Editorial Reviews
One hundred years ago, a huge chunk of Turtle Mountain in the Crowsnest Pass in Alberta, Canada collapsed and buried the mining town of Frank forever. Eighty-two million tons of limestone left a permanent mark on the local landscape so vast, it must be seen to be understood. On that early morning the mountain moved, approximately 70 lives were frozen in time, most bodies never to be unearthed.
Amazing tales, both fact and fiction surround the event. It is said that local natives had been unwilling to camp at the base of Turtle Mountain, which they called "the mountain that walks" Seventeen miners who were trapped inside the mountain when it collapsed clawed their way out to safety. A CPR brakeman flagged down an approaching train, averting a collision with the rubble that covered the tracks. Some say a baby was blown out of her home and found unharmed on a haystack; others claim the bank in the buried town is filled with gold.
These and many other stories are relayed through music on this commemorative CD.
