Product Description
VOICES OF GETTYSBURG, the 2nd album from the 52nd String Band, continues the selections of favorite wartime WBTS songs, but with special emphasis on what the soldiers of the eastern theater heard and sang. Rousing songs like THE GIRL I LEFT BEHIND ME and the stirring WHEN JOHNNY COMES MARCHING HOME, and others, are joined by the lilting KATHLEEN MAVOURNEEN, the beautiful MARYLAND MY MARYLAND, and such American favorites MY OLD KENTUCKY HOME and SHENANDOAH. The band's vocals are superb once again, and all songs are performed with period-style instruments. In addition, on this album, the band s rising popularity as a Civil War dance band comes through with the inclusion of some dance tunes including a VIRGINIA REEL MEDLEY, SWEET EVELINA (waltz), and ROSE OF ALABAMA (Carolina Promenade). This CD was released on September 23, 1998, the 135th anniversary date of the original Gettysburg Cemetery dedication date (but which was later moved to November to accommodate the speakers and a short address by President Lincoln).Music Album:
