    5 out of 5 stars A thinking Mama's must-have music..........2006-09-03

I have been searching for Rosalie Sorrels "Baby Rocking Medley" for seven years now! Ever since it was played on Detroit public radio as part of a Mother's Day 'Folks Like Us' broadcast!
On this album, the song is preceeded by a wonderful 'rant' about the nature of baby rocking songs, and the necessity in every culture for 'hostile' baby rocking songs(!). This is the version I have been searching for, recorded later in her career, (you can find an earlier recording of this song on her 'Always a Lady' album/CD but that version is missing the preamble and the 'rant' in the middle is sparser, (this one includes details about children never listening, no matter how old they get, and how peragoric, a liquid opiate, "used to be found at the drugstore, across the counter until the hippies began drinking it by the quart back in the early sixties, now you can't get it at all." It seems this version grew more wonderfully embellished over the years.

Complex and arresting liner notes - a full booklet included with the CD -adds to the depth of her selections of songs: This is a woman to listen to. Sit down and read the liner notes while you atually listen, old school, to this CD, beginning to end. You will be transformed, even as your laundry waits to be folded, tears running down your cheeks. Rosalie Sorrels has the grace, the generosity of spirit, to share, her stories, and opinions in her songs, in a cappella readings, selections from Hunter S. Thompson and William Butler Yeats: This is not background music, this is thinking music, to be absorbed and learned and sung to your own children, to your own self.

5 out of 5 stars A Gift For Your Mind.......2005-01-21

THE SUBSTANTIAL, OPULENT, AND HUSKINESS OF ROSALIE SORREL'S VOICE IS CAPTIVATING. THE SONGS THAT SHE CHOOSES ARE AKIN TO MIRRORS OF HER OWN SOUL. TO EXPERIENCE HER MUSIC IS TO OFFER YOURSELF A MIGHTY FINE GIFT. FORTUITOUSLY, I WAS ABLE TO BE PRESENT AT HER TWO NIGHT PERFORMANCE WHILE LIVING IN SAN FRANCISCO A FEW YESTERYEARS IN PASSING. HAVING BEEN GIVEN MY FIRST ROSALIE SORRELS ALBUM, EVEN MORE YESTERYEARS AGO, "WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE GIRL THAT WAS," I WAS IMMEDIATELY SMITTEN WITH HER MOST SUPERB VOICE. THAT ALBUM WAS FILLED WITH "HEART WRENCHING" TUNES. I DEEM THAT ONE MUST HAVE TO EXPERIENCE THAT OF WHICH ONE SINGS TO TRULY BE AN OUTSTANDING ARTIST... AS IS ROSALIE SORRELS.

THIS ALBUM, "BE CAREFUL THERE IS A BABY IN THE HOUSE" IS FULL OF HONEST TO GOODNESS LISTING PLEASURE. THE ALBUM IS A MIX OF VARIOUS STYLED TUNES - NEVERTHELESS, THEY ARE DELIVERED WITH AN HONESTY THAT ONLY ROSALIE SORRELS CAN DELIVER. BUY IT - THERE IS NOT AN IOTA OF A DOUBT THAT YOU WILL FALL IN LOVE WITH HER VOICE, MUSIC, AND THE WHOLE PACKAGE THAT MAKES UP THIS FINE FOLKSY-BLUES WOMAN.
