Product Description

Project Description: IN MY MIND THE NEW ALBUM IS ABOUT THE KINGDOM OF GOD, HOW IT REALLY DOES EXIST, AND IS AS REAL AS YOUR CAR OR YOUR KRISPY KREME DONUT, YOUR FAMILY, YOUR PROBLEMS. IF WE CAN FIGURE IT OUT, GOD HAS INVITED US TO LIVE in His kingdom in the midst of our regular existence. It is not a place of isolation and perfection, it is not far away where we cannot reach it. It happens at all the places where we intersect with each other. I hope the album is another reminder that the kingdom of God doesn't just come in the rally or worship event. It comes when I speak respectfully to my husband, and refrain from letting my anger spill over onto my kids, when I have an opportunity to gossip and refrain, when I open up my home, when I mess up royally, and have the stuff to go apologize, when I refuse to blame everyone else for my problems. These songs are about the beautiful character that grows out of seeing people through by loving God, and loving people. SARA GROVES Candidly truthful and compassionately hopeful, the fourth release from acclaimed singer-songwriter Sara Groves promises to be another creative expression of faith and relationships. This new project echoes Sara's first release Conversations, in its' intimate and honest lyrical journey. This is Sara's bridge building statement to fellow men pointing to the adventurous, transcending, life-changing Kingdom story. As a talented singer-songwriter, Sara offers an insightful and accessible view into the complexities of Christianity being walked out in a fallen world.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful music!.......2007-01-22

I love all of Sara Groves cd's, but this one is definately one of her best. Every song is excellent! "Add to the Beauty" is more in the style of her first cd's. One thing I really like about her music is that she has deep, thought provoking lyrics. Her voice is very mellow as well. Simply beautiful! I wholeheartely give this 5 stars!

4 out of 5 stars Great gift.......2007-01-13

I received this as a gift and have enjoyed it so much, I purchased several copies and give them as gifts as well.

3 out of 5 stars Half-way there..........2006-11-21

This CD started out really great; the first five songs are excellent. And then, the next six are mediocre. The problem lies in Sara's songwriting: she co-wrote the first five, but the next six, she did on her own. They are unremarkable, searching for a melody. If she would just work consistently with another person, her efforts would be greatly enhanced. I really liked her CD - "All Right Here" - it would be a strong 4 stars; some really good tunes with a few weaker ones. Her "Other Side of Something" (only 2 or 3 decent songs; extrememly disappointing; I would give it 2 stars) really highlights her weakness as songwriter: she is entirely too wordy, too preachy, too ordinary. Songs are songs, not sermons or meandering thoughts. She really needs to work on writing songs, not prose. Prose put to music does not make for good songs (usually). Some of her stuff is like an essay or mediocre poetry put to (unmemorable)music. And her music also could benefit from co-writers as much of it is simply not memorable or catchy. Sara does have extraordinary insights, which I enjoy; she does have something to say. I just wish her songwriting would improve. I had great expectations for Sara after "All Right Here" and my negativity is a result of my disappointment. "Sara, oh, Sara, you showed me such promise, but you never came through..." With apologies to Mr. Zimmerman.

5 out of 5 stars Great CD! I just love it!.......2006-07-30

I am very much a fan of this cd and it has been in my car cd player for close to a month now. I do not own any other Christian cds but I had heard Sarah's song "Kingdom Come" and LOVED IT! When I got the cd I realized I loved nearly every song on it!!!! So I bought an additional copy for my friend!

I highly recommend this cd to anyone! She is a wonderful artist with tons of talent!

5 out of 5 stars Shining Sara.......2006-04-07

Confession: Sara Groves surprised me with her sound on this cd!
I have come to know and love the gentle Sara and this was quite a shock. Sara does retain her mellowness and her voice still soothes. However, this is indeed an edgier, more contemporary and sometimes rocked out Sara. Still, she manages to retain the balance. This new sound left me confused, but I LOVED it. Major standouts for me are the coolly thumping "When It Was Over" which discusses the cleansing power of love, "Just Showed Up", the reggae reminiscent "You Are The Sun", the very edgy "It's Gonna To Be Allright", she calmly rocks out on the title track; "Add To The Beauty" where she urges us to focus the little things we can do extraordinarily, and the head bobbing, true "Kingdom Comes".
Through it all, Sara delivers her message. I'm sure that's what matters most to her.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome to hear the old masters almost live........2007-03-27

It was an awesome experience to hear Ragtime and early blues played by the masters themselves. When you hear the music from their own hands, if not their own pianos, it makes the music immediate, and makes even clearer the stylistic differences of the various American musical pioneers. The sound quality is excellent. I'd strongly recommend this recording to anyone who enjoys early-20th-century jazz.

5 out of 5 stars The Greatest Ragtime of the Century.......2005-10-30

What a terrific CD. What a joy to add to your life. Everyone should begin their day with this Great Ragtime. We would all be much better.

As a former dancer, Flapper, wth the Charleston in my routine, I do appreciate Great Music. I'm not quite as good as I used to be, but neither are you, Gal. Will be 66 next birthday. Still have the rhythm and love life.

Put some spice in your life and don't let this CD get away. Please, just get it today.

5 out of 5 stars A great introduction and sampling........2005-08-23

Prior to this album, the only ragtime I really knew was "The Entertainer" and "Maple Leaf Rag". I don't know how this album fares for enthusiasts, but I've thoroughly enjoyed it. It introduced me to several different composers. The way the album is organized by giving you a two or three song block by each composer is good. As you listen to this, you can easily hear the different styles from one composer to another. As for the recording quality, I don't have any complaints whatsoever. Each note is clear without much noticable fuzz or hissing. The versions of Scott Joplin's songs are played a bit brash and speedy when compared to Joshua Rifkin, but I think they sound livlier because of it. Overall a solid release.

Sara Groves has the voice of an angel, the heart of a devoted mother and wife, and the soul of a poet. It might sound cheesy, but it's true. And her third album, All Right Here, is an instant classic of devotional pop from this former high school history teacher. It's more upbeat and sonically fleshed-out than its predecessor, Conversations, which was one of the breakthrough releases of 2001. Among All Right Here's many treats are the baroque folk of "You Cannot Lose My Love" and the edgy, anthemic "Less Like Scars." Throughout the disc, the talented pianist and singer-songwriter's lyrics are soul-searching and achingly honest, reminiscent of the great Rich Mullins. Her songs themselves are as strong as Jennifer Knapp's, while she amply displays the heavenly vocal chops of Sarah McLachlan and Shawn Colvin. --Mike McGonigal

5 out of 5 stars A Confirmation That I Am A Sara Groves Fan.......2007-05-11

Sometimes I may hear an item by an artist and get excited, and then hear a second and wonder what the excitement was about. I've had that experience lately. This is the second project I've heard by Sara Groves, "The Other Side Of Something" being the first. Sara Groves is not an example of what I described above.

I enjoy Groves' style. She wrote most of the songs on the project, with the exception of "You Did That For Me" (written by Jonell Moser, who I heard of for years in Nashville but never heard personally) and Pierce Pettiz) and "Jesus, You're Beautiful". But better than the music is her lyrics. They are clearly Christian. Too many Christian projects seem to be for the purpose of being a clean alternative to secular music, and there's nothing wrong with that but I want more. Groves' songs are "more".

Maybe it would be easier to tell you my least favorite songs on this project than my favorites, and there is not a bad cut on the project. But my favorites are "Less Like Scars", "Every Minute", "Just One More Thing" (I relate to that tune), "Remember Surrender", "Maybe There's A Loving God", "Tornado", "First Sung That I Sing", and "You Cannot Lose My Love".

5 out of 5 stars greatstuff.......2007-01-22

My first introduction to Sarah Groves was at a Jars of Clay concert. I bought this first cd because I thought she was wonderful in concert. Very genuine and her songs were very touching and sweet. Haven't heard the others but I can't imagine I could enjoy them any more than this. If you have difficulty finding a spiritual component to each and every song... well I don't know what to say. Sometimes we speak loudest of Gods love by just telling our stories. As a believer, married for close to 30 years, mom of two grown kids...just about everything hit home. Thank you Sarah :-)

5 out of 5 stars Very Much All Right.......2007-01-15

Every Sara Groves cd is outstanding, but this one rivals Conversations as the best. The title track is one of my favorite songs of all time in any genre. Sara's lyrics are outstanding, and I could swear she's talking about me most of the time. She's honest, she doesn't sugar-coat her faith and struggles, but also lets her peace shine through in the midst of it all.

In addition to "All Right Here," other standout songs on this cd include "Less Like Scars", "Every Minute", "Jesus, You're Beautiful", and "First Song that I Sing", although "First Song" does drag on a bit longer than necessary. In a way, it's pointless to mention the standout songs, because they're all great.

Sara Groves is a great talent.

5 out of 5 stars what a voice, great lyrics.......2007-01-03

I love this singer and her Christian lyrics, they are not praise and worship choruses, they are lyrics that have thought and meat to them, and her voice is just lovely.

5 out of 5 stars "All Right Here" review.......2006-11-10

Great CD. Many meaningful lyrics. This was my first CD of Sarah Groves and I have already purchased another one. She has a wonderful, sweet voice. It is great music for the children to hear too. I would highly recommend this CD for it's Christian content and sing-along kind of songs.

"David Lee who?" is the question posed by this 2 Disc compendium of six years of Sammy Hagar-era performances. "Won't Get Fooled Again" is too obvious and tired a tune to be more than a novelty; better bets are firey renditions of "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love" and "Jump" (highlighted by Hagar's Michael Jackson impersonation). --Jeff Bateman

5 out of 5 stars Van Halen Live, Gotta Love it.......2007-06-05

Van Halen's Live: Right Here Right Now's Album has 24 whole tracks for your listening pleasure. The roaring fans boosts up your momentum making you fell as if you are actually there (if you play it loud enough) These guys were great live! All of their all time favorites and then some are on this CD. The songs you know and love are all in this great album. If your're into rock and roll and don't have this, you need it!

5 out of 5 stars Good But still.......2006-04-29

I really like this album, But maybe it was a little bit ofensive including almost the whole F.U.C.K album. I am not saying that I don?t like it, because I think it is the best Van Hagar album. However, Van Halen has more to perform alive. I think that more songs from the Roth's period would have been cool! Rock N Roll Forevaa!

4 out of 5 stars Albums (not boots, videos) from 86 and 98 tours would be better.......2006-04-06

This is the only one VH live album. It is mostly set list from F.U.C.K. album. It is overall very good but...
1 Mike bass solo is proof of his poor skills
2 Alex drum solo is way too long - who likes drum solos(not talking about drummers:))
3 Cover of the Who is maybe good idea, but why "Won't get fooled...", "can't explain" would be better choice.
Highlights: Poundcake, Judgement day(you can see Eddie soloing:)), Spanked, Man on Mission, Right Now, 316(of course) - it's in fact Eddie's long solo with cathedral, eruption and other licks. But I think guitar solofrom "Live without a net" was even better.
So, it's very good recording, but after watching some videos from diferent VH gigs I think that band was in better shape in 1986 when recording "Live without a net" video. Not to mention VH3 tour.

3 out of 5 stars Recommended for Van Hagar fans.......2006-01-25

In 1993, at the height of grunge and alternative rock, Van Halen released yet another multi-platinum CD with their first ever live album "Live: Right Here, Right Now." Compiled from various shows between 1988 and 1993, "Live: Right Here, Right Now," focuses mainly on the Sammy Hagar era of the band and Van Hagar's first three albums "5150," (1986) "OU812," (1988) and most notably "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge" (1991). Hagar's renditions of a couple Roth-era songs, a WHO cover, a few Sammy Hagar songs, and a few instrumentals round-out the album.

"Live: Right Here, Right Now" has a lot going for it. Many of these live renditions sound fuller than the studio versions, especially songs from "5150" and "OU812." Hagar's monologues, although at times long-winded, are generally interesting, especially his speech about living in the moment in the middle of "Panama." The instrumentals are more hit-or-miss. And there are A LOT of instrumentals; a drum solo, a guitar solo, and a bass solo. If you're into that sort of thing you will be well pleased with this release. But if you don't care for long instrumentals and solos, you may find them tedious. A cover of the WHO's "Won't get fooled again," sounds good, an obvious choice it may be.

The biggest drawback of this release is that it focuses exclusively on the Sammy Hagar-era of the band. It would have been far more desirable to have two CDs, the first covering '78-84 shows, (with Roth) and the second covering the Hagar era. But because the Van Halen brothers have always tried to downplay the Roth years and make Van Hagar out to be the definitive Van Halen (see "The Best of Both Worlds") we get a double-album of the Red Rocker without any Diamond Dave. When the band plays Roth-era material, it sounds good, until the vocals come in. As much as I like Sammy, he never could pull-off singing the Dave songs. While Hagar doesn't butcher the Roth songs, they just sound goofy, i.e. "got my ass against the record machine"(Hagar's replacement, Gary Cherone, did a terrific job singing all three eras on Van Halen's 1998 World Tour). Another problem with "Live: Right Here, Right Now" is that there are too many songs from "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge." Even if this had to be a Hagar-only live album, more songs from "5150" and "OU812" should have been included.

While "Live: Right Here, Right Now" isn't exactly KISS "ALIVE," (1975) it's still a pretty good album. While casual fans are advised to stay away, VH fans, especially fans of Van Hagar will enjoy this release. Hopefully someday an official Roth-era live VH album will see the light of day.

3 out of 5 stars Well(3.25 stars)...............2005-11-20

Van Halen's one and only live album,"Live:Right Here,Right Now" is pretty good, but it is what some people will often refer to as "a mixed bag".

As mentioned above, this is one of the best sounding live albums out there, and even though the tracklisting could have been better, this is still decent. It is a collection of Van Halen songs recorded live in about a four or five year time span from when Sammy Hagar was the lead singer of VH,and here, you hear Van Halen perfroming nine out of the eleven songs from Knowledge,as well as four songs from the Roth era of Van Halen("Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love","Panama",and half of both "You Really Got Me" and "Eruption"),two of Sammy Hagar's solo songs("There's Only One Way to Rock" and "Give to Live"),four songs from their "5150" album("Dreams","Love Walks In","Why Can't This Be Love?",and "Best of Both Worlds"),three songs from the Van Halen(Hagar era)album "OU812"("When It's Love","Finish What Ya Started",and half of "Cabo Wabo"),along with a pretty good cover version of The Who classic "Won't Get Fooled Again". Like another reviewer already mentioned, the sound and quality of this live album is so good that it is like a party on a CD,and Michael Anthony's bass solo,Alex Van Halen's drum solo, and Eddie Van Halen's guitar solo(which starts off as the instrumental "316" leading into "Eruption")are all really good and solid, but the problem is the tracklisting. It isn't incredibly bad,but it is missing songs like "I Can't Drive 55"(I know that that is one of Sammy Hagar's solo songs, but if Sammy and everyone else in VH were going to play some of Sammy's solo material live, what was wrong with the idea of including a live performance of Sammy's most popular and most famous solo song on here????!!!!),there should have been a couple of more songs from the Roth era here(probably both "Dance The Night Away" and "Unchained"),and I think including live performances of "Black and Blue" and "Mine All Mine" from "0U812" would have been really cool also and would have helped this live album be better than it turned out(I don't mind the large amount of songs from For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge being here, with the exception of "Man On A Mission"). But everything else here is really good, while this is a fun live album to listen to--Sammy,Eddie,Alex,and Mike all do a great job at contributing to that. The booklet accompanying this live album, which has pictures of Van Halen from their tour on which this live record was recorded,is really cool and is a good supplement to this CD.

Bottom Line:buy this live album ONLY if you are a die hard Van Halen fan, like both the Roth and Hagar eras of Van Halen, and don't mind the tracklisting here.

5 out of 5 stars A musical treasure-box.......2006-09-10

Both the music and this actual product are masterpieces. John Dowland's collected works here - covering 12 compact discs - exhibit the depth and power of this composer, a composer who many now regard as suffering from clinical depression. I doubt that the issue of the diagnosis of Dowland's depression can ever be settled, however, it is certainly obvious from his music, so completely on display here, that he was a man with very dark depths and corners in his mind. Dowland's various manifestations and "takes" on his own tune, "Flow my tears"/"Lachrimae" are here. This tune has haunted me ever since I first heard it when I was a child. It seems to sum up Dowland's feelings - at least Dowland seems to have thought so.

The First, Second, Third and Fourth Bookes of Songes, A Musicall Banquet, the keyboard transcriptions, all the lute music, consort music are here and virtually everything else written or supposedly written by John Dowland. Anthony Rooley and The Consort of Musicke perform this music with style and feeling throughout. This 12 CD set is something of a monument to the ensemble - I only wish they'd finished their collection of Monteverdi madrigals, which was equally good (La Venexiana are currently doing a magnificent job of recording all Monteverdi's books of madrigals for the GLOSSA label).

This is an expensive set, however, you will probably never need to buy another John Dowland CD again after buying and listening to this collection.

I bought this CD set on a mild Summer evening of 1998 and listened to it while sitting in my sun room - which a glorious orange sunset in progress, and a glass of wine. It brought back so many memories.

5 out of 5 stars a beautiful journey into melancholy.......2001-06-15

I'm amazed at how many people tend to associate John Dowland's music with a tragic sense of drama. While no doubt this is art highly based on sadness, the "tragic" sense of it is more a legacy from the Romantic period. During the Renaissance, however, sadness was undestood as a very aesthetic way of approaching life. That is also the reason why Shakespeare's tragedies appear more sophisticated than his comedies.

Dowland, a contemporary of Shakespeare, discovered that meditating on a sad theme is, at the same time, a way of discovering a special beauty that we tend to avoid (maybe because of the "tragic" heritage of the Romantics). So, in the end, meditating on sadness is an uplifting experience! This box set is a journey into melancholy that includes songs, chamber music, pieces for lute, some rare sacred music and -as a highlight- Dowland's beautiful collection of seven pieces for viola which he called "Lachrimae" (Tears).

The "Sisters K" return from the near dead with a bouncy album that in some ways suggests the early work of another musical sister, Shania Twain. Both acts offer a youthful pop sound that occasionally mimics hoedown music in the most superficial way, and both depend on layered production. Here, the Osborn siblings work from an inventive harmony base whipped into a frenzied swirl of sound by über-producer Dann Huff. Both acts also craft lyrics that can be astonishingly empty and insipid, but on Sweet Down Here, Kristyn Osborn and her various co-writers sink to new depths of banality. As a lyricist, Kristyn is at her intelligent best when she settles into brokenhearted love ballads such as "Without a Sound" and "Come Home Soon." Otherwise, she spends her time on "Passenger Seat" chewing on a Slim Jim and waiting for that first kiss (what, no garlic breath?); on "360˚ of You" she strikes a Lolita pose ("nibblin' my thumb 'cause I want me some"). She dots the rest of the album with references to plopping down on wet toilet seats and nailing her man ("you're a pesky little fly, I'm the pink plastic swatter"). They sure ain't the Dixie Chicks, but country music, that working-class genre, is nothing if not an equal-opportunity employer. --Alanna Nash

5 out of 5 stars Sweet SHeDAISY.......2007-06-17

My favourite SHeDAISY album, this a beautifully done cd. It's full of fun and upbeat songs such as "Passenger Seat", "360 of You" and the irrasitable "Don't worry 'bout a thing"... songs which are contrasted with the heart break songs such as "Without a sound" and "Come Home Soon". With lines such as "Those mockingbird words got away from me
Wish I could take them back, yeah" (Love Goes On), and "If I could make the sun rise a little too slow/To keep from hearing what I already know"
(Without a sound), SHeDAISY sound beautiful, while singing such heartachely sad songs. However, they also sound wonderful singing such upbeat and happy songs, talking about hanging "around like an apple in a tree" (360 Of You), and being "misunderstood, misused, or misled" (Don't worry 'bout a thing) on these fun songs. SHeDAISY sound sweet right here while singing these great songs. A all-round great cd.

This cd is no different than any of their others....all sorts of great songs on it! My favorite and the main reason I had to have this one is Come Home Soon...very touching song - I can listen to it over and over!! If you've never heard anything by SheDaisy I recommend this one and The Whole Shebang!

5 out of 5 stars SHeDAISY... IS HEAVEN.......2006-02-09

I love LOVE SHeDAISY So much!!!!! Before I knew who they were, I liked "Passenger Seat" Heard it on the radio, and seen the music video on TV. Way later, they came out with the single "Don't Worry Bout a Thing" and I loved that!!!!!! It took me a while to buy the CD, but when I did I just loved it!!!! I still didn't consider myself a SHeDAISY fan then, but then they came out with "God Bless The American Housewife" (well, I'm not a girl, so i'm not a housewife but I love the song anyways!!!!!!) And I STILL can't get enough of that song, I play it over and over and over!!! I stumbled across SHeDAISY's "The whole shebang, All Mixed Up" cd, and loved it too!!! I am a HUGE SHeDAISY fan now and will always be!!! Can't wait until I hear "I'm taking the Wheel" and the entire new album!!!!
My favs from the "Sweet Right here" CD is.. (no order)

Broadway veteran Liz Callaway (most famous for her five-year stint as Grizabella in Cats on Broadway in the late '90s) fills her second solo album with lesser-known tunes, a number of them covering moments in her career. Her lovely soprano can break your heart with the ballad "Since You Stayed Here" then thrill you with the showstopper "The Story Goes On" from Baby (which earned her a Tony nomination). The emotional heart of the album is "Meadowlark," Stephen Schwartz's wondrous tale of risk and heartbreak that proves a particularly glorious marriage with Callaway's voice. In a savvy bit of programming, that peak is followed by the deliciously langorous "Sleepy Man." Callaway's sister, jazz/cabaret singer Ann Hampton Callaway, makes a guest appearance in Stephen Sondheim's powerful "Our Time," a teaser of the sisters' live collaboration. Of Varese Sarabande's many albums spotlighting Broadway singers, The Story Goes On is one of their absolute best. --David Horiuchi

5 out of 5 stars Y'all are crazy!.......2006-11-03

The Billy Porter duet is one of the most unique and thrilling songs on the cd. What a fantastic re-invention of that song. And their voices by themselves and together are glorious. Its all personal taste and by no means is that the only good song. Its probably THE best solo cd by a broadway artist. Incredible!

5 out of 5 stars Liz Callaway Goes On..........2006-05-02

Liz Callaway has one of the most enthralling voices around. Her voice is melodious and very soothing and especially shines in soft and subdued ballads. She doesn't have a big voice but she has an amazing range and sense of melody.

She opens the album with a strong rendition of "You There in the Back Row" a song I'm not familiar with but has grown to love. The next track "I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Out of my Hair" lacks the spunk and bite that I think the song should have, and the arrangement felt out of place in the album.

She had a touching and moving rendition of `Since You Stayed Here". I'm not familiar with the musical Brownstone but this song made me want to check out the musical. It's about someone forced to become a stronger person after a breakup or some sort, that you wouldn't recognize it's the same person. I really love this song and Liz captured the strength as well as the sadness of the song.

Another standout is her now trademark version of "Meadowlark". The story of the meadowlark was a metaphor that convinced the character to the important decision she made in leaving her husband for another man. This is a really powerful song and truly Liz Callaway soared in this song. "Sleepy Man" was another notable track. This is probably the song that fits Liz Callaway's voice most perfectly. It was very sweet and really really soothing in the ears. This is one of my favorite tracks.

"Stop Time" is a song about the inexplicable combination of joy and sadness of watching your child grow up. It was a tender rendition that ends with a beautiful subdued last note. This woman knows how to end a song.

Once I got passed the cheesiness of the arrangement of "One Boy", I enjoyed it. It's old fashioned but it's still good. Liz then made an updated rendition of "The Story Goes On" from her show "Baby" This song was about a mother-to-be finally realizing the beauty and magic of carrying a child after she felt the child's first kick. I prefer the stronger arrangement of the song in this album compared to the Baby Cast Recording, but the innocence of that earlier rendition still resonates.

She ended the album with a beautiful rendition of "A Place Called Home". I first heard this song in one of Lea Salonga's concerts and I fell in love with this song. Her last note was very touching and melodiously and heartbreakingly romantic.

Grade= A

5 out of 5 stars Liz Callaway SOARS!.......2005-06-27

Wow! I love this cd! I went to a camp in Decatur, Illinois called Showchoir Camps of America. One night, as our evening entertainment, she performed this entire album!! That afternoon Ms. Liz came for a question and answer session with Phil Reno. She is such a down to earth person and sooo very talented! At the concert, I started to cry! During one song, Ms. Liz forgot the words to a song ( actually, I forgot what the song was called!), so she just made up some words to it!! If you want a TRUELY talented performer, Liz Callaway is the one for you!

5 out of 5 stars ....Love this album too!.......2004-08-18

I love this album. There are a few songs I kinda skip, because it was just weird. That song being "I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Out of my Hair", weird. I loved the duet "Where is Love" from the musical Oliver. "Stop,Time" from the musical BIG (grab your puffs!). I enjoyed the 50's sounding "One Boy!" from Bye,Bye Birdie. Liz has a wonderful range, and flattering childish tone to her voice, reaching notes that would take me years of training to ever reach again! She has complied all these exciting songs and ends the album with "A Place Called Home", from A Christmas Carol. I could never give her enough praise. If you like Strisand, and Sintra, you'll love her too! :-) Liz is always shinning when she sings! Enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars Unknown Talent Sings Unknown and Known Broadway Songs.......2003-06-10

... I thought I recognized the voice but I couldn't quite place it. I finally realized that she was the singing voice of Anastacia in the animated movie. Meg Ryan was the speaking voice. Liz Callaway has one of the clearest voices I have ever heard and also a very strong voice. I love her rendition of Knowing When to Leave/Promises, Promises by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. Great arrangements. Dionne Warwick, who I am also a fan of covered Promises, and the Carpenters sang a version of Knowing When to Leave. I'm also a Carpenters' fan. On this album all the songs are Broadway. Many I hadn't heard before but love now due to Liz. The first song, You There in the Backrow is a tribute to fans of shows. "Watch me sing my song for you" the words go. Liz makes you want to jump to your feet. Liz does a rendition of I' Gonna Wash that Man Right Out of My Hair from South Pacific, rock version. I can't say that's my favorite, but favorite to one of my friends. Since You Stayed Here, another unknown song to me, is quiet and hauntingly beautiful. Bette Midler does a version of this I think on her CD with From a Distance. She sings a duet with her sister, Ann Hampton Callaway who sings on Sibling Revelry with Liz. Ann wrote and sang the theme from The Nanny. The song Liz and Callaway and here sister does is Our Time. It's also on Sibling Revelry. Great duet. One of my favorites on the CD is Marry Me a Little by Stephen Sondheim. The words are a plea to marry me, a little. The song is an almost a desperate plea to marry me but you don't have to make promises you don't want to, an open marriage? Make a few demands a few that I'm able to fulfill. She sings I'm ready. We won't have to give up a thing, we'll stay who we are the words say. Someone I'm Ready. I would give this song 5 stars on its own. It makes me cry because she sounds like she will settle but at the same time she wants the love fully. The arrngements on this album are unique. She sings I've Got the Sun in the Morning from Annie Get Your Gun jazzy. Most of the other songs on the album are not known by most people. I can only say that Liz makes you want to see these shows and she pulls you in. I think I've become her biggest fan. I'm a singer too. I could see myself singing with her. I have her The Beat Goes On album too with sixties hits. I hope that people will get to know her because if you haven't heard this or her voice, you are going to be deprived of a remarkale clear strong voice. Buy this. I promise you won't be sorry! One more addition, Meadowlark. Spectacular! The story tells of someone hesitating because the time wasn't right and she learns from the story to live your life, climb every mtn.

5 out of 5 stars Incredible,Ska+Originality, best of the Aquabats!.......2004-11-27

Well I picked this cd up last after all of the other three aquabats albums, and I was very surprised. The sound made me want to get up and dance. This cd is very short and more of a ska dance feel, it's classic. Many people disagree when I say this cd is there best, there are only ten songs but Playdough and CD Repo Man are so good plus the fact that Idiot Box and Martian Girl are originally from this cd makes them even more fun to listen to, this cd is essential for Aquabats fans and a ska fan.

Playdough- So catchy! Better than Super Rad. 10/10
Martian Girl- Long, 2nd best song about a Martian. 7/10
Ska Robot Army- A great song! Makes me want to party. 7/10
Idiot Box- Excellent. Slower than the remake but still great.8/10
Pinch & Roll- Wow! Hilarious and a good ska raggae feel. 9/10
Tarantula- A little repetitive but still funny and decent. 7/10
Marshmellow Man- Another great song, sound like the Toasters.8/10
Aquabat March- The only track I occasionaly skip, still ok. 5/10
CD Repo Man- Best on the cd, one of the best Aquabats songs.10/10
It's Crazy,Man! Another great song on the cd, fast and fun. 9/10

As you will see all of these songs on the cd are very high rated with one exception. You probably think I'm just rating these songs high because I just like the Aquabats, well if you don't beleive me then check my other review for the Fury Of the Aquabats or just buy the cd, trust me it's there best.

4 out of 5 stars Evildoers beware...........2004-09-14

Everyone's favorite ska superheroes burst onto the scene with this debut album and it's obvious from the start that they are one of a kind. The album offers up 10 ridiculously catchy ska anthems about, well, basically nothing, but who cares? With songs as infectiously silly as "Pinch And Roll," who needs deep meaning? This is a great CD, but it pales in comparison to their second work, "Fury Of The Aquabats," which contains revised versions of a few of the best songs here. But for fans of the Aquabats, this is a classic CD.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Debut Effort!.......2003-10-02

As always, The Aquabats have a style unlike any others. They have an excellent sense of humor and don't take themselves too seriously. Their songs themselves are also very catchy.

5 out of 5 stars BlossomBat, Aquacadet extraordinaire.......2002-04-22

I love this CD... it is really the best ska cd to have been released in a really long time... NOt only does the music rock, but the bats themselves are super rad.. I met most of them at a concert, along with aaron brackett of reel big fish, but anyways umm for the people who like the bats I suggest you visit their cool website... and become an Aquacadet!!!! its very cool.... oh and this cd has all the classics like martain girl, playdough (which is the best song on the album) Cd Repo Man, Tarantula, just a lot of great songs.... The Bats also do the themesong for a new show on cartoon network, but I forgot the name... All in all I highly recomend this cd and every other cd buy this group... They are the greatest Band EVER!!!!...

5 out of 5 stars BE OPEN MINDED AND TRY THIS CD!.......1999-11-24

This CD is GREAT. A friend of mine, Stevie, suggested this CD, because she told me it was her favorite band. I never even heard of the band before that. NOW It's my new favorite band. It consists of a unique type of music. I can only describe it as, maybe ska, punk, and some comedy. But, really it's neither, because it's better! TRY IT! I GUARANTEE YOU, YOU WILL LOVE IT!

Album Description

Composer, pianist and three-time Grammy nominee David Benoit continues his legendary status as the pioneer of smooth jazz with his latest release, "Right Here, Right Now." Maintaining his signature style of tranquility, Benoit decides to loosen up a bit and add a little funk on this CD. The opening cut, "Watermelon Man" offers Herbie Hancock's classic funk but also embraces a retro-60's sound that Benoit classifies as "funky jazz" or "jazz rock". The title track, "Right Here, Right Now", produced by longtime friend and trumpet player Rick Braun captures the true essence of a David Benoit classic. James Taylor's "Don't Let Me be Lonely Tonight" is cushioned with an intoxicating live jazz treatment accompanied by a 22-piece string section. Benoit's musical selections reflect his attraction for a range of jazz-inflected styles, from contemporary pop to pure bebop, orchestral and hip-hop. On the cadenced "Jellybeans and Chocolate" titled with his daughter June in mind, he introduces up and coming smooth jazz musicians, Brian Culbertson (trombone) and Euge Groove (saxophone). Benoit also features the talents of his live band on the bossa nova inflected ode to Hawaii, "Swingin Waikiki" and "Quiet Room" a touching dedication to his late father.

4 out of 5 stars a CD you can groove to.......2007-02-12

This is a happy, feel good CD. It puts you in a groovy mood and the slower tunes, makes you feel like swaying to the beat. My favorite song is 'Jellybeans and Chocolate'. It's an upbeat tune that makes my toe tap. So glad I bought this smooth jazz CD~

2 out of 5 stars Disappointing David Benoit.......2006-01-28

I've been a David Benoit fan since the early 80s, and unfortunately, this latest recording comes nowhere close to the quality of his earlier efforts. I get the feeling this was a contract fulfillment for GRP--I believe Benoit is now with Peak Records, where hopefully he'll regain some of freedom to record the adventurous and tasteful music he's recorded in the past. This latest effort is almost as bland and faceless as most $mooth Jazz on the radio today--I can barely tell this is a David Benoit recording, he's so buried in the mix. Rick Braun's heavy, slick "formula" over-production does not win any points here and, in my opinion, is a lot of the problem with this recording: it panders to the $mooth Jazz crowd, not contemporary jazz fans (such as myself) who value melody and musicianship over fitting a radio-friendly formula. I get the feeling I'm listening to a Rick Braun recording with Benoit as guest artist...and this is not a good thing! For instance, this is the blandest cover of "Watermelon Man" I've ever heard. I'm waiting for Benoit to give us another excellent album like "Letter To Evan", where he displays his considerable piano chops and yet, still gives us memorable melodies of his own, and his unique cover versions of others' tunes done in his inimitable contemporary style. Skip this one unless you're a completist (like I am); if you're just starting out, get one of GRP's compilations, or pick up a few choice gems from his 80s and early 90s catalog.

If you're looking for some mellow music, strong musical background,
great vocals, and just downright good music - look no further!
Ali has it all! A few years ago, I was very disappointed when I found out he no longer was with The Temptations - another "Powerhouse" was
gone! Alas, he resurfaced. He is now a solo act and he does it very well! Pick up his CD! He has the style and the voice that lasts forever!

5 out of 5 stars The .......2005-02-07

Ali Woodson was one he best of the Temptations' lead singers and on "Right Here All Along" he reminds you why. He's among the best singers today! He starts you off with the gospel influenced, "Turn Out The Stars" and keeps you all listening all the way through to "My Na Na". My favorites are... Shoot, I like all of them! Ali is a true "Soul" singer. It's so good it should come with a money back guarantee.

5 out of 5 stars love the voice.......2004-11-25

I do feel I got my money worth, but like the other reviews I want more of what I know Ollie can do, the range and church gospel feel I know he usually do on his songs. I love the cd and he is such a great talent deserving of many awards that others have undeserving won. Keep it up, keep touring, the fans love you and want a new cd with that old ollie old school feel that we all love ane expect from you. No one will be disappointed with this cd and it will get lots of play from you once purchased. The man can sing, he is so awesome, love the cd
