Very disappointing, considering what it could have been.......2007-04-20
Take a look at the running times:
Disc 1: 60 minutes
Disc 2: 50 minutes
Disc 3: 61 minutes
Disc 4: 58 minutes
What gives Silva? There is *MUCH* more John Williams in the silva screen back catalogue by the Prague Philharmonic than what is in this set, and thats not including their entire discs devoted to Star Wars Films, Indiana Jones Trilogy etc. Why isn't Hook "When You're Alone" included on Disc 2? There's room. Why isn't 1941 on Disc 1? There's room. Why isn't Earthquake on Disc 3? There's room. Why isn't Far and Away on disc 4? There's room. Where's the other ten minutes of the Rare Breed suite on disc 3? Why isn't Midway on disc 1? Where are the Land of the Giants, Time Tunnel and Lots In Space tv themes? Etc. Etc. Etc.
C'mon Silva, most of these 4 disc mega boxes released in the past few years are packed to the brim, but not this one, and with new recordings made after this was released (the terminal, munich, geisha, war of the worlds, star wars ep 3, harry potter 3), it only makes sense for a "re-do" in the next couple of years.
Further, with Silva releasing the 100 Greatest Film Themes on six discs in a couple of months, it's only a matter of time before we see the ultimate six disc john williams set.
This isn't a BAD set to own, but it could have been much better and when compared to the Jerry Goldsmith and John Barry sets in this same series, this one is a major letdown.
Always a pleaser.......2007-03-31
I listen to music all day with patients in my dental chair. This one is a winner with everyone. Patients always comment on how they recognize a song. Who doesn't love John Williams? His music transcends time.
JOHN WILLIAMS 40 Years of Film Music.......2007-01-10
This 4 cd pack is an anthology of all John Williams works. From his earlier works "The Poseidon Adventure" and "Jaws" right through "Indiana Jones" and the most recent"Star Wars" prequel movies are included. Williams work in thriller and horror are also included. If you are into soundtracks and love movie music this is an essential buy. The quality of the music is excellent. With ten or more tracks on each cd it's well worth the money.
Movie Music Magic & Memorabilia.......2006-12-13
This four CD set expands on the previously released John Williams Greatest Hits. It's a grand collection of nearly four hours of famous music scores from over forty years. There are many songs never before available in any collection. The short liner notes tell a great tale of musical movie history and include all of his numerous award nominations and wins. Each song (oddly enough) mentions the actors and the director, so fond are John Williams's memories of his work with these people. All of the conductors are mentioned along with specific orchestras, choirs, arrangement and orchestration specialists and even the publishers (contractual, I am sure). The only things missing are his early television scores, such as those for "Lost In Space" (by Johnny Williams back then). But with four discs, one has nothing to complain about and everything to enjoy!
John Williams: 40 Years of Outstanding Film Music.......2006-11-28
I have been a huge fan of John Williams and I have known about his music for years. However, I never actually bought any of his music on CD. I was rather skeptical about purchasing this CD but when it arrived I knew I had made the right choice. The sound quality of the compilation is outstanding. The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra do a great job under the direction of Paul Bateman. The original London Symphony Orchestra CDs of John Williams' Star Wars Trilogy CDs are marginally better but this is still a great CD compilation. If you love ET, Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Harry Potter, you will love this compilation soundtrack. Buy it, listen to these CDs in the car and enjoy every minute of the collection!!!

Good But Not their Best.......2006-05-09
In a world full of manufactured pop and forgettable songs, the Proclaimers give a refreshing injection of life into the world of music. Like all Proclaimers albums, this is raw, honest, energetic and sympathetic. Where it fails for me is not in the songwriting as there are some real gems in here but in the production. Edwyn Collins' production seems noisy and gritty and distorts the distinct vocal sounds of the brothers Reid. You will enjoy it and some songs are so tongue in cheek, they will make you smile but the production is a little irritating for me..
Craig and Charlie rock!.......2005-08-29
I bought this CD because I so enjoy The Proclaimers music. "Born Innocent" is another winner. One of the great things about Craig and Charlie Reid is their ability to write some songs that are hilariously sarcastic ("Hate My Love" and "Role Model") and others that are genuinely touching ("He's Just Like Me" and "No Doubt"). This is a must-have whether you already know and love The Proclaimers or just like really good, original music. I wish the group was more popular in the States, but I'll happily settle for purchasing any CDs they release. FYI, I saw them live in San Francisco two or three years ago, and they were great!
Welcome Back!.......2004-05-26
Not that they've been away, but it seems a lifetime since the two time pop sensation I'm Gonna Be stirred my spirit. Sure there's been a couple of discs inbetween but nothing seems to stick quite like the undeniably catchy Hate My Love. In fact their are several tracks that keep me pushing replay. When Charlie cries out "You meant it then..." behind Craig I want to run down the street kissing everyone. This album is a gem amidst the slew of corporate muck that we are inundated with during the first half of the year. Not content being a nostalgic act, they write of mid-life woes and joys yet manage to make it sway. I'm grateful they're grateful.
Well they've done it again.......2004-05-25
Got a copy of this at Proclaimers' recent show in Chicago. This is a band you should never pass on seing live if you get the chance, their shows are consistently great. Initially I was not as impressed with Born Innocent as with Persevere. But while Persevere smacks you like a left hook with its gutsy brilliance, Born Innocent comes across more subtle but more pleasing with each listen. The Proclaimers come across with depth in their witty, poignant commentary on society, relationships etc. and throw in a lively cover of "five o'clock world". Their music never grows stale.
Solid international live album with a gripping title track.......2004-03-19
Born in Scotland and raised on Rock & Roll, The Proclaimers are far from strangers to the international music community. The band centers around twin brothers Craig & Charlie Reed, highlighting their forceful vocal harmonies with acoustic guitar and accordion and drawing influence form traditional melodies. They shout and wail from the bottoms of their souls, vocals intertwining with their intimate connection to the audience. "Born Innocent" is the product of extensively touring Europe in 2003, capturing the Reed's charged live and shows; in London in April and May, and the Glasgow Carling Academy in October. Currently on another international tour, they will be promoting the album in the U.S. and Canada in March and April of 2004. The Proclaimers are known to the first generation of MTV followers as the brothers who wrote "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" in 1987. Brett Lemke

hey come on!

one of my favorites ever...........2005-01-12
ok i need to apologize to myself for not listening to this album the past few months(because before that i was sooooo hooked on it!) but SOMEONE(whether you are reading this sooner or later, probably later) has not been making it any fun because he makes it seem too obnoxious, anyways whatever, this album is great!! when they made this album they were just some kid punk band in a historical time, something sucked back then to make this music just great! unlike most other bands in america by the time this was made, a lot of people were playing very fast(not like that is bad but...) but red cross played music inspired by what THEY thought was good, who cares what everyone else thinks?
orignally this album was on smoke seven records, a label which had other great records from bands not_____(something) enough to be on other labels. such great records like this one of course, the genocide/mia split, the public service comp with circle one (a bizarre christian PUNX gang band), and now super-legendary bad religion(whom one of the original red cross members is in now, i find that a little ironic)...i'm glad this album was rereleased. it, along with all the big boys material(specially wheres my towel lp), taught me a very valuable lesson that some people will never learn their entire lives: music is not about looking cool, hardass, professional, its supposed to entertain, just have FUN, that is it, no matter what, just have fun....
LIKE A SUN ABOUT TO GO NOVA.......2003-04-02
this is the reissue of red kross' debut album. redd kross to me are a great band full of meldoy and fun and great pop hooks and unlike most bands that trade melody for pop appeal, redd kross revel in pop but retain the music quality.
this being their first album, i had to check it out. what i found was a great punk album. it is very unpolished and it is blantant that RK are amatuers during this album. they have not blossomed yet but it is all part of the trip of growing up as a band and this record shows that. to me its great. this band is not even old enough to vote yet... but that does not stop the good snotty teen punk from being melodic and great. one can see the shapes of things to come. you can see shadows of future redd kross sounds and melodies but it is still a very very unpolished record and quite different from later more focused redd kross albums.
Fun and trashy.......2003-02-05
Redd Kross, Red Cross, whatever you wanna call 'em... I dig it. How can I NOT like a punk band who started with a 12 year old bass player? On this record, the bass player is the ripe old age of 14. Killer. And he's actually pretty good.
It seems like early on Red Cross changed style on every damn record they put out. My personal favorite by them, their self-titled debut 12" (aka "Annette's Got the Hits") is snotty, brief teen punk with topics like school and girls. Honestly one of the best punk records ever for its amatuerish charm and impressively catchy tunes for being written by a bunch of kids barely past puberty.
"Born Innocent" saw Red Cross dropping half of their original members (Chavo from Black Flag and Greg from Circle Jerks/Bad Religion!) and recruiting a couple of cute girls, morphing their sound to more structured, trashy, garagy punk. Lots of wild, meandering, atonal guitar leads and sub-NY Dolls slop ... but a lot of fun. Its the kinda record you put on to lift your spirits and deliver a jolt of juvenile energy right to your heart.
Pretty much all the songs are great in their own way, whether the anthemic "Notes and Chords Mean Nothing To Me" (which sums up my philosophy of playing music pretty well) or the not-very-PC "Kill Someone That You Hate" ('smashing windows with a baseball bat/ for a feeling that is great/ go and kill someone you hate').
Pop culture references abound; songs about Linda Blair and Patty Hurst are thrown about liberally, and they even cover a Charles Manson tune. You gotta wonder what the kids' parents thought.
All in all, another overlooked gem in the LA punk crown that more people oughtta check out. Rock!

Customer Reviews:
Role Model........2003-12-03
The Proclaimers fifth cd "Born Innocent" continues to showcase their strong brand of Scottish folk and roll music. The highlights being "Born Innocent", "Should Have Been Loved", "Blood On Your Hands", "He's Just Like Me", "Role Model" and "Dear Deidre". The brothers are at their best on those songs because they make a great mix of folk and uptempo rock music with sometimes insightful and humorous lyrical observations on relationships, politics and religion. The rest of the disc is serviceable, but "Born Innocent" does not surpass previous successes like 1988's "Sunshine On Leith" and 2001's "Persevere". Proclaimers fans should enjoy this one.

Customer Reviews:
Not what I expected.......2000-09-30
This compilation does not contain titles of real hit movies. It contains mostly sentimental or comic songs from old movies and even from the ones I managed to recognise only a handful were original. It struck me hard to find "Enae Volare" from "Les Visiteurs", the only title I ordered this compilation for, terribly altered but that might concern me alone. Finding "What a Feeling" from "Flashdance" similarly altered made me wonder... later, on the back of the box, I found a small note saying, as I could decrypt from French, that the songs in the album were not necessary original. I should've been warned about this in advance!
