More than five stars.......2007-06-26

I am a avid Harp fan. And I am amazed that the people I've talked to have no idea who Glass Harp is. These guys are simply amazing. This live set is awesome. Even if you are not a Harp fan when you listen to this album(s) you will come to realize the chemistry between these three guys. This set features some of the classic Harp songs such as Never is a Long Time, Look in the Sky and the jam David & Goliath among so many others. The second CD features some of the earliest Glass Harp songs like Black Horse, Changes and Southbound.

The quality of this recording is top notch. The editing is good. Basically this set is well rounded and solid.

No complaints whatsoever but the only disappointment is that I wish that Song of Hope from the first CD was not the extended version like it was on the Circa 1972 DVD. Other than that very small disappointment this is a perfect live recording.

Glass Harp anew.......2002-01-15

Glass Harp Strings Attached is a great 2 CD set. If you like Phil Keaggy, buy it If you like Glass Harp, buy it. They sound more polished than ever, with the same energy and raw rock & roll music that will keep you happy all the way thru. I highly recommend it!

A Remarkable Comeback!.......2002-01-12

After a nearly thirty year layoff (not counting the occasional reunion concerts)Glass Harp has returned to the music world with a bang.

In it's earlier incarnation Glass Harp was a magical trio, given to improvisational flights of fancy that not only displayed the remarkable virtuosity of all three members, but also served the songs well.

"Strings Attached" is more than a return to form, it is perhaps their best performance ever, and certainly their best recorded work. "Overture For Guitar And Orchestra" alone is worth the price of this two Cd set and should become a staple of the classical guitar repetoire.

Strings Attached -Glass Harp.......2001-08-30

Amazing! If you listen to this CD just for the appreciation of Phil Keaggy's guitar wizardry, you'll be more than satisfied. But the reunion of three of the most dynamic musicians that was once Ohio's Best Kept Musical Secret is the real reason to buy this live masterpiece. The joining of a great rock band with the Youngstown Symphony is magical. This is a recording of one concert - not a collection of performances over many evenings. Somehow the technicians were able to capture the magic that is normally reserved for seeing this outstanding trio live and in person. Add this recording to your collection only if you appreciate great music by great musicians.

The Harp is BACK!.......2001-08-23

Not since 1977's How the West was One has there been a full-length LIVE album featuring Phil Keaggy's masterful guitar work. What better occasion than a return not only to his roots in Ohio, but at long last Phil and Glass Harp have come full circle. Glass Harp Strings Attached is so much more than any expectation I might have contrived. The performances are so flawless you may sometimes forget that you are hearing a live album. One really incredible aspect of this live recording is the fact that many bands assemble live albums from the best performances recorded over the span of major tours. This is taken from a single evening's performance! There were no other shows from which to draw a singularly better performance of a given title! If you are a fan of guitar, classic rock, classical music, exceptional musicianship, and instant gratitude, this is definitely one for you. With only five rehearsal hours credited between Harp and the Youngstown Symphony, the quality of musicianship is obvious absolute genius. Keaggy's voice is as youthful as ever (speculation has it that he could be relative to Peter Pan, or even a certain well-preserved Hobbit), and the band's chemistry is as strong as any (and probably stronger than many more). If you are a bit unfamiliar with Glass Harp and/or Phil Keaggy, it is perhaps because of their Christian roots. This in itself only harkens to the integrity of their faith in that they do not seek out fame and fortune, but rather the glory of God through music. While many musicians are quick to sell out with albums that depend on occultic and violent overtones for sales, one listen to the music contained in this volume provides a quick lesson in what God's blessing can do through musicians whose minds are on Him. In this day of pre-fabricated, minimally talented, and just plain shallow assembly line musicianship, Glass Harp Strings Attached is more than a refreshing sound to wearied ears.

Strings Attached presented the Complete Beatles White Album in Concert May 19, 2006. About two dozen Austin area musicians gathered together at the University Baptist Church to perform the Beatles White Album in concert with Will Taylor and the String Attached Ensemble on May 19th. The atmosphere was fun loving and casual and because this is Austin, plenty of church jokes were made (by far my fave: "Hey, that baptismal tank sure would hold a lot ice and beer!"). Every demographic seemed to be there which makes sense when you think about it.... even if you've been living under a rock all your life, you'd probably recognize at least one song off of that album. The artists performed two sold out shows that night-- 7:30 and 10:00 pm. I attended the later one that ended well past midnight. Keep on playing it!.......2004-01-22

After listening to the free download, I immediately purchased this as the sound is just what I am looking for, rough beats but mellow enough to relax to. This is ideal pre-club, post-club, dinner party, and car driving material. I hate the term chill-out, but this is something you would chill-out to.

The sounds are something you would expect on the 'Cafe del Mar' or Hed Kandi 'Served Chilled' compilations, but these tracks don't become bland or uninteresting pieces of 'muzak' on repeated listens, for this very reason I highly recommend this.

For something this fresh, it's a steal.

A Little Gem.......2003-12-21

OK, so I'll admit I'm a sucker for strings, and for a variety of chill sub-genres. But that doesn't mean that you can just throw the two together and make it worth something other than nice aural wallpaper.

This EP works so well because there's enough substance behind the dreamy washes of minor key strings to keep you interested without breaking the mood. Repeated listenings (and the music just asks to be re-played) reveal the thought that's gone into the layers here.

This is an excellent late night listen. I look forward to an album!

With Strings Attached, is a pretty apt description for this CD. For any fans of downtempo beats with a deluge of strings, this CD comes highly recommended. It is sublime, intoxicating, melodic and beautiful.

With Strings Attached is mainly instrumental but contains an interesting mix of elements all underpinned by a copious amount of 'STRINGS'. Devushka (Beautiful) is my personal favourite. It begins with an orchestral tuning session before a moving string introduction and a sweet percussive beat kick in. This is all overlayed with a soulful female vocal sample. There is a wonderful climax to this track with live saxaphone, and the blissfully chilled out sounds of waves crashing against the beach - all good and there are still four more tracks after this. Apparently it was written in 1999, but released in 2003 - let's just hope it doesn't take four years for the album to appear!

I would say, JUST BUY IT!

The debut EP from this artist whose sounds are absolutely first rate. I have been a big fan of the downtempo music scene for a few years and found this collection of tracks mellowing and uplifting - beautiful string arrangements injected with a bit of an attitude!

Charlie Parker, Ben Webster, Dizzy Gillespie, and cornetist Wild Bill Davison were some the precious few jazz soloists who really triumphed in the "with strings" milieu. Davison, whose extraordinary career stretched across jazz for 60 years, was a true maverick. He had a rugged and explosive style, and yet he was at his best when he applied it to gentle and romantic ballads of the sort found here. His technique was limited in comparison with that of, say, Ruby Braff, Clark Terry, and Billy Butterfield. But he used it brilliantly, painting in swift strokes, like an artist. These two strings-backed albums were recorded for Columbia in the 1950s and here combine to represent his finest hour. Pretty Wild has him as the only soloist with Percy Faith and the CBS house orchestra. The ballads, none hackneyed, are well chosen and finely tailored to the Wild One's available resources. Duke Ellington's little known "Black Butterfly" is the diadem. The second album is arranged by Deane Kincaide and has the charts opened out to let in clarinetist Bob Wilber and trombonist Cutty Cutshall to share the solos. --Steve Voce

Wild Bill's best recordings.......2000-11-17

Those of you who are true fans of Wild Bill Davison will already know that "Pretty Wild" and "With Strings Attached" represent some of his very best work. Those of you who are just discovering him should not discount these records because the are not "true" dixieland and have a string orchestra backing. The power of Wild Bill's music and his ability to soar with his coronet solos is extraordinary. Only one other album even comes close - and that's "Jam Session from Coast to Coast" where he solos with Eddie Condon's band. Unfortunately that album has not been released on CD - at least not yet.

The Long Wait Is Over!.......2000-10-17

Counting all the albums he recorded during his trips to Europe, Australia and elsewhere, Wild Bill Davison shows up on 1,500 or so records between 1924 and his death in 1989. But the two albums that many Wild Bill fans have been waiting for are his two efforts with strings conducted by Percy Faith and Deane Kincaide for Columbia in 1956-57. Finally, Arbors records, with permission from Sony, has combined the two on a technically excellent CD that comes with a 32-page illustrated booklet. These are the albums that many jazz fans remember Davison for. During the rest of his career, he toiled for Jazzology, Fat Cat and dozens of lesser-known labels that issued some wonderful Wild Bill sessions. But they never had the advantage of the Columbia marketing forces and didn't sell as well as "Wild" and "Strings." For those of us whose LPs of Bill with strings have long since become worn and scratchy, it's great to finally have them available in one CD.
