Product Description
Like a surreal Norman Rockwell painting come to life, Antsy McClain is the embodiment of the small-town, blue-collar life he experienced growing up in a little Kentucky trailer park called Pine View Heights and reared by a truck driving father and an Avon selling mother. Trailercana features guest appearances from Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac, Bobby Cochran of Steppenwolf, Tommy Smothers, and Bonnie Bramlett. A glimpse of song titles from Trailercana offers a tantalizing look into McClains wry blend of humor and emotional depth. He serves up an ode to pseudo-celebrity in Ron Howards Brother and revels in the irony of I Was Just Flipped Off By A Silver Haired Old Lady. Mix in songs like Cubic Zerconium In The Rough, Joan of Arkansas, KOA Refugee and Prozac Made Me Stay, and its obvious that McClain has a slightly skewered view of life in the U.S. of A. He infused the album with the rootsy, muscular blend of rock and roll that has become his trademark. Wildly independent and fiercely creative, Antsy McClain is staking his claim on pop culture. His plot may not be huge, but hes mining it deep, uncovering little musical gems for Trailercana.
Customer Reviews:
extraordinary.......2007-07-15
Antsy is an extraordinary song writer and performer. There is a wit and honesty in the music that is unique in the music business.
Clever lyrics by, for and about real people..........2007-07-07
This cd is worth buying for song titles alone: Living in Aluminum, Prozac Made Me Stay, Ron Howard's Brother, A Cubic Zirconium in the Rough and I Married Up, plus the clincher I Was Just Flipped Off by a Silver-Haired Old Lady.
The lyrics more than live up to the song titles, and in addition to their hilarity, Antsy McClain has a technically good voice down to a good growl or two. You can clearly understand every word he sings. Harmonizing vocals are just right...the guest artists are a pleasant surprise and the range of musical styles from folkabilly to reggae to Buffettesque country and pop make for an interesting and varied selection of songs. Falling in Love in America is one of the best pop songs I've ever heard. There are butt-kicking horn arrangments, and hey, Antsy certainly has his own unique look. Who knew Rave was such a great hair-care product?
Trailercana is a bold and clever concept cd--by, for and about real people, a light-hearted reminder that most of us are one or two generations removed from blue collar roots and that is nothing to be ashamed of.
It's a hoot!!!.......2007-06-28
It is laugh out loud fun, complete with lots of talented players. The words are understandable and often come to mind to create a private, funny moment that no one else understands.
I hope I can see a live performance soon.
Humorous, intelligent folk-country-soul.......2007-06-18
The Kentucky bred McClain has made a career out of this trailer-park upbringing, blending clever humor and wry social observations with enticing country soul music. There's a hint of Rodney Crowell's wordiness in these sixteen tracks that combines nicely with a touch of Kinky Friedman's irreverence. McClain's satire can be both whimsical and poignant, which might suggest country antecedents like Sheb Wooley or Cledus T. Judd, but he's more of a humorous musician than a musical humorist, clever like Ben Vaughn and Barnaked ladies, with a fine voice filled with the sly good times of Charlie Robison and Jimmy Buffett.
The rocking opener "Living in Aluminum" states McClain's case for contentment without resorting to materialism, "I don't need a house of vinyl / I don't need a house of wood / There ain't no better way to test your mettle / Than in a semi-precious metal neighborhood." McClain expands on personal responsibility in "The Devil Gets More Credit Than He Deserves" (with guest Lindsey Buckingham providing electric guitar) and considers religious hypocrisy in the true-life folk-gospel "I Was Just Flipped Off by a Silver Haired Old Lady With a 'Honk If You Love Jesus' Sticker on the Bumper of Her Car."
McClain sings of escaping into the perfect world of a billboard, the dire consequences of PMS, and the torment of a post-breakup stay at KOA. His sedated "Prozac Made Me Stay" features a guest appearance from Tommy Smothers, and "Full Moon in Pine View Heights" recalls characters from his childhood, including a date who "had eyebrows plucked thinner than a razor's edge / She smelled like popcorn, Quaker State and Lemon Pledge." His ode to "Ron Howard's Brother" returns to the theme of finding satisfaction in one's circumstance, and plays it straight for the album's closer, an evocative poem of America and young love.
This is a surprisingly sophisticated independent release featuring sixteen originals, self-produced with original artwork and graphic design by the singer himself. McClain is an accomplished songwriter whose work should find favor with both country and pop audiences, reviving the storytelling Jim Croce brought to the top of the charts in the 1970s. His band is powerful and plays country-folk-soul with funky touches of horns, organ and electric slide guitar. Someone in the record industry ought to wake up and sign this guy! Yikes! .......2007-06-14
I heard an interview with Antsy on NPR. He interviews very well, and the interviewer played some snippets of this CD, but they were apparently very carefully selected to disguise the overall stink of bad taste this CD emanates when you have the whole package in the house.
The musicianship is fine, if uninspired. But the songs, the lyrics, while they were able to give the radio interviewer a few good seconds to air, those teasers only serve to cast the awfulness of this thing into bold relief. If you are thinking of buying this thing, ask yourself, "What would Jeff Foxworthy say?"

It's like listening to a catfight!.......2005-12-31
Ugh! I'm a big fan of Medieval music, but this has got to be some of the worst singing I've heard on such a CD. I'm guessing the lady was thinking of how, with modern rock music, often the singers will wander from the original melody and rythm a bit. But I stress here A BIT -- that doesn't mean these should be turned into pseudo-rap, or bad poetry. She totally just starts SCREAMING certain songs -- trying maybe to communicate the emotion?
Also (and I noticed in the liner notes that the group often does Middle Easter music) there was a sort of unpleasant Turkish/Indian style to the improv that I didn't like.
My final complaint is that it is a woman singing all these songs -- these songs were meant for men to sing. I don't think the lyrics were even altered to match.
pseudo-"medieval" jollity and little else.......2005-05-07
I'd be the first to admit that this recording of 12th and 13th century troubadour and trouvere songs is probably not aimed at listeners like myself. Yet whilst it would be difficult to deny the enthusiasm and aplomb with which these kitschy and Clemencic-inspired interpretations are delivered - with a kaleidoscopic array of instruments, including some [apparently indispensable] arabic ones - let's not overlook one VERY crucial point here: this recording does NOT EVEN ATTEMPT to present a faithful portrayal of this repertoire. In fact, it flies in the face of ALL recent musicology (see literature by Christopher Page, Elizabeth Aubrey etc...) which leaves little doubt that these songs were performed in one of only two ways: either one unaccompanied singer, or one singer accompanied by one (or two) instrument(s) - principally harp or vielle (although one wind instrument was sometimes used in lower style genres, like the dansa or pastourelle/pastorela). Additionally (!), only certain songs [Low Style - like track 2] were probably sung in a metric fashion, whereas High Style Chansons seem to have been rather more rhapsodic in delivery from start to finish, in complete contrast to how they are presented here [tracks 1, 3, 5, 7, 11, 12]...
But perhaps the performers (and listeners) don't believe this is relevant, or don't even care - after all, it's certainly rather "merrie". Just make sure you realise it's about as "medieval" as Terry Gilliam & Terry Jones's 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail', or John Milius's 1981 film 'Conan the Barbarian' [starring Arnold Schwarzennegger].
Incidentally, if you're interested in hearing some academically and aesthetically more convincing recordings of this repertory, then the following are recommended:
1. 'Dante and the Troubadours', Sequentia/Bagby [DHM 05472 77 227 2]
2. 'Le fou sur le pont' - Bernatz de Vendadorn, Camerata Mediterranea/Cohen [Erato 4509-94B25-2]
3. 'The Spirits of England and France 2 - Songs of the Trouveres', Gothic Voices/Page [Hyperion CDA66773]
Simply outstanding.......2005-05-03
By far the best medieval music album in Naxos. This truly is a delight for senses. What I most enjoy is its wonderful attempt to recreate what a troubadour ambiance would have looked like: Maria Laffite's voice is unvaluable in that respect. Smart choice of songs and a particularly well-directed consort. It seems to me that the first feature that a troubadour album must offer, is for its scope to border on the literary value of the songs. "Music of the Troubadour" truly is a wonderful blend of medieval literature and music.
I TROVATORI.......2004-10-22
Absolutely fascinating, and it goes without saying not much like Verdi. This is an illuminating selection of the music of the troubadours, part vocal part instrumental, dating from the 12th to the 14th centuries. The artists are two groups of specialists, representing it seems slightly different traditions in the performance of the music, but with previous experience of collaborating. Particular care was apparently given to the selection of the vocalist, the final choice being Maria Lafitte of Canso Catalana, a specialist not only in the music of the period but also in the mediaeval romance languages - Provencal and some near congeners - of the poetry we find here.
The performances have a great deal of `presence' and what sounds to me like an air of authority. Maria Lafitte puts her heart and soul into all her contributions, and it should be taken as a compliment when I say that for me there was an odd suggestion of Piaf about her. With one exception, the mildly risqué # 9, all the vocal work is solo work. In # 9 I have to suppose the instrumentalists double as the choristers, since no other credits are given. The instrumental music (comprising about half of the disc) has not advanced at this stage beyond rudimentary harmony consisting of drone basses and percussion effects, but it is strikingly well recorded, particularly as regards parts of the percussion, and the liner note details the precise instruments used. What I would have liked to find in the note is rather more about the choice of instruments - is it specified in the scores or, as I suspect, did the specialist performers prescribe it themselves? As regards the vocal side, the liner note is completely admirable, pitching to an audience of newcomers to this music and packing in a lot of the historical background in a short space. There is also a brief section on the performers, the commentary is given in German and French as well as English, and there is a full text of the poems with English translation.
Oh wondrous Spanish early music!.......2003-09-04
This album is quite possibly my favorite of all that have been put forth by the Ensemble Unicorn. As always, they perform tight, with lots of wonderful improvisation, and the recording itself is excellent. Add in some very WONDERFUL Asturian vocals, and you've got the music that wound up being rewritten into the famed Cantigas de Santa Maria.

A fantastic collection of old favorites.......2006-03-03
This CD is a fantastic collection of old favorites. I'm not a big classic country fan myself but bought this for my folks as my Mom couldn't find Tex Ritter's "Just Beyond the Moon" anywhere. This is the ONLY CD I could find with a copy of that song. Anyway, before passing it on to them, I had a listen and actually quite enjoyed hearing all the old favorites I remember Dad forcing us kids to listen to when he was driving. If you love classic country, you'll love this CD.

Dreamy.......2007-01-01
I've had the recording for a while and I saw her live too. The recording is a nice interpretation of Bach because of the speed of the pieces. I met her after I saw her live in '05 and she is a total doll. Buy it even if you don't like classical cuz it will change your mind.
Remarkable young artist.......2006-07-05
This CD is a stunning debut recording by one of the most gifted young guitarists to appear in some time. Her technical abilities are of the highest level. Anyone that can play the Prelude to the 4th Lute Suite this briskly AND musically is above most criticism. And I have been playing the 4th Lute Suite for thirty years myself.
Now, of course Ana Vidovic has lots of room to grow aesthetically--how could it not be so, as she made this recording before she was twenty years old? For example, the Sonata Romantica suffers a bit from excess impetus. She almost never lets the music breath and in this music, hommage to Schubert as it is, expansiveness is inherent to the style. But let us also praise her choice of repertoire. She has unerringly chosen very fine pieces from the repertoire, which is not always the case. Her Walton Bagatelles are remarkable, showing a panache that we are used to hearing only from Julian Bream, for whom they were written.
One thing that Ana Vidovic has in spades is a real ear for harmonic progression--this is one of the many things that sets this recording apart from many others by those with velocity and fingers and little else.
So, my advice is to purchase this recording. I doubt very much that you will regret it and you will be hearing a lot more from this artist over the years.
Stunning technique, needs much work.......2006-06-25
This performer deserves all the latitude necessary, as she may yet develop into a relevant, insightful, and original interpreter of the music she offers. I truly hope she does not choose to compete with Eliot Fisk in the Indy-500 or the 24-Hours of Le Mans. Based on the samples, I won't be buying this CD as I can program my computer to play just as fast or even faster, and just as clear. Instead, I recommend the Frank Bungarten recording (also available on Amazon). But Ana Vidovic does show a lot of promise, and deserves encouragement.
Best version of the Prelude BWV 1006 for Guitar.......2006-05-21
For anyone following ALL previous versions of Bach's Fourth Lute Suite (Williams, Barrueco, Galbraith, Russell, and a long etc) Vidovic deserves a place of her own. Her playing is superb: it has energy, character, precision and strength enough to deceive anybody ignoring she was barely 19 at the time of the recording. If you do not have this CD buy it now. Bear in mind it is not Sony, or BMG with their outstanding sound engineers, but Vidovic makes up for all that absence. She is part of a new generation of croatian world class virtuosi and in my opinion, a clear step forward in Classical Guitar Playing.
WOW.......2006-04-09
I just got this recording after seeing her live. Ana Vidovic is amazing. Probably one of my favorite players.

In 1965 the honky-tonk pioneer Ernest Tubb became the sixth artist inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. With more than 25 years of recording experience under his belt and legions of fans to his credit, the charismatic Texan had nothing left to prove. That fact didn't stop Tubb and his Troubadours from touring the United States incessantly, playing not concert halls but small clubs. This marvelous double-CD set captures such a night at Seattle's Spanish Castle and is an indispensable slice of country-music history. Boasting impeccable sound quality, it includes a host of Tubb's hits performed by a top-of-the-line band featuring lead guitarist Leon Rhodes and steel wizard Buddy Charlton, not to mention Jack Greene and Cal Smith, future stars in their own right. Tubb's rough-edged but relaxed and easygoing baritone was limited from day one and years of booze and cigarettes didn't help matters, but few were as expressive and genuine--check out "(A Memory) That's All You'll Ever Be to Me" for proof. His magnetic personality shines through whether he's singing his heart out, laughing through the lyrics, or chatting with the band and audience. Meanwhile, the Troubadours float from blistering hardcore tonk to jazz tunes like Duke Ellington's "C Jam Blues" with ease. --Marc Greilsamer
Album Description
This historic recording is the only true live recording of Ernest Tubb and his Texas Troubadours. Recorded in 1965 by Texas Troubadour Jan Kurtis, the sound quality is absolutely phenomenal. This 2 CD set captures the feeling of actually sitting in the audience during one of Ernest's shows. Members of the Texas Troubadours are also featured here with performances by Cal Smith, Jack Greene and a drum solo by Jan Kurtis the only known drum solo ever recorded in a country CD. In the words of Ernest's son Justin, "If you close your eyes and listen to this album, you can recapture the feeling of actually sitting in the audience. If you never saw him, this is the next best thing. And to me, "In Person" was the only way to appreciate Ernest Tubb."
Customer Reviews:
Wonderful postcard from 1965.......2005-11-27
When Ernest Tubb and the Texas Troubadours rolled their tour bus into Tacoma, Washington in 1965, former Troubadour drummer Jan Kurtis was there to record the show. The result is a wonderful un-retouched snap shot of Tubb's live show. Tubb is thoroughly relaxed, taking requests, laughing at blown solos, dedicating songs to people in the audience. During one number a flashbulb in an audience member's camera audibly explodes and Tubb starts laughing about how he thought it was a jealous husband from their previous stop after guitarist Leon Rhodes. ("And if I was scared, think about how Leon felt!"). The Troubadours, led by Rhodes and steel guitarist Buddy Charlton are in fine form. After years of smoking Tubb's voice is sepulchral, but who cares? Remarkably fine sound quality.
Let's all Walk that Floor one more time!.......2002-07-28
This is a fine performance by a country legend. The interactions with the audience and band are great , and the quality is very good. If you buy one ET record, get this. Only negative is that it doesn't have " Waltz across Texas"
ERNEST TUBB - THE COMPLETE 1965 SHOW.......1999-12-17
Wow! Don't miss out on this one. Absolutely terrific from beginning to end. "Blue Eyed Elaine " is worth the price of the CD by itself.

This award-winning disc deserves credit not only for its excellent performances, but also for its success in creating atmosphere. From the disc's first sounds--cittern, flute, and harp--we know we've left the 20th century far behind and we've entered a mysterious and fascinating place. The place is the world of the 12th century, the time of the Crusades and of the exploits of Richard the Lion-Hearted, duke of Aquitaine, and king of England. The songs are about courtly love, longing for lovers left behind, and, in one remarkable song by Richard himself, about the despair and desolation he experienced as a prisoner. There also is a long, impassioned song in which the singer expresses his undying devotion: "Never will my heart leave you as long as I live." Songs are performed by a variety of first-rate singers, and are interspersed with lively instrumental selections. --David Vernier

Fantastic!.......2006-11-04
Probably the best troubadour/trouvere disc that I've heard. Stirring vocal work and authentic instrumentation invoke the spirit of the 12th & 13th centuries perfectly. Includes a great rendition of King Richard's 'Prison Song', as well as 'Redit etas aurea', a song that I've read the text of before (the lyrics are great-very representative of the 12th century mindset) but never heard performed. I didn't know that any notation of it had survived. Definitely recommended for fans of early music, but so well done that anyone looking for something new and interesting to listen to would probably enjoy it.
Richard the Lionheart Prison Blues.......2005-12-18
Alla Francesca extemely great, lively and emotionally re-creates and performes two songs tied with Richard the Lionheart. First of them by Richard himself, "Ja nuns hons pris" ("No Prisoner Will Ever Speak His Mind Fully..."), written while he was imprisoned in Austria on the way back from Palestine. Really sad and beautiful song. And the second - song by Gauselm Faidit dedicated to the death of Richard. The other songs and instrumentals are also from the time of the Crusades.
The music performed here in more interesting and emotional way than on the famous old disc by David Munrow "Music of the Crusades". According to my experience, this music usually charms and impresses the listeners who never before heard medieval music.
P.S. If the music of the Crusades epoch is interesting for you - there is CD released in Germany - full version (30:48) of famous song by Walther von der Vogelweide "Palastinalied" (Song of Palestine) written in the 1220s and performed by 20 German authetic, folk, prog rock, Gothic and electronic music bands as single concept piece of music (produced by Markus Van Langen). Though it is not authentic record, still it sounds very lively and original and helps to feel the spirit of that epoch. Search the Web for site of label Emmuty Records.

What can you say about a classic?.......2007-02-07
Don Edwards is by far the best cowboy singer in the business. His quiet and unassuming manner, his down home personality when talking with you are what he's about. And it comes through in his music. He's great!
Where's the coyotes?.......2006-09-10
This is a great album, but I'm not sure he shoulda added the "Saddle Songs, Vol. II" to the title, as this collection is much more subdued than his previous double cd "Saddle Songs". If you're expecting a repeat of that collection with different songs, you may be disappointed. Disc 2 gets a liilte more upbeat in spots, but is still quite a bit more mellow than Vol. 1. Having said that, this is well worth the purchase, whichever you like better. I don't know of any other artist who has compiled a collection of cowboy songs as great, and sang them as well, as Mr. Edwards. He has a great voice and is a great picker. Unlike the other reviewer, I would play this at a cookout, but I'd wait till everyone'd had a few and it was time to calm down... My only complaint is that neither this collection, nor the first one, contain the song "Coyotes", which is available on "The Best Of..." as well as "The Bard & The Balladeer" a live cd w/ Waddie Mitchell. It shoulda found a place on one of these...
Don Edwards/Last of the troubadours/saddle songs II.......2006-08-07
This is an ok set of discs. A little on the tame side which isn't neccesarily a bad thing. I grew up cattle ranching and at night alot we'd drag out the guitar or just a harmonica or just no instruments and everyone would sing along to quite a few of the songs you'll hear on these cd's.
Don is a strong singer and guitar picker, does a good job. I guess I could say this would be a good reference collection.
If you've had a long hard day and just want to relax on the porch with a cold one and mellow out, this would be good for that. I wouldn't probably play it at a barbeque or a party as it's not a "lets liven this group up" sort of thing. But still good if you just want some Saddle songs like the tittle says.
Cowboy Basic.......2005-09-14
Compendium of mostly old and not particularly well known western songs. Don Edwards has a very good voice which is the high point of these recordings; otherwise the CD does not reach out and grab you. For the western purist, the old cattle songs are reminiscent of a day gone by.

truly, the best!.......2005-06-13
These guys from The Trailor Park Troubadours are very talented. Their songs will put a smile on anyone's face... at least the one who don't own a trailor or aren't afraid to admit that they're a redneck.
The Troubs Rawk!.......2005-04-11
The Trailer Park Troubadours are the most high energy feel good band ever! Besides hilarious lyrics, their outstanding musical talents make them the most fun band you'll ever see. Check out their website at: http://www.unhitched. I guarantee you'll be glad you did, and you can thank me later when you see me at one of their concerts where everybody will be having the time of their lives. You can buy all their cds and a dvd at their site for way cheaper than here!
Best In the Park.......2004-02-16
Great CD, great band. When was the last time you found a CD you could sing along to that was clever, fresh, and very listenable AND you could play for your kids? These songs have wit, a beat, and energy level that will entertain the whole trailer park.
2 Troubs in a Trailer--laughing all the way.......2000-02-24
I have known these guys since their early days of dragging their trailer from place to place singing for their supper. They have finally hit the big time in a doublewide cruising down the fast lane. These songs are dynamite and will blow the unwary listener away. If you like fun singalong music, you'll love this one!
You won't hear music this good on a top 40 station........1999-10-25
To be honest, I bought my copy at Walmart. Where else would you expect to find something like this.
They sing about trailers, trailer parks and the people that populate them. These are songs about the people you know, probably someone you're related to.
They remind me of Jimmy Buffet. In fact if Jimmy Buffet lived in a trailer, he would probaly sing songs like this.
Too bad they didn't put any copies out on 8-track.
Really, though, this is great stuff.
