Product Description
The Red Button is made up of Los Angeles-based singer-songwriters Seth Swirsky and Mike Ruekberg. Ruekberg's indie credentials are rock solid as writer and singer for beloved Minneapolis-based pop-rockers Rex Daisy and wrote the soundtrack for an underachieving but beloved indie film (Dummy, starring Adrien Brody). Swirsky's legitimate music credentials are impressive: He's written hit songs for dozens of artists, ranging from Al Green to Tina Turner to Taylor Dayne. (He's also written three hugely successful books about baseball!) The two met in 2004, when Seth was recording his first solo album, Instant Pleasure (which went on to win Best Pop Album at the 2005 Los Angeles Music Awards). They shared one passion above all: A love of concise, melodic pop songs. She's About to Cross My Mind is the result of that meeting: eleven pop songs created, says Goldmine Magazine, the way God and Paul McCartney must have intended. Amplifier Magazine and International Pop Overthrow Music Festival founder David Bash says Swirsky and Ruekberg can now wear their rightful crown as the Peter Holsapple/Chris Stamey of the New Millennium .

Pure pop perfection.......2007-07-06
I've always thought there are two kinds of songs that stick in your head: those that stick like chewing gum on the bottom of your shoe (Barry Manilow songs and the Leave it to Beaver theme song), and those that stick like the memory of your first kiss (early Beatles, Buddy Holly, Lovin' Spoonful). The ability to produce the second kind is one of the rarest and most valuable gifts in music, and one that has been in very short supply for the past 30 years. She's About to Cross My Mind Again is the happy exception. The whole CD is full of cheerful melodies and skipping beats of a kind not heard since Merseybeat was the big thing. But be warned: these songs are seriously addictive. If you listen to "Can't Stop Thinking About Her" just once, the song will take over your mind for the rest of the day. You will forget about your job and your children, and you won't know--or care--where you are. You'll find yourself walking to the rhythm, rocking back and forth and grinning like an idiot as the song runs on an endless loop through your head. You'll find it hard to have a conversation with anyone else because all you want to do is burst out singing the chorus. The one consolation is that you'll be as happy as a person can be. There's no way you listen to these songs and be anything but giddy.
The lyrics are as sunny and light as the melodies, exactly as they should be in this kind of music. It is blissfully free of attitude, too. No mid-tempo, monotone, mumbled slacker songs anywhere in sight, thank god. Just youthful joy and the miracle of a perfect three-minute single.
modern-day version of a 60s band - for those of us who miss the 60s!.......2007-07-01
carefree & whimsical, she's about to cross my mind is reminiscent of the monkeys, the beatles and the beach boys. play this music to set your mood-ring to happy-go-lucky fun, on your way to work or while you cruise the streets of venice beach in your stylin' VW van.
Original and familiar.......2007-05-29
This is a wonderful CD. The sound is familiar - it reminds me of many other groups that I have loved through the years, but at the same time, I feel it is entirely original. I look forward to more music from these wonderful musicians.
Blast of 60's POP.......2007-04-08
Shades of the Lovin' Spoonful, Beatles, Knickerbockers, assorted 60's garage sounds and swingin' London sounds permeate this disc. If the samples are enough to pique your interest, then by all means make the purchase now! Most of the songs are between 2-3 minutes long, perfect for yesteryear's AM radio format. They would fit right into today's 'oldies' radio station playlists, and nobody would be the wiser. Standout tracks: all of them! The Red Button Rules!!
What a "real" record is.......2007-04-06
Retro and clean. That is the immediate reaction upon hearing this record on a whole. Make no mistake, this is no special single or group of tracks, it is an ALBUM: 11 songs each with their own fingerprint and message, coming together to form one giant cornucopia of unique melodic mayhem. By accident, the first track I heard from this album was "Can't Stop Thinking About Her" because my CD player was having issues. The irony is that all of the songs blend together in sort of a dreamy almost happily defiant mission.
This is clearly a packaged deal, from the girl on the cover of the album to the tamborine that inhabits the disc itself. The Red Button is very self aware and knows what it is, a time machine offering a blueprint of lyrical sass and energy to future artists intent on tackling the 60's musical revolution.
Very impressed with the songwriting and drums on selected tracks by Monty DeCarlo, its a gathering of talent that is hard to ignore. I love these types of bands because you get the feeling that every decision made by the group was in response to the MUSIC and not the PEOPLE. Too often, songs these days are written for what is assumed people want, and not for the message itself. Calculated and rewarding, tracks like "Gonna Make You Mine" and "Free" are examples of singles you would be hard pressed not to smile at. I'm not much of a 'review' guy, but perhaps the best compliment I can give is that I wanted to talk about it. Its personal I'm sure for the artists, and an experience for listeners like me.

I keep replaying the single album over and over again.......2006-12-31
I watched AI 4 just recently. I loved it so much so that I ordered both the Stoppover cd and the American Red Cross Disaster Relief single. I keep playing the single over and over again. The harmony of the finalists different voices is very soothing and makes me feel nostalgic that Season 4 is over. I wish we can have another album of this kind in the next AI seasons to come.
When you tell me that you love me.......2006-03-25
The only song I liked on the CD is the title song, the CD is just "alright" for me. I enjoyed watching them sing it on TV more and I liked the TV song version better also.
Enjoyable..........2005-12-10
This is an enjoyable 3 song single to listen to in the car. "He Ain't Heavy, He's my Brother" is probably the best track. The standout voices are Constantine, Carrie, Bo and Vonzell. If you are a fan of any of those 4, purchase this single!
It's nice!.......2005-11-20
All 3 songs are nice, especially When You Tell Me That You Love Me and Everything is Beautiful. Everything is Beautiful is my favourite and the top 12 of season 4 did a fantastic job in all 3 songs. They got voices, and they are talented. They are awesome!
AI season 4 single.......2005-10-07
The album was worth every penny. The quality is excellant and the choice of songs are perfect. I also feel good about helping the AI's to help others. I also so enjoyed AI4 so much I felt like I should return the favor.

A Stunning Record.......2002-02-09
This was the first studio album I heard by Christopher Cross since his 1982 release "Another Page". I lost track of him after that. In 2000, I saw him in concert, looking forward to hearing the old hits from the 80's but came away in astonishment over his more recent recordings including the ones on this album. Saying it's an amazing record doesn't even come close to giving it the praise it deserves. Every track sounds like a hit song to me. The production is outstanding ... you can tell that a lot of effort was put into making this a high quality record. Instead of "Red Room", a more appropriate name is Greatest Hits Volume 2. I think it's better than his debut album. After hearing this, I bought the rest of his catalog and have been in heaven ever since! You will not be disappointed! Some upbeat tracks, some soul searching ones, and some just plain fun, all the songs are fantastic. His guitar work is superb and his vocals are just as beautiful as they were 20 years ago. Christopher never lost his magical touch.
Topnotch music.......2001-06-02
A splendid album from Christopher Cross with a wide range of material beautifully performed with intriguing arrangements. Cross is still suffering from the sin of making one of the most honored debut albums in history but has sailed on through the years turning out excellent album after excellent album. He's lyrical, musical, intelligent and an original. Each new album is a great surprise and he never varies from top quality. This album originally appeared as part of the double-C.D. set "Walking in Avalon."

Customer Reviews:
Blind John Death.......2005-10-12
I could easily see giving this less than 5 stars. Compared to the brilliance of his earlier work, this pales. But if you're reading this review, you're more than a casual John Fahey listener, so I have to say, you need this disk. This was recorded by a man who was dying and knew it, and that's exactly how it sounds. The music is poignant, melancholy, and occasionally frightening. The title track, especially, is harrowing. Fahey's guitar sounds like it's caught in one of Brian Eno's tape loops and can't escape. I don't listen to this often, because it's not something you just plop into the CD player on a whim. It reminds me of a Tom Waits album. This is serious stuff.
beautiful all around.......2005-10-09
superbly packaged last album from the late John fahey. a true guitar innovator and genius player. this disc is worth it alone for John's haunting renditions of "Remember" and "Summertime."
Fahey's Last Will and Testament.......2003-12-15
John Fahey died in March of 2001. Alas, there will be no new eccentric American Primitive Guitar compositions from him.
Released posthumously, 'Red Cross' is a significant recording to all faithful Fahey fans. A collection of seven tracks (eight if you count the brief reprise of 'Red Cross' buried at the end) recorded in the last months of his life that reach back and touch the previous sixty-odd years of it.
Fahey meticulously picks through Irving Berlin's 'Remember' with eerily concentrated effort. Next up, `Red Cross, Disciple of Christ Today' is an example of Fahey's more esoteric `modernist' compositions. In Track 3 he plays Gershwin's 'Summertime' with the bittersweet memories of an old man for the summertime of his Life. `Ananaias' (Track Four) is revisits Fahey's explorations up and down the musical scale. He follows it with a quite spirited rendition of 'Motherless Child'. After reading Glenn Jones' liner notes to 'Red Cross' and Fahey's book of 'stories', How Bluegrass Music Destroyed My Life, I can feel the pain and the reasoning behind the choice of this song on this final album. Jones tell us how he struggled(as I also did) to reconcile Fahey the human being with the image of Fahey the music-preservationist, composer, patron, and performer.
A Fahey album wouldn't be complete without a train song, and Track 6, `Charley Bradley's Ten Sixty-Six Blues' is a fine one. `Untitled with Rain' (Track Seven) is a good example of his `wall of sonic angst' phase, if you like that sort of thing. It mixes a heartbeat-like bass with long, funereal organ chords and Fahey's atonal pluckings and inevitable environmental background sound-this time of falling rain, as if Fahey called up some divine intervention to bless his work. There's an abrupt silence for ten minutes, followed by a brief, ghostly reprise of `Red Cross, Disciple of Christ Today'.
It's a sad thing that he is dead. His last gift to us may be only seven and a half songs long, but Fahey's determinedly haunting finger-picking and ominous choice of compositions gives us plenty of time to listen and reflect on what truly significant contributions to music and be thankful he made them.
The end of a unique adventure ?.......2003-03-01
Who knows what else may be released in time ? For now this remains the last we will hear of John Fahey. The man was sui generis; so too the music. This recording is similar to, and I think as enjoyable as HITOMI. And I think it is better than GEORGIA STOMPS. Fahey always liked to play REMEMBER, and here is his best version. I think SUMMERTIME is his best version of this piece too. If you like early Fahey, but feel less assured about his latter style, this recording may well convince you that there are rich rewards right to the end. Bless you John, you old rascal.
America Primitive Coda.......2003-02-17
Long live American Primitive Guitar! I admit to loving Fahey's earlier work from 1959 through his LP "Of Rivers and Religion" and avoiding his more recent work especially the 'wall of sonic angst' music, but this album is worth hearing the old master's final work. Great renditons of Irving Berlin's 'Remember' and the Gershwin brothers' "Summertime". The somber guitar 'reverbed (?)' in the title cut, "Red Cross, Disciple of Christ Today" is brooding enough to make anyone who loved his earlier work happy with the Fahey imagination towards his last days. The CD package has inside a wonderful tribute by Glenn Jones printed as an early Christian pamphlet. ... The total CD timing is listed as 60 minutes but track 7 is only recorded for half of the listed 27 minutes. Buy the CD.

An outstanding CD of Miklos Rozsa film music.......2005-09-28
This CD is the real deal, the authentic music from Rozsa's movie scores delivered by an unnamed orchestra with the composer at the helm. The first half is recorded in stereo and recorded in Los Angeles in 1962. The back half is in excellent mono and recorded in Europe in 1952.
While many listeners have heard the Roman marches from "Ben Hur" and "Quo Vadis" as well as the music from "Spellbound" by watching the films themselves, I would draw your attention to the outstanding music herein from "El Cid" and "The Red House", two movies I have never seen.
The three selections from "El Cid" -- Overture, Love Theme and the outstanding El Cid March -- comprise an organic entity boiling over in Spanish flavor. The four selections from "The Red House" -- Prelude, Screams In The Night, The Oxhead Woods and the very disturbing Retribution -- do even more to create an atmospheric thriller in good mono right there on your home or car stereo! The addition of a wobbly female voice in "Screams of the Night" section adds suspense and aura to this already highly effective thriller coming from your equipment.
I'd say this music has to be heard in its entirety to be believed. It eschews the common failings of film music and in effect creates a suite from each movie that rivals, even betters, well known classical music suites. These are impassioned, thrilling, highly fulfilling performances that must be considered authoritative given the leadership of the composer.
The one small drawback to this issue are the scanty two page notes about Rozsa and his role in Hollywood. Still, it is the music you want to hear and the music on this CD is glorious beyond glory. On the evidence of this issue, there is no question Rozsa ranks up there with Bernard Herrmann as the best writers for film in the 20th century.
Discover Rozsa's Great Film Scores.......2002-01-18
When film lovers talk about classic film scores, they normally speak of Hermann, Waxman, Steiner, and a few others. It's too bad Rozsa's name is not mentioned more, because he was truly one of the greatest composers of film music. Rozsa was a master of creating excitement and tension in his scores, even if excitement and tension were lacking in the films themselves! I have never seen 'The Red House,' but I'd see it in a minute after hearing the soundtrack represented here. A nice look at a forgotten film great and his music.
Rozsa's Brilliant Score to Epic Films.......2000-06-29
The scores on this CD are beautiful and grand, matching the expanse of the movies they were ment to score. Written in the Golden Age of Film Scores which helped inspire modern film score composers such as John Williams.

The best thing about this album is that it captures the energy of her live performances. I would definitely recommend this album to anyone who enjoys strong female vocals, great songwriting, and smooth guitar playing!
