Editorial Reviews

Corey Levitan, Rave! Magazine, April 9, 2004
"...a better album than by all the artists on Atlantic Records in an entire year.... "

About the Artist
At 19 years old, Avi Vinocur has carved out an impressive list of credentials for one so young: he opened for the Beatles at Shea Stadium in 1965, he talked John Lennon into the cover art for the Sgt. Pepper album, he was taught how to hit a ball by Bobby Thomson (who won the pennant for the New York Giants in 1951 with the single swing of a bat), he was awarded the MBE by Queen Elizabeth at the age of 6, and he set Dylan on the right track in 1963 when he said, "For Pete’s sake, Robert--the times, they’re a-changing, man!"

(Actually, he did meet Bobby Thomson once.)

Proficient on electric, acoustic, bass, piano and keyboard, Avi taught himself to play guitar when he was 12. Influenced primarily by the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Simon and Garfunkel and Bob Dylan, he’s written over 100 songs that cover the entire spectrum of rock and roll: blues, folk, rhythm, and nuts-and-bolts classic rock.

Avi has performed solo and with his own band throughout Southern California at such well-known venues as the House of Blues, the Roxy, the Whisky, and Sacred Grounds. He was also asked to write a specialty number for comedian Bill Engvall to include in his latest album.

Look for Avi’s first CD in February 2004: Forty Years too Late

4 out of 5 stars Get in on the ground floor -.......2004-04-16

Avi Vinocur's first album is a throwback to the days when substance and melody mattered, a sort of concept album/tribute to the likes of the Beatles, Hendrix and Paul Simon. Not a bad list to pay homage to and Vincur seems to have the goods. The melodies are memorable, the licks slick with just the right amount of passionate slop and best of all; the music has soul, no small matter these days. This is an artist coming out of the egg so get in on the ground floor and you'll be able to say, Avi Vincur? Hell yeah, I've been listening to him since 40 years too late.

5 out of 5 stars I've Been Waiting for This Album Since 1970!!!!.......2004-04-15

As one who grew up on classic rock and roll in the Sixties, I gave up a long time ago on ever hearing my kind of music again. In fact, after "Deja Vu" in 1970, it all went downhill. So I thought. Then last week, while the CD player in my car was being repaired, I was channel surfing through both AM and FM and stumbled across a track being played called "Nothing Good Can Last Forever", followed by "Goodnight, I Love You"--and I nearly drove off the freeway without benefit of an offramp when I found out they were new songs. If you miss the Beatles, the Dead, Hendrix, Dylan, Joplin, James Taylor when he was great, Santana, the Moody Blues, Simon and Garfunkel, and yes--Crosby, Stills & Nash (& Young), this is a CD for you. Speaking for myself, I play it whenever I want to get back to where I once belonged.
