About the Artist
PETER ALSOP is a nationally known singer-songwriter, educator and humorist with a Ph.D. in educational psychology. Each year he presents to thousands of teachers, parents, and human service professionals.

He invites adults to explore deep human issues through the doorway he creates with his joyfully humorous children's songs. His presentations are participatory, and audiences report they have such a good time, they don't notice until later how much it impacted them. Peter's presentations are always memorable events, weaving together song, insightful and useful commentary, and hearty laughter.

He received a B.A. from Trinity College in Connecticut and did his doctoral work at Columbia University's Teachers' College in New York City, and Columbia Pacific University in California. Peter has worked as Director of The Harbor Schools Residential Treatment Center for emotionally disturbed adolescents in Maine and as a New York City elementary school teacher in the South Bronx ghetto.

His songs are used daily by thousands of parents, educators and human service professionals to help families discuss sensitive issues.

Peter has just finished writing and producing his first feature film, AFTER ROMEO. He has also produced and recorded thirteen solo recordings and seven video tapes. Each of his 6 family albums have won "BEST CHILDREN'S" awards from the prestigious Parents' Choice Organization and/or the Association For Independent Music, (formerly NAIRD).

Peter's songs have been included on numerous anthology records, videos, movies and television programs. Two of his videos have won national awards. One of them, "Wake Up" with John Ritter, helps families prevent child abuse and abduction.

He has acted on stage and television, and directed feature films and musical comedy. He's performed extensively at conferences, festivals and concerts through the United States, Canada, Southeast Asia, Australia and Europe with a wide range of well-known personalities, including Steve Allen, Sid Cesar, Jay Leno, Randy Newman, Kenny Loggins, Pete Seeger and Victor Borge.

As a speaker at a variety of human service conferences, he's shared the podium with noted professionals such as Benjamin Spock, Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, Norman Cousins, Buckminster Fuller, and John Bradshaw.

Born and raised in Connecticut, Peter Alsop now lives in Topanga, California with his family, actress/director Ellen Geer and their two daughters, Megan and Willow.

Product Description:
PETER ALSOP'S Classics for Grown-Ups "EBENEZER'S MAKE OVER"

In this "Classics for Grown-Ups" CD, kid's songwriter Peter Alsop goes back to his roots and mixes powerful songs from the feminist men's and women's movements with elements of Firesign theater zaniness, CBS Radio Mystery Theater drama, and his own engaging style of educating people while they're not looking!

EBENEZER'S MAKE OVER is a delightful hour of the Dickens "Christmas Carol" story blended with 20 new and classic movement songs by Holly Near, Geof Morgan, Charlie Murphy, Fred Small, Joe Jencks, Tom Hunter, Amy Fix, Romanovsky & Phillips, Allan Arnaboldi, Bob Blue, Tedd Judd, and, of course Peter Alsop himself!

As a close-minded college dean, Ebenezer Scrooge refuses to let the college's star basketball player "Not-So-Tiny Tim" start a chapter of a national men's organization on campus. That night Jacob Marley's ghost comes on the car radio and chastises Scrooge, warning him that three spirits will come to visit him. The first Spirit begins the "make over" in "Queer Eye For The Straight Guy" style by taking Scrooge back to his childhood to see where his sexist, racist attitudes were formed. The second Spirit, a "spirit of color", opens Scrooge's eyes to the "sea of privilege" white men "swim in". The third Spirit guides Scrooge into the future for a glimpse of what the world will look like if men don't change the gender-linked oppression that's ruining our planet. Alsop's "Kill The Children" is a chilling song that would make Bertolt Brecht proud!

EBENEZER'S MAKE OVER uses music, humor and story to raise issues and create discussion about gender issues, homophobia, men's relationship to war, work, our fathers, the women in our lives and each other. Includes: It's Only A Wee-Wee, (So What's The Big Deal?), Men Are Good, You Are My Spoon, Let The Woman In You Come Through, Shoulder To the Wheel, Chromosoma Phobia, You Ain't Been Doin' Nothin' If They Haven't Called You Gay!, Burning Times, I Ain't Afraid, What Kind of Brother Are You?, Five Moms & Three Dads, Womb Envy, The Hug, Gotta Lotta Livin' To Do, Give Yourself A Hand, Kill The Children, Foolish Notion, The Matador, It's My Penis, Singing For Our Lives.

It's great for therapists, parents of teens, teachers, counselors, teens, or how about a gift for that "special man" in your life who has everything but a "raised consciousness"?
