About the Artist
In his adventurous, outdoor life, Grady Keystone has developed a love for the natural world. Working as a river guide, he came to appreciate the mountains and deserts of the West. Now he works as an ocean kayak guide and has befriended the Humpback Whales and dolphins of the Hawaiian Pacific. His original music is an expression of love for nature and a call to protect our beautiful world.

Album Description
Hawaiian Moon is a celebration of the beauty of Hawaii and the joys of Hawaiian living. The 13 original songs have an island style. There are songs for and about some of Grady's larger friends, the 50 ton Humpback whales and the dolphins. Two songs in particular point out our need to protect their ocean environment.

Amazon.com essential recording

In Pahinui's hands, slack key guitar is eloquent, original, and virtuosic. Night Moon, his third release on Dancing Cat Records, is his most polished yet. He offers effortless chops, peppering each piece--vocal and instrumental alike--with a broad vocabulary of intricate motives and well-handled dynamics. Singing in a lazy melancholy tenor-baritone, with an impressive falsetto, his voice is the perfect juxtaposition for his active, expressive playing. Pahinui has recorded prolifically since the late '60s when he appeared on several albums with his father, the late Gabby Pahinui (Hawaii's best known and most influential slack key guitarist). Pahinui is ecstatically at play on "Hurrah Lani Ha'a Ha'a," which sounds distinctly country, and features some of his most deftly crafted fretwork. Listen to the subtle harmonies of "Hawaiian Cowboy," and the halted urgency of "Po Mahina," and you'll put this guy up against any fingerstylist around. Night Moon is a great buy for guitar enthusiasts. --Daniel Ferris

5 out of 5 stars A chip off da ole block.......2000-04-16

Anyone who has discovered, and is collecting, Hawaiian slack key discs will certainly want to add this one to the shelf. I was introduced to this musical style by way of a cassette by Cyril's father Gabby--purchased at a gas station for playing in my rental car while on a trip to the big island. Perhaps more than any of the other Dancing Cat CDs in this series, this one evokes memories of Gabby, although with a much more polished style. Son Cyril even pays homage to his father by performing Hi'ilawe, probably Gabby's best known hit. The combination of vocals and instrumentals strikes a nice balance, there are no clunker tracks (meaning, for me, that all have Hawaiian lyrics and sound), and there is a good blend of old and new. Some of the tracks are rather dreamlike; this is mellow music, much more so than some of the Dancing Cat series. My other favorite contemporary slack key vocal/instrumental combo discs are "Ohana (Family)" by Dennis and David Kamakahi (which unfortunately includes a clunker track, "Around the World in 80 Days") and "Drenched by Music" by George Kahumoku. For an all-instrumental disc, try "The Gift" by Moses Kahumoku. For a real treat, delve into the earlier recordings by Gabby Pahinui and the Sons of Hawaii. They tend to be more upbeat, and the sound of a small band and multiple vocalists is a nice contrast to the slack key guitar soloists.

Product Description

Very rarely does an album garner the excitement and anticipation that has been surrounding Go Jimmy Go's third release, "Fishbowl Eyes" - and then live up to its hype. Through a beautifully crafted collaboration of soulful vocals, slick horns, and tight rhythm section, Go Jimmy Go has created an album for lovers of music, not exclusive to any genre. The album is a true representation of what it means to be Hawaiian, and the spirit that lives on through one of the islands most famous and successful bands.

5 out of 5 stars Absloutely Amazing.......2006-09-19

This is a masterpiece of ska/reggae blended music. The recording quality is amazing compared to their first two albums and their musicianship has seen tons of improvements. The harmonies especially put this over the top. Every time I listen to it, it makes me smile and move. This cd puts them into my top 5 traditional ska bands along side The Slackers and Hepcat. Get this cd- 14 amazing tracks, all of them great.

4 out of 5 stars The Girl With The Fishbowl Eyes.......2006-02-24

Recently got back from holiday in Hawaii & bought this CD as we heard them on the radio whilst out there cruising in the hire car. The tunes are really happy and have that Hawaiian feel to them. We particularly like the album because it reminds us of our holiday. If you like SKA then you will like this album.

5 out of 5 stars You can't go wrong with Go Jimmy Go!!.......2005-08-25

I own all three of Go Jimmy Go's CDs, and just like the other two, Fishbowl Eyes brings the Aloha and feel-good music I was waiting for. Fishbowl Eyes also gives off the overwhelmingly awesome vibe I feel at thier shows. This CD rocks!!

5 out of 5 stars Great release from Hawaii's best band.......2005-07-14

Once again, Go Jimmy Go has outdone themselves with 13 solid tracks of ska, rocksteady, reggae and soul goodness (Track #1, "Radio GJG" is more of a remix of various songs which follows the musical history of the band's various members).

A little lighter on ska than in previous albums, "The Girl with the Fishbowl Eyes" features terrific reggae and soul grooves which highlight the maturity GJG's songwriting and arrangements. Some of the standout tracks include what is sure to be a classic ska cut "The Governor's Daughter", the laid back reggae of "Open the Door", more romantic ska stylings with "'Til You Get There", the Jimmy Cliff-esque soul of "Every Road I'm On" which to me harkins back to "Many Rivers to Cross" from the "The Harder They Come" soundtrack.

The remake of the previously limited release song "Set Me Free" is tight, but somewhat lacking in punch due to the horns being very undermixed in the latter part of the song.

The title track "Fishbowl Eyes" is a fun blend of Hawaiian style music and Jamaican Bluebeat that is destined to be a crowd favorite, featuring Ian Ashley in a quirky and rare vocal lead.

The re-make of the GJG original "In-between Times" is good, but a bit unnecessary as the original recording on "Soul Arrival" was excellent and very hard to top.

"Don't Be So Cruel" is a smoking ska/soul number which will get get your feet moving and is certain to be a favorite amongst the mod and traditional skin scene.

Overall a great album and a must buy for not only ska and reggae fans, but for lovers of all types music that gets you in a positive groove. By far GJG's most solid and consistant release to date.

5 out of 5 stars Yes!.......2005-07-10

I heard about this CD "the girl with the fishbowl eyes" by Go Jimmy Go through a friend, let me tell ya I couldn't have made a better purchase. Found myself instantly singing along with the tunes of Go Jimmy Go. I'm definetly going to check out their other 2 CDs. Definetly buy this one if you are heading out on a road trip this summer or during a party its bound to get some people moving.

Album Description

He comes together on this records, his first solo offering at 96, with a group of young musicians known as The Essential Resophonics. The combination of steel guitar, double bass, Spanish guitar and ukulele covers some of Tapia's favorite standards in their respective genre. These recordings, which occured on two days in Feb. of 2002, represent a photograph of a piece of musical history. The portrait is completed with two historic recordings from 1936: Tropical Swing and Stars and Stripes.

5 out of 5 stars Hawaiian Music Done Right.......2007-01-19

The star rating of this CD is misleading...this is a phenomenal album from a ukelele legend (hard to believe that this guy is almost 100!!!)I actually stumbled upon this CD while browsing the tropical music section of Border's in anticipation of a trip to Hawaii. I scanned it and immediately purchased it. Every song on this CD is lazy, relaxing tropical swing (think hawaiian with a little bounce to it). He tackles old jazz standards (Mood Indigo and Mack the Knife) among others and makes every song his own. The production is very good, and the musicianship is top-notch. If this CD doesn't magically transport you to the islands every time you put it on, then you oughta check your speakers. HIGHLY recommended!

4 out of 5 stars Incredible Uke Man.......2005-09-27

This album is a gorgeous mix of music performed by what I would deem a National Treasure. I saw this man play live this year (2005) and he can even make the uke strings sound like a drum! Fans of Hawaiiana, uke music, or vaudeville will all enjoy this album.

5 out of 5 stars The best group in Hawai'i.......2004-04-25

The Makaha Sons are the best Hawai'i has to offer. Their genre is traditional Hawaiian, mostly sung in Hawaiian. Their specialty and trademark is three-part harmonies that are as smooth as silk. They have great voices individually with John Koko singing lead vocals and he plays an astounding standup bass; Jerry Koko (John's older brother) sings falsetto tenor and plays 12-string guitar and Louis "Moon" Kauakahi on 6-string guitar and the part that fills in the rest of the harmony. Their arrangements are complex and difficult with a lot of key changes that they execute flawlessly. This is one of their better CDs. The Sons have been playing music for almost 30 years with very minimal pesonnel changes. This is part of why they are so smooth.

The friends that join them on this CD are Jerry Santos from Olomana, the late Dennis Pavao who sang with Hui Ohana for many years, and Nina Keali'iwahamana to name a few.

There is an interesting mix of music -- some old and some new. I have every CD and vinyl album the Makaha Sons and Makaha Sons of Ni'ihau (with Israel Kamakawiwo'ole) have recorded since 1976. This CD is an excellent compilation.

Album Description

'Ukulele legend Bill Tapia is unstoppable. After celebrating a rousing kanikapila-style 97th birthday party on New Year's Day 2005, he prepared to return home to Honolulu to release this new CD, the diverse 'ukulele driven masterpiece, "Duke of Uke." Expect "uniquely Bill" interpretations of some famous standards and Hawaiian tunes.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Listening to a Legend.......2007-07-13

Bring home a piece of history... Bill Tapia, ukulele legend, will celebrate his 100th birthday this November. You'd think a century would slow someone down, especially inhibit their ability to play an instrument with agility. Well, don't be fooled by Tapia. He plays like a 20-year-old, and his songs are full of life. If you're interested in Hawaiian/ukulele music, or saw the PBS documentary on Tapia's life, this is a definite must for your collection. And, if you get a chance, check him out in concert. I just saw him recently and his stories are so entertaining. They say he's got a million stories to tell since he's met and seen pretty much everyone and everything, and he shares some of them between songs. He'll have you laughing and smiling and tapping your feet!

1 out of 5 stars Duke of Uke - Bill Tapia.......2005-08-20

I enjoyed this because of my many trips to HA and seeing Bill Tapia on PBS TV (KCET in L.A.). For those who have not traveled to HA or saw this TV program, this may have not interest to them.
