Not Bad!.......2007-03-11
I had no idea Jani Lane put out a solo CD. I thought I would try this out to see if it would be any good. I actually thought that it wasn't too bad of a cd after all. It had good music and Jani sounded like Jani. If you liked Jani Lane on Warrant, you should give this CD a try.
Jani Lane Back Down to One.......2006-07-05
this cd is not that great at all. when he was with warrant he was actually good maybe I need to listen to cd more to se if I like it
The True Heart o a now heart less Warrant lives!!.......2006-04-21
This Album, shows Jani still has the style, contrast, and venture to do and write what he has been so capable of for years. Even though many of the songs are written previous of the last 2 years, everyone who is a steadfast and true Warrant fan, knows that he is the heart beat of the band once truly known as Warrant. The lyrics, ring true, but yet too popish at times. If you have heard the new Warrant album, called BORN AGAIN.......you will realize how talented and he is and how much they will struggle without him..Give This A listen..you will enjoy!! THen, listen to this crap rendition of Warrant That is left..its not even up to a garage bands standards!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jani makes it to the 00s. .......2006-04-20
Warrant's Jani Lane may be known to most as the voice behind the ultra cheesy songs "Cherry Pie," "Sometimes She Cries," "Heaven" among others, but he is actually an accomplished and gifted songwriter. Even when Warrant was rendered obsolete, the band stuck it out, releasing albums to a loyal, albeit small following. Whether Lane was writing pop-metal with such genre defining albums as "Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich," (1989) and "Cherry Pie," (1990) or was going for a more "alternative" sound with "Ultraphopic" (1995) and "Belly to Belly," (1996) Lane has always shown a knack for writing good hooks with strong melodies.
Lane's solo debut "Down to One," (2002, 2006) goes for a modern sound, eschewing all traces of pop-metal that made him famous to begin with. "Down to One" still has Lane's signature voice and infectious hooks, but the songs sound very modern-as in late 90s/00s modern rock. It doesn't sound "alternative," but more akin to LIT, as in modern AOR. While there isn't anything terribly challenging or ambitious on this album, like "April 2031," (from Warrant's '92 album "Dog Eat Dog") "Down to One" is still a strong collection of songs that fans of Warrant should enjoy. In fact, if this album had been released on a major label and been promoted, there is no reason why it couldn't fly with the general public today.
Great songs!.......2006-04-15
I knew this release had been out for quite some time, I even saw Lane last year and during the show reminded everyone to check it out. I have always been a big fan and it was "on the list" but I never got around to ordering.
Now it is released on sidewinder and at a reasonable price so I had to check it out. Most of the songs were written with Kerri Kelli...who also wrote "Face" off Under the Influence. Songs are of the same high calibur.
CD is very enjoyable...I have always liked Lane's voice and he is in fine form here. Lane has been critically under appreciated as a song writer...I think these are some well crafted songs. Production is great. I don't think it sounds like a warrant album but that's ok because it isn't.
6' under and don't trust me are my personal favorites. I would have liked to seen an all acoustic ballad like "I saw red" or "Stronger Now." If a song like that had been included, this easily would be 5 starts. As it is, it is well worth the money, a great effort. I hope he can keep it together and keep making great music.

Customer Reviews:
This isn't Warrant..........2005-08-29
This album has a very today sound. Very much in line with the college rock sound without the whiny vocals i.e. Green Day. After 4 or 5 spins the tunes get catchy. Not a bad album at all.
Pretty Good!.......2005-03-26
Ever since Jani Lane has been gone from Warrant for the second time (keep in mind that he left in 1993 but came back shortly after he had left) while several fans liked Jani, there has been one thing that the guys in Warrant (their bass player, Jerry Dixon, said this in an interview)and the die hard Warrant fans have always known: Lane lives in his own little world, and he has always had his own plans. Well, that may be true, but without question, Lane is talented, underrated, and his solo album from 2003, "Back Down To One" proves it. I have this album playing in the background on my Ipod as I type this. First of all, this album does not sound anything like Warrant, and the songs on this album that come the closest to sounding like Warrant are "Funny" and "Sick". Second of all, the only weak songs on this album are "Better Than You" and "6 Feet Under" (both sound like they were written by a fifteen year old boy), and the rest of the album is just great. It is a bit similiar to Paul Stanley's self-titled 1978 solo album. Songs like "Back Down To One", "Twilight", etc are all very pretty, and songs like "Nothing", "Sick", among others, are good to listen to if you are ever mad at someone. Lane is my favorite songwriter of the hair band era(as well as my favorite songwriter of *ALL* time, and I don't see why he doesn't get the recognition he deserves. We still treat artists like Michael Jackson and Kurt Cobain with respect (more for their contributions to the music industry), why can't Jani Lane get as much respect? If you log on www.laneyjanemusic.com you will see that Lane has written songs under a bunch of different categories, including a few country songs (the only one that has seen the light of day is "Stronger Now", which apppeared on Warrant's fourth studio album, "Ultraphobic"). What I am hoping now is that Lane will release some more solo albums off an American record label (and by saying this I mean no offense to the European record company that released this album), have a few hits and singles off any of his future albums (which is why I am hoping that his next album, if he does one, will be released by an American record label), and hopefully someday the song Lane wrote with Paul Stanley, "If You Could See Through My Eyes" will see the light of day. That song has never been released. But oh well, Paul Stanley's sophomore solo album is due out this year so keep your eyes out for that; hopefully Stanley will be smart enough to include that song on his album. Overall, don't expect "Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich" or "Cherry Pie", but, if you are one of those die hard Warrant fans who have been waiting for this album to be released for a while, or if you don't care for some of the new music that is being played on the radio today (or both)then give this album a listen. Jani Lane should be the next President of the USA!
Always a catchy melody.......2005-03-09
There has hardly been any promotion, but I guess that is what we should expect when it is under a Europe label, Z Records.
Let me begin with this; Jani should have released the songs he wrote under the "Jabberwocky" title. It was a blend of mature/contemporary vibe (vein of Elton John, Duncain Sheik, Beatles, Tom Petty, Sheryl Crow, etc.), with very catchy melodies. I remember seeing bootleg copies go for $100 on Ebay. Oh well, live and learn.
UPDATE: If you want to hear more from Jani Lane go to wwww.laneyjanemusic.com
and somebody else created a site: www.janilanefan.net
Now, on to this cd. This songs have a modern pop/rock sound. There are some really solid catchy tunes that would do wonders for labels if money and promotion was behind it. Examples are "Funny," "Back Down 2 1," and "6 Feet Under." There is nothing mind blowing or breaking ground, but what is here, is a pack of songs that can stand on their own. There really isn't a bad one in the bunch. Don't expect the Jani Lane style ballads either, but if you are a fan of radio friendly songs (some w/ a little heavier/poppier twist), then you won't be dissappointed. Jani doesn't have the range, but like other nonJani fans have said, "he does have a cool voice."
I still wish he would regroup w/ Warrant.
It's a Great Album!!.......2004-11-14
I guess that like me, all the Warrant fan's have been expecting a solo album of Jani, and we are very exiting about it!!
I hope you made a big one tour all around the world, including Spain. Your fan's will always be sopourting you!!
I Love you Jani!!
awesome.......2004-06-22
You know what? A lot of warrant fans were sad to see Jani go solo. In 1993, when Jani left warrant, I was excited to hear that he was going to record a solo record, but then, he was back in warrant for 3 more records. Now we finally get that solo album, and i have to say it rocks. A lot of it sounds like the 2 songs put on the warrant covers record face, and subhuman. Awesome grooves, and great lyrics. Its tragic that Jani isn't recognized as one of the better songwriters to come out of the hard rock genre. He truly is underrated, and this album will satisfy those looking for a strongly written, groove record. My favorite is Better than you. Hope that Jani can get a good deal, and put a few more records out. Thank you Jani. Great stuff.
