by two great women.
one of the best pop/rock hit singles ever made.......2003-07-05
I'm an american, and heard this song for the first time last Thursday in the front lobby of the Berlin youth hostel where my small traveling party was staying...around 1AM in the morning. The front desk clerk "Rina" (who was quietly singing along and smiling) identified the song/artist for me on a post-it, and the next afternoon I had a handful of copies (at $6 Euro/ea) to take back to America. Nice thing about current Top 10 hits -- they are easy to find! Apparently the track is only a hit in Germany and surroundings (but not the UK or Scandanavia).
The song and the recording are amazing, powerful and even slightly Phil Spector-esque (in its dramatic melody and large-sounding production), yet with a driving beat and some cool rock guitar parts. I love Kim Wilde's early 80's voice ("Kids In America"), know nothing about Nena except her one spotty album that drifted over here in the mid-80's junk bins ("99 Luftballoons"), but the sound of their voices back and forth (american to german), verse to verse and chorus to chorus, is magic.
Without doubt one of the greatest pop/rock hit singles I have ever heard in my life. And what a killer spacey love-you-across-infinity lyric (again, Spectoresque) on the english-language choruses!

Price?.......2004-10-30
I've listened to this cd,The price is way to high. Most cds in a store don't even cost that much. I'd rather go to walmart and get a disturbed cd for 12.99 than pay almost 18 for this? Mellow, low key Definately a woman cd or a good cd to fall asleep to after a rough nite of heavy Rock!
One of the best CD's I've owned.......2004-09-02
Chad LaMarsh has got to be one of the best live performers I have ever seen. So much talent in one (really nice & let's face it ladies, he's easy on the eyes...no doubt about that!!) person, it's amazing. His albums are spectacular, but to really appreciate his talent, you need to catch him live! This album was great, I really enjoy it. From beginning to end, it will keep you singing. Definitely a good buy! & CATCH HIM LIVE IF YOU CAN!!
Anytime/Anywhere.......2004-06-12
Chad LaMarsh is one of the few artists who can get and keep your attention thoughout the entire length of the album-
There is a wide range of feeling with each song, and if you ever saw Chad live, you would smile hearing each song on the album, remembering how he made you feel when you heard him play the song live. A smile is sure to cross your face when listening to Anytime/Anywhere-
