Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.

This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.

Just get a CD like this one to get a broad brush review of the popular hits of the late 1500s. While I would have liked a few more recorder pieces, almost every cut was interesting in its own way. If you want just one early music CD with English songs, this is probably the one to get.

"Elizabeth's Music" is a great cd to listen to if you are an enthusiast of ballads, the lute or old fashioned jigs. This cd really puts you in the alehouses, courts and courtyards of the Elizebethan age. The music is preformed well and the voices are very authentic and beautiful. The CD loses one star because most of the songs are on other Dorian-released CDs! I got the cd and found out most of the songs were the exact same ones on my "Shakespeare's Music" CD and other Dorian CDs. Ah well. All Elizabethan enthusiasts will enjoy this eclectic collection.

    Cliff Aungier's style on this 1969 album lies somewhere between the etherealness typical of British folk and the more earthy flavor common to American folk, sort of a blend of Phil Ochs and Donovan. The original songwriting isn't especially memorable, but the beautiful cover of Tim Hardin's "The Lady from Baltimore" and a spirited version of Dylan's "Down Along the Cove" help lift this recording from three stars to four.

    An obscure late 60's release from UK Pye records, "The Lady Came From Baltimore" contains (of course) a version of the Tim Hardin song of the same name, and other orchestrated folk/pop. This is one killer version of "The Lady Came..." holding its own quite well among the crowd of covers. And that's saying something, since Bobby Darin and many others have acquitted the tune in splendid fashion. Despite an occasional weaker effort here and there, most of the songs are pretty fresh and listenable.

      If you're lucky enough to actually find this collection scoop it up. I'll at least tell you what this collection really is, which they don't tell you above.

      This is a three disk set of previously released albums.

      Disk 1 is On The Banks Of The Helicon
      Disk 2 is Watkins Ale
      Disk 3 is La Rocque 'n' Roll

      All deliver the rich vibrant sound that one expects from the Baltimore Consort, and contains a fair number SCA Dance tunes. If you're looking for a 'best of' collection to augment the BC CDs you already have, there isn't one. But if you're looking to get the CDs, these 3 come in this tidy package.
