About the Artist
Mr. Sounds is actually Mark Weakland, a songwriter, musician, author and teacher who has been banging and clanging on things since he was a little boy. Based in Western Pennsylvania for the last 20 years, Mark has played every type of music, from classical to rock to jazz, has performed with over 40 different artists and bands, and has opened for both rock and jazz national acts. Mark's business, Springwater Music Group, alternates between releasing groovable and lyrical fare for adults and witty music for kids and families. His music for children and adults has won numerous awards and contests including two Parents' Choice Awards and finalist status in the John Lennon and USA Songwriting Contests.

Featuring the sounds of a hippo in a snowstorm, a gigantic and fantastic dooflicky machine, and a singing slug, Mr. Sounds serves up an acoustic mix of folk, rock, jazz and bluegrass for all ages.

Mr. Sounds features storytelling that leaves plenty of room for the imagination, scores of silly sounds and wacky character voices, and the song Dooflicky Machine, one of three finalists in the 2003 John Lennon Songwriting Contest (children’s music category). And while you’re laughing and dancing, if you listen carefully you just might learn a few facts about a slug’s life, an Argentinean farm, and the instruments that make up a bluegrass band.

Witty word play, energetic dance beats, and great acoustic playing are the common musical threads that run through every song, including ten original tunes and two children’s classics (Mama Don’t Allow and My Farm). Across the 12 songs, Mr. Sounds aims to provide high quality acoustic music that is educational and fun for children, teachers, parents, and grandparents.
