Josh White has been nearly forgotten since his hey-day in the folk revival, and Dave Van Ronk once confided to me that he can think of no other musician more in need of his own revival. In his prime, White was a belting, virtuoso blues singer, but he wasn't always well-served by song selection or musical setting, and his career in the late '60s and '70s drifted from the traditional Piedmont style blues he had clearly mastered.
