I've had this cd for about 7 years now and every now and then pull it out for a listen and each time I leave with a new song that I feel is the best and a need to search out a few cds from the artist who cover them . The last time was about a month ago and it hasn't been out of my car since. "You Can't Always Get What You Want"...brilliant. "Sway"...unforgettable. "Beast of Burdon"...outstanding. This last time has been "Ventilator Blues" by the late Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown.

I don't like to say that these guys did the Rolling Stones better than Mick and the gang, but on these songs...they did.

On this CD premier blues men like Luther Allison, Junior Wells, Johnny Copeland, Holmes Brothers and Taj Mahal cover some of the Best Rolling Stones Classics and adds it a twist of Blues. The first song on the CD seems to be the absolute best and the most refreshing - Luther Allisons version of the 1969 hit "You Can't Always Get What You Want". Sadly this version came to be Luthers Last studio recording ever, recorded short before his sudden death i 1997 - But truely at the Peak of his career.
An Overall great CD, worth buying for Luther Allison it self!

Ok. Just think about this....

Stones? Blues? Rock 'n' Roll? What else do you need? Exactly, a nice beer and you are set. Enjoy this cd forever. It makes the blues and rock and country come together like never before. "You Can't Always Get What You Want" is simply the best rendition of any song that I have ever heard. Unfortunatly I only have enough money to buy 1 for a present or else I would buy a thousand to give to everyone. It's perfect. As a Music Educator, a Music Theorist, and a Composer, this is the finest CD that one could ever buy. Enjoy!

Some of the songs are done better than the originals (Sway, Moonlight Mile, Ventilator Blues). This cd is a must have for a Stones fan. Albert Collins? Johnny Copeland, Gatemouth Brown? It don't get no better! The Stones must have been truly flattered.

This is just a note for all the Stones fans who don't get the blues, or even the Stones, for that matter. Love in Vain IS a blues song, written by Robert Johnson. The Stones covered it (briliantly I might add), but they didn't write it. And the artists on this album already have well developed styles of their own. Real artists take something from someone else and make it their own, exactly as the Stones did with blues tunes. The complaints below might sound more valid if they were also complaining that the Stones cover of Love in Vain didn't sound the way Robert Johnson did it.

The band says it all. Nils Landgren FUNK UNIT. United to funk. Nils Landgren (THE MAN) on trombone. Esbjörn Svensson on Rhodes. It has to groove. And it does. Real world-class-funky-stuff-thingy.

I entirely agree with the other reviewers, this is is a top notch production - jazz funk at it's best, and this is an understatement. Let me tell you a little anecdote: I was working in Sweden for a few days and my hotel was not far from the main train station to the airport in the downtown area. Well, having just arrived I ventured to the next CD shop trying to locate a CD by Nils Landgren.In a shop close to my hotel I talked to a guy of whom I thought he may know something about this type of music - and guess what: it didn't klick at first but it was Magnum Coltrane Price,the N.L. Funk unit bass guitar player. Wow. In any case, I got to hear the N.L. funk unit live that evening and it was magic (understatement again). Thanks to a great band. --- Back to the case: The CD captures thruthfully the spirit of the live performance, and if you really like funk jazz - this is it, and it is as good as it gets. Enjoy.

I have 3 Cannonball Adderley cd's and also purchased 3 tribute albums (Cannonball: funky soul music, Eric Marienthal: walk tall) and this not only pays tribute but goes beyond and adds to it in a funkier way (i am sure Cannonball not only approves (from jazz-funk heaven) but enjoys the direction they gave his music. Some of Nils own compositions like Mother Fonk sound like maybe he was chanelling the master's own playing into it! If anyone reads this and knows of other tribute albums or artists who have that Jazz-Funk lineage, please e-mail and recommend. Thanks!

This album is one of the greatest album that I ever heard. I heard Nisse Landgren and the Funk Unit live this summer, and they play many songs from the record, and he was great. If you wanne hear som great Swedish funkjazzy musicians you should buy this one. I think that the Funk Unit is one of the greatest artist in Sweden, he played with Maceo Parker once. I can also recomend the live album from Montreux, it's great and Magnum is so cool.

All right guys... Stop everything!!! If you don't have this CD, I guess you are missing something really good. I saw Nils Landgren in february 99 at the Jazz pizza express in London and it was great!! Just listen to the introduction of the first track 'walk tall' and you will be addicted to Landgren's groove for a long time... If one day I have to go on a desert island for a while, I am sure that 'paint it blue' will be one of the 5 CDs I'll take along with me. As for the four others... I don't know yet (but surely one of Georges Brassens')

A search for Deep Purple's "Smoke on [in] the water," brought up this title. I rate it only #1 because I could not locate the "Smoke on the Water" listing. Amazon seems to be having an indexing problem.

      Wonderful cd that is part of a 4 part set "Music To Paint By". Electric Blue has a jazz feel to it, I'm continually amazed by Mr. Keaggy's guitar playing! This set is great for listening to at work. Also check out Keaggy's latest "Premium Jams" cd. wwww.philkeaggy.com

      I have not heard the CD. Or have I. I played many gigs with EB as the drummer in pollen. Blue was our "big brother" band. We looked up to 'em. Still do. If their album is as good as I remember them then your in for a helluva ride. Rock on boys. Buy this damn CD! You won't regret it...
