With her newest CD, "Breathing Underwater," Ali Handal continues to explore themes of passion, sex, and the inner battle between fearless independence and the longing for companionship that defines both Ali Handal the person and Ali Handal the recording artist. This album is an acoustic-guitar driven collection of songs, sparsely arranged and produced by Ali and her co-producer Tim Bomba. Ali plays all of the guitars on the CD, and is accompanied by Wes Wehmiller on bass (of touring bands Duran Duran, Missing Persons, Lisa Loeb) & David Leach on percussion (of Ben Harper's Innocent Criminals).

Ali treats the familiar theme of love lost in her uniquely bittersweet way, as well as writing several atypical love songs for various members of her family (although nothing close to her funky feline love song "Indy" from her first CD - there are no sampled cat meows on this whole record!).

Ali's music has been featured both in films and many TV shows, including Sex in the City, Joan of Arcadia, Life As We Know It, Dawson's Creek, and several shows on MTV & VH-1.

I love this EP!.......2007-06-28

This is probably the best EP I own. It's only four tracks long, but every minute is pure quality. The second song in particular, "Portraits Hung in Empty Halls" is really emotional and catchy. I can't recommend "Breathing Underwater" enough! It's just a pity these guys aren't around anymore (although I've been told that their album isn't as good as this little gem).

Not being familiar with anything else by this band, the best info I can give you is that if you like Alexisonfire or The Bled's "Pass the Flask" album, then you should definitely buy this.

Lets Talk about REAL Rock.......2005-12-25

For the longest time ive tried to find new music which not only challenged my playing as a musician, but also was fresh and exciting. I had the very fortunate opportunity to befriend the members of NOK and was able to see their raw energy in their music be transferred to their final production without any loss of power. (only thing is you cant see the crazy flips and I-beam acrobatics of my buddy Ryan J) But putting biases aside. This group of experienced musicians encorporate incredible melodic hooks along with crushing rhythmic power. The ability to combine the extremes of the calm and the frenzied are what makes this band a REAL Rock group in my book. But this is simply my opinion, take a listen to what the Boston papers are calling the "Best of Boston 2005" (its not the first time they've won that title too). Keep rocking guys. im glad to have been a part of their journey.
