About the Artist
Singer Songwriter Geri Smith began her musical training in classical piano at an early age, but by her teens, she began playing the guitar and writing her own songs. Geri has just completed her second album "Two Sides to a Story". Two songs from this album have been chosen for film - "On The Outside Looking In" written with Pete Levin was featured in the film "Zelimo" released in 2001, and "A Question of When" will appear in the soundtrack for "Indian Fish" due out in 2003. A third song from this album "The Tears of Natalie" has been licensed by the Bose corporation for stereo demos in Alfa Romeos and Fiats in the US and in Europe. Two songs from Geri's first album "This Chain" were also licensed by Bose - "Just a Little Bit" was on the demo for the Bose Wave Radio and Acoustic Wave System. "Something to do with Laurie" was on a Bose DVD as well as a Mercedes stereo demo. Two more of Geri's songs from this album "Mirage" and "Can You See Me Hilda" were featured on Fast Folk CDs. "Can You See Me Hilda" is also featured on the Thirteen Stories compilation CD "I Remember You" due out in 2002, along with "A Question of When" from the second album. Geri also cowrote and coproduced a children's album with artist John Hadfield called "Monkeys in the House", which is receiving airplay on a number of Children's Radio Shows including "Kids Corner" a syndicated show produced at WXPN Philadelphia. "Monkeys in the House" was chosen as a winner in three categories of the Children's Music Web Awards. Geri's publishing company, London Sunset Music, Inc is in it's fourth year of business. She is currently in the studio working on a variety of projects, including a second album for John Hadfield as well as her own third album. Geri performs all around the Delaware Valley and in New York and Nashville, switching from guitar to piano to mandolin throughout the night. Venues include several appearances at the New York Songwriter's Circle (a prestigio! us showcase featuring many well known writers as well as up and coming talent), Writer's Nights at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, Songwriter's Guild Showcases, The National Academy of Popular Music's Songwriter Showcase, BMI's Acoustic Roundup and several Women in Music Showcases. Geri has also appeared off Broadway as a singer and pianist in "Sisters of the 60's" with Darlene Love, Mary Wilson and Beverly Lee. Geri currently teaches piano and voice at the Center for the Creative Arts in Yorklyn De. She received her Dalcroze Certification from the Juilliard School in Manhattan in 2001. Geri has studied jazz piano and arranging in New York with Pete Levin (Brubeck Group) and classical piano with Daniel Cataneo (Juilliard).

Product Description:
With her haunting melodies and beautiful voice, Geri Smith takes the listener on a musical journey through the emotional depths of betrayal and despair, and back to the light of hope and promise. Each song tells a story, and her vivid imagery is complimented by her complex yet memorable music, reminiscent of Joni Mitchell. A satisfying follow up to her first album "This Chain", "Two Sides to a Story" delivers deeper insight into love and relationships. If you are tired of the same old "dumbed down" pop song subjects and empty rhetoric, you will likely enjoy Geri's approach to song writing.

Product Description

In three short years singer/songwriter LeRoy Bell has built a reputation and a national fan base that eagerly awaits the release of his first full length CD, TWO SIDES TO EVERY STORY. A year in the making, TWO SIDES TO EVERY STORY delivers poignant songs of peace, passion, politics, lament, love and deceit. The bountiful 14 tracks of TWO SIDES TO EVERY STORY reflect LeRoys visions, past hopes and future promises told from the multiple perspectives of life. TWO SIDES TO EVERY STORY brings to light social issues, concerns, and compassion for everyone. With the hopes of youth, love, lost love, and optimism for humanity, Bell speaks through his personal observations and musical lyricism. Written by LeRoy Bell over the past two and a half years, the social parallels can be drawn by the listener. The sonic stratification of multiple guitars, strings, percussion and bass, provide the lush layers and textures that allow Bells earthy, soulful voice to whisper and soar with emotion. The honesty of his voice and lyrics makes you feel as if each song is being sung directly to each listener. Also featured on TWO SIDES TO EVERY STORY are His Only Friends, Bells trusty band of veteran musicians. The soaring cello played by Phil Peterson is a familiar element in LeRoys non-traditional sound. Guitar virtuoso Rick Novito adds an uncommon approach to texture and lyrical statements ranging from folk to jazz & rock. The heartbeat of the music is the dynamic, funky bass of Terry Morgan, paired with incredibly rhythmic pulsations of LeRoy Bell on drums, guitar, banjo, accordion and miscellaneous percussion. Multi-cultural percussionist Stan White adds a world beat perspective to Bells impassioned vocals and melodies, completing the sound. This knack for artful songwriting has a vivid history. As half of the youthful songwriting team Bell & James , Casey James and LeRoy Bell are the authors of Elton John's Grammy-nominated 1979 Top Ten hit, "Mama Can't Buy You Love," and Eltons 2004 #1 British single Are You Ready For Love. Bell and James also attained top ten status with the dance hit, Livin It Up Friday Night. For LeRoy writing became the main focus over performing allowing him to collaborate with legendary songwriter/producer Thom Bell (his uncle) and Casey James penning songs for The Spinners, The OJays, Rita Marley, The Temptations, Johnny Mathis, Phyllis Hyman and many more. Only recently has LeRoy surfaced as the singer/songwriter he is today. Gaining early acceptance and warm reception, he has recently performed with B.B. King, Al Green, Taj Mahal, Jackie Greene, Keb Mo, LeAnn Rimes, The Temptations, The OJays, Mavis Staples, Colin Hay, Leon Russell, Sonny Landreth, Kenny Loggins, The Young Dubliners, and others.

5 out of 5 stars Great Artist Fabulous Songs!.......2007-01-04

this is a great CD of brilliant songs from a first class songwriter,
I am surprised that Leroy Bell is not better known as this is hot stuff and what a voice !!.
buy this and his first cd you will enjoy a lot !

4 out of 5 stars Good!.......2007-01-03

I had never heard of this performer. I was introduced to him on my cable adult alternative channel and couldn't get the song "Voodoo" out of my head! The rest of the album is just as catchy. I didn't realize how many performers Mr. Bell had written songs for either. He's a talented dude! I thoroughly enjoy his music!

5 out of 5 stars Both sides of this story are great........2006-10-30

This is an amazing CD. I went to a concert where LeRoy Bell was the opening act. I had never heard him before. I wish he had been the main act. After hearing him I had to get the CD. It is very good!

5 out of 5 stars Right where he belongs.......2006-10-28

I never heard of him before, but the geniuses that figured out this marketing system really pulled this one out for me. This CD is one of the best singer/songwriter CD's of the year, no doubt. Very listenable in that you can hear his lyric and get "caught" by the melody. "Voodoo" sounds like he wrote it for Carlos Santana and he gives it that feel.

The lyric will touch you and inspire. "20 years from now" is so on the money, I have trouble holding it together cause he is so true. He's been there with all of us and he right where he belongs.

4 out of 5 stars Good not great.......2006-07-30

This cd is growing on me. However, Bell sometimes too much like Seal for me. But his writing is excellent. Sometimes political, mostly quite intimate and personal.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Modern "Classic".......2004-10-20

I won't go into detail about James and his long blues history as the previous reviewer has done an outstanding job doing just that. I have just about everything James has recorded since "Thank You Baby", and "Two Sides" is my favorite. Brilliant toungue and cheek lyrics that always go deeper than their surface. "The Clown" and "My Little Girl" are modern classics. James vocals' always seem effortless, but are truly amazing upon repeated listens. The "Napkin's" sessions are great stuff, but this is James best concept album. Thank you, baby!!

4 out of 5 stars ....velvet Elvis paintings and Miami loafers...........2000-07-04

This was the first James Harman CD I ever listened to, and from the wailing blues-harp intro to "My Little Girl" I was hooked - and that was before I heard the soulful, understated vocal delivery and some of the hippest modern blues songwriting you're ever likely to hear.

Harman's records aren't about producing versions of his favourite blues songs from his collection of scratchy old blues LP's - his personal trip seems to be all about creating a original, valid means of blues expression - when so much of the other recent stuff about just seems like affectation and plagarism. And most importantly, he backs the message with a monstrous groove: few bands as tight as the James Harman Band, and so few bands nowdays like them seem to understand that the secret to this music is not the notes you play, but the ones you leave out.

In short, this is a wonderful blues and rhythm & blues album, perhaps his best if only "Do Not Disturb" wasn't so fine. There's wry comedy in "The Clown", a horn-led swinging take on short-term relationships with "If the Shoe Fits", one-of-a-kind jivin' in "Tall Skinny Mama" and acute observation with the title track. Everything a blues album should be about.

Harman's influences can be heard in the Fabulous Thunderbirds (most of the current line-up are ex-JHB alumni), Gary Primich, the Red Devils/Thirteen (the late Lester Butler was quoted as saying that James was the only blues act he'd bother to catch), the Hollywood Fats Band and countless others who try to capture this effortlessly-swinging West Coast blues sound.

There are very few rock bands left. Take these few bands and weed-out gimmicks and/or corporate silliness. Who's left? Many would say no one, but many are unaware of The Newz.

Rock is not contingent on instrumentalization. Rock is not an image or an attitude or even a specific sound. Rock is the presence of energy, it is music with evidence of a soul. It is music that takes a life of it's own without being crutched by any marketing schemes, gimmicks, or images. I am pleased to say that The Newz rock.

5 out of 5 stars This is a great CD........2000-04-21

I think this is a wonderful CD. The music is great, the lyrics are quite articulate and it makes me happy.

5 out of 5 stars My side of the story.......2000-03-08

"I like the nightlife", my favorite track on this cd, is a dirty, grungy sounding song that makes me want to dress in black leather and prowl the streets till the sun comes up. Other songs have more of a sparkling quality that have you on the edge of your seat, letting the melody warm you like a spring breeze. At times guitarist Stanley rips out Eric-Johnsonesque Guitar notes...if you have never heard a talking guitar then you must buy this cd.

All original music is packed with lyrics that ARE worth listening to...one can easily imagine "Sister Make-Up" really challenging the self-image of a young teen--(hey kids, get real.)

In all, the craftsmanship of these experienced musicians shows, and their passion for music makes listening to this cd a very rewarding experience.
