Laurent Garnier--the original funky Frenchman, house and techno impresario, label boss, and DJ who first dared the world to believe that French dance music could be cool--returns with his first album since 1998's distinctly patchy 30. Unreasonable Behaviour is much better. "Sounds from the Big Babou," the initial single from this long player, is a great lolloping hunk of funky analog filth, with a cool tune to boot: just what the world and its dancing dog like. "The Man with the Red Face" takes the usual techno-no-go area of saxophone solos and honks, and squawks it through some seriously energized tech-house grooves. "Dangerous Drive," with its minimalist techno, lives up to its name by packing a heaving dance floor into a Ferrari and taking it on a top-speed rampage down some twisty mountain tracks. In between there are moments of electro reflection, gently mellowing tech-house and flatulent synth sounds pootling around being friendly, chilled, and tuneful. Not that unreasonable at all. --Robert Heller

Ice cool and calculated with a French swagger.......2003-11-10
Laurent Garnier has had a glittering career as a DJ and a top one at that too! This album is a little more introspective which sees all his influences melt together and bring this perfect collection electro listening. May not be for the dancefloors but that doesn't stop you from enjoying such delights as the sax led The Man With The Red Face which I always loved but never knew who it was until I got the CD ( pirate radio stations I tell you ). However this CD is a must for anybody with a preference for ice cool synths with a French twist to them
Totally Unreasonable!.......2001-12-02
Imagine, that you're sitting in your favourite chair, after buying Unreasonable Behaviour to your record-collection. You push the play-button, and as "The Warning" is played, you think, that this isn't a normal record. Suddenly "City Sphere" is played, and as you raise yourself to push the stop-button on your stereo, something in you is saying, that you should give the record a try. One hour after you started the record, you press the repeat-button. Unreasonable Behavoiur is a fabulous record.
Garnier spent about 2 years planning and producing UB, and it was worth it. Garnier pushes it off on his synths and keys, and makes you another person for 69 minutes. "The Sound of the Big Babou" and "Cycles D'Oppositions" are the top spins on UB; you'll never realize, that these two records has ended, even if you hear something totally different. "The Man With The Red Face" is a 9-minute-long track, and though it can get a little boring, it's a brilliant track (same with "Dangerous Drive"). "Forgotten Thoughts" and "City Sphere" are filled with beauty, where Garnier does his best to make the tracks exactly, as he want them. Two tracks on the record are only 1 and a half minute long ("The Warning" and "Unreasonable Behaviour"), but somehow they sound good after you heard them some times. "Downfall", "Communications from the Lab" and "Last Tribute from the 20th Century" are great tracks, that concentrate in giving the most amazing view for the customer, that makes him think, that he is something.
UB can't be replaced by any other record. Buy it, you won't regret it.
Unreasonable production.......2001-02-07
Perhaps being a little jaded by other compilation albums that actually have scope, I popped this sucker into the cd player. Well. Alright, there are some stellar tracks that manage to combine interesting rhythms with squelchy synthetic basslines, taken as a singular track. Actually, theres 3 of those that succeed, and then there's 1 buildup track that worked rather well for me, and 2 straight house tracks. The rest of the tracks don't really work as songs in themselves (too little change) and most of them wouldn't really work as dancefloor material, with about 3 exceptions. And the impression of dementia is really only skin deep. Perhaps attempting to create a sense of continuity, Garnier threw a bunch of well produced, yet similar effects into most of the songs, which unfortunately lead to a continuous listen that reveals less and less as the cd goes on. Tasty outside, creamy filling inside. Do you like Twinkies? I don't.
innovative - it works.......2001-02-03
Laurent Garnier isn't just "DJ-ing" anymore. He's considered himself a performer, a musician. In fact, he is quite an amazing artist--quite innovative, captivating. LG is also joined by 2 other musicians one on keyboard/synth and the other on various brass and electronic wind doobries. 'Unreasonable Behaviour' is in a genre of its own. I am not sure how to categorize this album. It's obvious that "UR" is different from your ordinary techno/dance album. It finds LG in an exploratory mood. Performing with groups of live musicians and playing at the Montreal Jazz festival has given some of the tracks an anti-dancefloor, jazzy feel. LG claims his preferred listening material, is currently Lenny Kravitz and Herbie Hancock, a rather surprising revelation from a man whose just won Best International Dance DJ award by the musical press. Check it out. If you want something different, something artistic and innovative, this is a good album. If you were thinking of getting some hi-nrg techno stuff try something else.
Good Concept Album Best Suited as Movie Soundtrack Music.......2000-11-28
This album does a great job of creating the moods at which is attempts to produce: those of unreasonable behavior. This might be driving dangerously or perhaps being overly greedy. You can even get lost in the adventures of the album. It's hard for me to find a place for this album. I can't imagine playing it at a party or hearing it at a club. I think it's better suited as background instrumentals for scenes in movies or something. This album is not for a mainstream audience, but more for someone who enjoys concept music as an artform. I'd only rate it as 3 stars, but others may mind it more redeeming.

great album.......2006-03-22
Evalyn is a fantastic songwriter on a mission to change the world, one CD at a time. She has true talent. "Unreasonable", her sophomore album, is more cohesive and better produced than her first album, "Things That Should Be Warnings". I'm a fan in particular of "Canada Dreams of California" and "Time in a Bucket". I enjoy the whole album, but the track that makes the album worth listening to--even if you aren't a big fan of (...) music--is "Always"--an attack on the feminine hygiene industry, told from the point of view of a maxi-pad. "Yes, I've got wings--I can fly!"

Don't think, buy this.......2005-11-19
This has to be one of my all time favorite techno albums. I just imported it into my computer after thinking. I need to hear some Laurent Garnier. It is worth paying for in full. I just came here to grab the album art. I've had this album ever since it debut, and it has never gotten old on me.
Tour de force!.......2004-01-30
Unlike the crepe i ordered on the streets of Paris that was unceremoniously smeared with Nutella, this Garnier effort is thankfully undiluted by external influences. "Man With The Red Face" is a badass progressive treat, wonderfully complimented by some freestyle jazz brass. He employs a 'less-is-more', almost minimal techno attitude on most tracks, with varying degrees of success. Either way, this disc is a treat for the senses, and improves with each listen.
For Garnier fans, I highly recommend the 2 hour BBC essential mix set circulating on the likes of Kazaa as well. Both are glowing contributions by one of the industry's finest.
An introspective masterpiece from an underrated producer.......2000-10-11
Anyone who grew up in the halcyon days of the early 90s club or rave scenes has heard and enjoyed Laurent Garnier, whether they knew it or not. His influence has been pervasive -- from the gentle, propulsive acid trance of Alaska's "Lost In Alaska" or Garnier's classic "Go To Sleep" to the more uptempo club sounds of "Acid Eiffel" or "Crispy Bacon", Garnier has written club tracks that work as well through headphones as they do on the dancefloor.
Unreasonable Behaviour continues the tradition by melding a late-night Detroit techno sensibility with the sophisticated grooves of French house. From the squelchy darkness of "Forgotten Thoughts" to the epic jazz of "The Man With The Red Face", Garnier shows his kinship with fellow French producers (St Germain, Cassius) without ever losing his own vision. This album is all the more remarkable when you consider how diverse (not to say scatterbrained) his previous albums have been. This is a beautiful and thoughtful album, and deserves a wide hearing.
He does it again.......2000-04-13
I love Laurent Garnier, and I was really looking forward to his new album. This man is the best in techno-world. The album is great, and just like with "30", the last track is great !
positively good stuff.......2000-04-07
The french (ouurah!) techno master comes back with a good techno album. I think that you can buy it without danger, being myself only an occasional technolistener. Very good tracks which sometimes reminds me of carl graig music "more songs..." and some real buster title like Sound of the Big Babou and the strange jazzy Man with the red face. It's really the kind of techno you should be looking
