Classical Guitar Magazine (UK)
"Douglas Back plays it all with huge gusto and no little ability"
Product Description:
Belmando is pleased to announce the release of a new cd by accomplished banjoist and classical guitarist Douglas Back. This CD revives the repertoire of classical banjoists popular in both parlour rooms and concert halls in the late 19th century. Whilst classical music on the banjo may seem a novelty nowadays, this has not always been the case. By the turn of the century virtuoso performers had developed a spellbinding repertoire of arrangements of great and popular classics. Douglas Back, who is both an informed musical historian and a brilliant banjo player performs many of the original arrangements in duets with piano (Carolyn Boone) and guitar (Michael Johnson), and recaptures the music of a genteel and almost forgotten period in our cultural history. The CD includes a diverse selection of music, from a beautiful Chopin Waltz to an astounding virtuoso performance of Rimsky Korsakov's "Flight of the Bumblebee"!
