A really Fine Romance.......2007-07-05
It doesn't get any better than these two playing these guys! Some of it was recorded at Abbey Road Studios. Use your imagination... It's all just swell.
A Musical Treat.......2006-01-08
"The true mission of the violin is to imitate the accents of the human voice, a noble mission that has earned for the violin the glory of being called the king of instruments." ~ Charles-Auguste De Bériot ~
Yehudi Menuhin and Stéphane Grapelli together had made some of the most beautiful music ever-recorded. And I believe that this is one of the many successful albums they recorded together. In this recording, both violinists have showed their excellent musicianship and interpretative eloquence as well, making it one of my most cherished CDs from my collection.
These are the main ingredients of a perfectly-made CD for your listening pleasure: mix violins, piano, bass and drums together, combine two terrific violinists, season with the best melodies in the 20s, 30s and 40s from Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern, Cole Porter and Rodgers & Hart. Add the musical talents of Nelson Riddle, Max Harris, Martin Taylor, Eddie Tripp, Alan Clare and the rest of the studio musicians. Now all you have to do is to sit back, relax and savor these stunning melodies coming from your CD player. Listen to it in full-volume and fill your music room with the sheer beauty of these classics.
One of my favorite musical instruments is violin. With its four strings, it gives a whole wide range of musical versatility and I simply love the fascinating sound it produces.
My personal highlights are the best tunes from Jerome Kern - "The Way You Look Tonight" (Nelson Riddle arranged this particular track and conducted the Woodwind and Brass section), "A Fine Romance," "Pick Yourself Up," "Why Do I Love You?" and "All The Things You Are."
My choices from Irving Berlin's gems are - "Isn't It A Lovely Day?" featuring the great artistry of Nelson Riddle in arranging and conducting, "Cheek To Cheek" and "I've Got My Love To Keep Me Warm."
The Cole Porter repertoire represented his musical sophistication in "Night And Day," "I Get A Kick Out Of You" and "Just One Of Those Things."
The choice cuts from the talented and creative team of Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart are "My Funny Valentine" and "Thou Swell."
Listening to this CD is so delectable and equivalent to having my favorite dessert - be it Tiramisu, New York Cheesecake, Black Forest Cake, Chocolate Soufflé, Créme Brulee, Chocolate Mousse or Chocolate-Coated Strawberries! ;)
A musical treat.

Not much of a Disney Princess CD!.......2006-05-04
Well, Disney has done this again... How can this thing earn money?
Only "Kiss the Girl" "Reflection" and "Once Upon a Dream" are favorites. It was so strange that "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" which was from "The Lion King" was in this album. This was not from a Disney Princess Movie! And why the song from "Aladdin & the King of Thieves" can be recorded in a Disney Princess album?
I love Disney Princess very much, and I love listening to the wonderful and sweet voices of the Princesses, for example, Ariel, Belle and Pocahontas, even Mulan. Well, where are the songs of the Princesses? And I don't like the songs from "Cinderella-2: Dreams Come True", I think they wouldn't be so terrible if there were no classic Princess songs as reference substance!
This album is really unworthy. It was neither fit for adults nor children, even a Disney fan won't love this. This album might make Disney fans and your kid disappointed, even angry. We want to listen to REAL Disney Princess songs! What we want is not this confusing album. I hope that there won't be any Disney Favoties albums like this. It's really disappointing. I have to say this even though it's not nice: If you buy this, you might be taken in by this. Save your money to buy other better off Disney albums!
The Real Reason to Get This CD.......2005-12-31
I'm going to say it right now --- this CD is good. It's very good. If you're looking for true "Disney princess" tracks and you don't consider Cinderella II, Aladdin and the King of Thieves or Mulan/Lion King to count, then stop now. But it seems like most people are basing their opinions on the sorts of songs they expected from the CD, rather than what's actually on it.
The CD begins with "I Won't Say (I'm in Love)" by Meg(ara) from Disney's "Hercules." This is one of my favorite Disney movies and this is an excellent track. Meg tries to deny her feelings for Hercules, before finally sort of admitting that she is in love.
Next is "Belle" from "Beauty and the Beast." A wonderful tune of dreams and romance that was nominated for an Academy Award.
Who doesn't enjoy "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?" Featuring funny bits by Timon and Pumbaa, excellent harmonies and singing by both Simba and Nala.
"If I Can't Love Her" is from the stage show of "Beauty and the Beast." It's my least favorite track on the CD, but it's still fairly decent and interesting to hear for those who haven't seen this stage show.
"Reflection" is from "Mulan" and I consider it to be possibly be the best track from that movie. Is Mulan is a Disney princess? Well, you can debate that all you want --- I suppose at this point, she's royalty, so I guess she counts.
"Out of Thin Air" is my favorite song "Aladdin and the King of Thieves." Aladdin and Jasmine sing about what it would be like for Aladdin to finally find his father. Jasmine tells Aladdin that he doesn't just come out of thin air. The music on this recalls "A Whole New World" for me.
"Kiss the Girl" is from "The Little Mermaid." It's not my favorite song from that movie --- I would have preferred "Part of Your World." But it'll do all right. And it can't be said that Ariel isn't a Disney princess --- after all, she does marry Prince Eric.
"Once Upon a Dream" is a classic! It's from "Sleeping Beauty." Sure, the little kiddies today may not entirely appreciate this, but I think it's wonderful that they would include a classic like this.
Now, part of the reason for this CD's release was to have a place for the music from the Disney "Cindrella" sequel "Cindrella II." Yes, this is a direct-to-DVD release, but it's a good one. This CD is the only place to find these excellent songs, all performed by Brooke Allison. They also all (except the last one) follow a theme of "being yourself:"
"Follow Your Heart" is about a time when Cinderella was assigned to the preparations for the royal ball. She was given all sorts of instructions, such as not opening the curtains and not inviting commoners in. Finally, she decided to just do things her own way. A lively, upbeat, positive theme.
"The World Is Looking Up To" is about the mouse Jaq and when he decides to become human. Another fun track about being yourself.
"It's What's Inside That Counts" comes from when Cinderella's stepsister Anastasia fell in love. She thought she'd get all dolled up, but learned that she can be loved just for being her.
Finally, "Put It Together" is a wonderfully fun techno remix of the classic "Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo." I was surprised this works, but it does, splendidly.
So if you're looking for a Disney CD with great music and are willing to look past any preconceived ideas, then snap this CD up.
Another Repackaging Of Princess Favorites.......2004-04-21
When is Disney ever going to realize that recycling Disney Princess songs aren't such a good idea? As a Disney Princess fan since I was really little I have always enjoyed Disney princess songs. But i am so so so so sick and tired about on just about every Disney album dedicated solely to the Disney Princesses Disney always always ALWAYS has a habit of recycling old princess songs instead of adding new princess songs. I mean people already own half the songs on Princess Favorites and can buy them on the film soundtracks or the Disney princess collection cd. Why I think this cd was released is that Disney was trying to promote the movie Cinderella II Dreams Come True as the songs from that movie are on this cd. But heck one of the songs Put it Together is also on the SUPERSTAR HITS cd. So while this cd may be a redone version of Princess Collection Volume #2 please Please Please PLEASE do not buy,
Thank you very much for your time
Whose Princess Favorites???.......2003-10-15
I would classify only 3 of the songs on this CD as Princess Favorites - Belle, Kiss The Girl and Once Upon A Dream. The rest are either not Princess songs or not favorites.
My daughter is a huge Disney Princess fan, and wants to hear the songs from the Princess movies non-stop. She's only 3, but she does know her princesses, and the girl from Hercules and Nala from the Lion King are definitely NOT princesses! This is also the first time that I've seen Mulan grouped with the princesses.
We wanted music from the classic Disney Princess movies that she loves - Cinderella, Snow White, Beauty & The Beast, Sleeping Beauty, Aladdin and The Little Mermaid. I do not put Cinderella 2 and Aladdin and the Forty Thieves in that category - were those even released in the theaters, or direct to video?
I am generally a fan of the Disney compilations, but this one feels like a marketing rip-off. Get the Disney Classics 5 CD set if you really want the Princess Favorites - they may be spread out over all the discs, but they are the songs you want to hear!
Save your money!.......2002-04-30
A friend gave this CD to my little girl for her 5th birthday...she was thrilled to get it. The thrill ended as soon as it was played. She wanted to know where the Princesses were.
There is no Ariel...just a song by Sebastian. No Cinderella, no Snow White, and why would they place an unknown song from the Broadway musical Beauty and the Beast which only has been heard by the people attending the musical?? At least Sleeping Beauty made the grade. My daughter has the movie Cinderella II which the CD promotes, but is not familiar with them to really enjoy these 4 songs.
Again, save your money...some day maybe Disney will set aside some of their money and marketing hunger and put out a CD that any 5 year old princess will enjoy singing along with...BTW isn't Beauty and the Beast being re-released...oh yea, thats why that endless song about Belle is on there..Bon Jour!

The IMPERIALS...IN THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME ?...YES !!.......2006-08-02
There's been a lot of talk lately that Little Anthony and the IMPERIALS are under serious consideration for induction into the ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME. I say YES YES YES !! The IMPERIALS most DEFINITELY SHOULD be inducted into the ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME.In fact, they should have been among the FIRST groups inducted. They, along with THE MIRACLES and DELLS (and to a lesser extent, the IMPRESSIONS),were the only groups of the DOO WOP era of the 1950's to maintain consistant success well into the '60's and '70's. That alone should have gotten them inducted.Their songs have become recognized classics ,having been recorded by artists as diverse as SERGIO MENDEZ,LINDA RONSTADT, FRANK SINATRA,REBA MCENTIRE .and others. They could very well have been the very first "ADULT CONTEMPORARY" GROUP,establishing a new level of class and sophistication never before seen in R&b groups, while at the same time never abandoning their DOO WOP roots. The LETTERMEN,for one, seem to have re-recorded every song they ever made.Songs such as TEARS ON MY PILLOW,HURT SO BAD,I'M ON THE OUTSIDE LOOKING IN,TWO PEOPLE IN THE WORLD,GOING OUT OF MY HEAD,SHIMMY SHIMMY KO KO BOP,{which was featured in the TOM HANKS hit movie "BIG"},TAKE ME BACK,I'M ALRIGHT,BETTER USE YOUR HEAD,OUT OF SIGHT-OUT OF MIND,I MISS YOU SO,HURT,HELP ME FIND A WAY,and others have been recorded and re-recorded many times by others over the last 45 years. GOING OUT OF MY HEAD,for one, has had over 100 recorded versions, but none sounds as good as Little Anthony and The IMPERIALS'original version. They have also influnced an entire generation of artists , such as THE STYLISTICS, DELFONICS,BLUE MAGIC,MANHATTANS,CHI-LITES,and many more.In fact, the entire Philidelphia-based soft - soul movement of the 1970's,as exemplified by producers such as KENNY GAMBLE,LEON HUFF,THOM BELL,VAN MCCOY,and others, with it's emphasis on full symphonic orchestration and vocal harmony, can be traced directly back to the IMPERIALS'ground breaking early '60's recordings with TEDDY RANDAZZO and the late DON COSTA.Go back to the earliest days of rock and roll and they are there, with appearances on such shows as THE ED SULLIVAN SHOW, AMERICAN BANDSTAND,PERRY COMO'S KRAFT MUSIC HALL,ABC'S SHINDIG,NBC'S HULLABLOO,THE MIDNIGHT SPECIAL,and the MERV GRIFFIN SHOW - all the way up to their show stopping performances on the 2002 & 2003 PBS MUSIC SPECIALS-the IMPERIALS-ANTHONY GOURDINE, ERNEST WRIGHT ,CLARENCE COLLINS ,& SAMMY STRAIN ,-most definitely SHOULD {along with the MIRACLES,who STILL haven't been inducted }-be inducted into the ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME ! one listen to this cd,combining two of their best 60's albums, and YOU'LL SEE WHY !!there are at least 10 chart hits here ... including the rarely heard "MAKE IT EASY ON YOURSELF", strangely not included in any of their "GREATEST HITS" COMPILATIONS..and sadly deleted from most oldies stations' play lists today...THE POWERFUL "OUT OF SIGHT-OUT OF MIND " which to me is better than the original version (by the FIVE KEYS} and ranks with the DELLS' classic hit "STAY IN MY CORNER " as having the L-O-N-G-E-S-T HELD NOTE of ANY SONG IN ROCK HISTORY, and the dynamic THOM BELL produced "HELP ME FIND A WAY (to say I love you) ...a song that should have been a MUCH BIGGER HIT when first released in 1969...and WOULD HAVE BEEN...had it been released just 4 years earlier or later...In all...A FIVE STAR COLLECTION !!

More stars, if they were available.......2003-01-21
Why am I just now finding out about this group. Oh my gosh! They are wonderful. Their lyrics are witty, their musical abilty is versatile and they are just down right fun to listen to. I never expected to hear the range of songs that are on this cd. My favorite is Stupid American. My 16 year old son loves it as well. Eddie's concubine is clever. But I also like the one about the Blue Ridge Mountains. There is not one bad song on this CD. Don't wait until you are 46 to discover this highly versatile, smart and talented group. Go EFO!
edhead.......2002-12-19
Every song performed by EFO is magical! They are an incredibly talented band, and I wish they would visit the South more often. Great live performances as well as studio work. I am impressed with every new album I buy. Keep up the good work guys!
ED-DIE, ED-DIE.......2002-09-28
It don't get much better than this. Mix Americana (i.e., rock, country, folk, big band) with a generous helping of humor and you end up with this delectable treat. Can't even review the songs individually as they are so diverse and there ain't a clunker on the disc (i.e., they all work toward a greater whole).
Funny story here is that I stumbled across this treasure when I was working in Washington D.C. (where they are from)...although I lived in Maine at the time. Became a rabid fan, as you will instantly after you purchase this because it is one of those rare offerings that grabs you right from the intial listen! My wife got me a t-shirt next Christmas and I wear it whenever we travel abroad ---> and I am always greeted with "Hi Eddie from Ohio" by some passing stranger in foreign lands. But the punchline is that we just moved to Ohio, so my shirt ain't no big deal anymore. EFO is however...score this yesterday!!!
Dive right in!.......2002-05-31
Eddie from Ohio's lyrics are always entertaining, and the tracks on CD are no exception. Love the blending of their voices, and their musicianship overall is exceptional.
best EFO CD.......2002-01-06
The first time that I saw EFO live, I rushed home and logged on to amazon.com and purchased this CD. It is the best EFO CD to date. The opening chords of Stupid American make me giddy. It's the best noise in the world. Robbie Scahefer (guitar, vocals) and Mike Clem (bass, guitar, harp, vocals) share songwriting awards on this CD, Robbie covering the spectrum from sincere to sarcastic and Mike adding his humor. Julie Murphy Wells (lead vocals) is the best singer in the business. Bleeker to Broadway and Good at That are my favorites, but the whole CD is amazing from start to finish. EFO is best live, nobody will deny that. Still, buy this CD now and it will be stuck in your stereo until you get a chance to see EFO live and then you'll know the words at the concert. Check out the band's webpage for tour dates.

Not impressed.......2003-11-25
I was not terribly impressed with this CD. Fortunately, I decided to get it from the library to see if it was good before deciding whether or not to buy it.
Although the orchestration of the songs is well done, most of them simply were not meant to be performed by a chorus; and they sound terrible in that form. If you want some of the songs on this CD, I suggest you look at one of Disney's compilation CDs in the Classic Disney Vol. 1-5 series or the actual soundtracks of the movies.
Inexorable wonder!.......2001-06-23
Where to start?! Erich Kunzel and the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra have had a track record for recording some of the most stupendous movie music ever. Magical Musicals is just another example of how audaciously bold, yet beautiful Kunzel and the Cincinnati Pops have taken the original scores, molded them into the same pieces, yet at the same time, creating life of their own in each and every note. If you are looking for ANY soundtrack containing Disney music, this should be the first CD you listen to. There are others out there, and yes, they may sound beautiful and enchanting, but you won't find such a unique and compelling score anywhere else other than this CD. Check it out!!

music fan needs music education.......2006-03-29
a wonderful disc you should never be without, however statements that resemble-" better than REK, Townes, and Buddy Holly" are patently absurd. adam carroll is a great texas artist that definitely doesn't get an iota of the credit he deserves, I might compare him to REK (on a long shot). however when the Beatles appear on Ed Sullivan and ask in amazement-"was this the same stage that Buddy Holly played on?" it helps you realize the landscape change that some artists can make happen. but opinions are opinions, different strokes for different folks. in any case.........buy this album
Diamond in the Rough.......2006-03-24
Ladies and Gentlemen, what we have here is an underground Texas singer-songwriting legend in the making. A bold statement, true, but Adam Carroll justifies it and then some with this great release. Quietly and humbly, Adam lays down some of the finest folk bluegrass you'll hear anywhere. More than just another name in the sea of Americana upstarts, Carroll's music breathes pure American down-home spirit and back-porch storytelling. Without ever having met him, this album brings his personal style of songwriting and playing to you as if he were playing in your own backyard. Tongue-in-cheeck wit, an earnest appreciation of contemporary traditionalism, and a healthy smattering of romance is laid down with the perfect balance of worldy maturity and small-town naivite, making this disc - and Carroll as a whole - something you'll find yourself coming back to for more and more. I can't give this release enough stars.
Great album---great songwriter.......2005-09-15
This is a great album by Adam Carroll, a Texas songwriter in the veins of Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark or even John Prine...clever wordplay (Legs,Snow-Cone-Man), poignant observations (Race-Car Joe and humor (Screen Door, Ol Milwaukees Best, Legs again) all help shape this album...
It's just the guy and a guitar and seems as if he's just whipping an old piece of paper out've his gig bag and playin' the next song on the list for a group of friends and the first 6, really all of them, just go by so smooth that, on a first listen, one may think they're listening to someone they've known for years... Adam Carroll is a 30 year old Guy Clark, and this album from several years back is already a classic on my shelve---
Ol'style wordsmith.......2002-11-09
Adam Carroll plays Texas folk music with witty, intelligent lyrics that bring John Prine to mind. What you get here is an acoustic guitar, some accordian, a steel guitar, and harmanica. No drums or bass, just a guy, a couple of friends and his sense of humour. The reason you don't hear too many artist's like this is because there's not many who can pull off this stuff anymore. You gotta be a natural. Exellent disc.
Down-Home Charm.......2002-01-11
This is a fine CD, on which Adam overcomes the production of the absurdly overrated Lloyd Maines. Maines is smart enough here to stay mostly out of the way, which results in a very personal release. "Amanda's Song," "Rosemary's Song," and "Girl with the Dirty Hair" all shine here, and "Mr. Sno-Cone Man" can't help but draw smiles with each listen. This little-known singer-songwriter deserves a listen, and if he frees himself of Maines, he could really go places.
