5 out of 5 stars Great sound and great song!.......2007-05-19

I loved the song "A New Day" after hearing it on the radio. I tracked it down and ordered the CD. All the songs are terrific.

5 out of 5 stars Along with the Good Vibrations are my favorites.......2007-05-15

Own it! It's all worth it!
"You are the new day" is my personal favorite song.

4 out of 5 stars My dad loves it.......2007-02-13

If he likes it then I am happy. Not my cup of tea. I like the idea that there where some Beatles tunes. Dad is 57 I am 36 might be the difference in age. NOt sure. Just not my cup of tea

5 out of 5 stars Great Album!.......2006-04-22

I was very amazed when I first heard this album. Their sound is like no other. They are so unique that you can't compare them to other acapella groups.

I can say that their sound is better than a mixed choir because even though the King's Singers is only composed of 6 members. Their sound volume can beat a 30 member choir due to the quality of their voice.

My favorite is "It Was Almost Like A Song" because of the countertenor's very light voice. The baritone part was also awesome as he dominated the scene when he took the melody.

Overall, great album. This has to be one of the King's Singers best albums released. All songs are great that you can't resist missing a moment on listening it.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful singing; clever arrangements.......2002-06-14

I have been a fan of The King's Singers since their debut recording thirty years ago. New Day is one of my favourite albums. It has the terrific optimistic song "New Day," but many other wonderful tracks.

"Can't Buy Me Love" is sung as if it had been written by one of the Renaissance madrigal writers when he was in a very good mood. There are other up tempo tracks like this one, including Abba's "Money, Money, Money" and "The Rhythm of Life," but the CD also includes some romantic, lush singing in songs such as "Three Times A Lady," "The Summer Knows" and "It Was Almost Like A Song."

The clever arrangement of Barry Manilow's "Could It Be Magic?" begins with an extract from a sombre Chopin Prelude in C minor.

Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Brings Me Back.......2006-07-09

I was 15 when this album came out and I fell in love with it from the jump. I know I've had at least 3 copies of it through the years from having to replace it because I carried the TAPE with me everywhere I went. Some of my best high school memories have the song "Fire" in the background. The whole album is great. It makes me sad to know that they fell off the way they did because they had the potential to do big things. Eleven years later I still love this album and even though I'm married with kids now "Fire" still does something to me.

4 out of 5 stars Where are they now??.......2006-05-03

I met these talented young men in 94, just before the album came out. They gave an amazing live preformace in their hotel, whilst recording in NY. I knew their ex manager a little and used to see them rehearsing at his house in Chicago. I have since lost contact with Chicago and the US, but always remember their fab live voices.
Where are they now?

5 out of 5 stars One of the best young R&B group debuts ever.......2005-10-13

In an era when R&B music was predominantly ruled by vocal groups which feature dazzling leads but precious little harmony, Eric, Trerail, Roy and Keith prove that their strengths rest in a four-part alliance. A recent addition to Michael Bivins' Biv 10 Entertainment family back in 1995, Subway intended to take their listeners on a journey with the opening "Chi-Town Ride," which features guest vocalists Easy and Tung Twista and explores the Chicago scene's fusion of soul, rap and reggae. Producers Chad "Dr. Ceuss" Elliot and Herb Middleton contribute a couple of tracks ("The Better The Love" and "This Is Not A Goodbye") that are typical of the R. Kelly-influenced, bump-n-grind new wave of R&B. The swinging "Get Da Money" is Subway's link to the West Coast scene, and the Phat Pocket's Remix of that song wins the prize as the album's top jam. The tracks produced by soul survivor Gerald Levert ("This Lil' Game We Play" and "Goodtimes") bring about a change of pace, emphasizing Subway's raw vocal abilities and smoothe style. This flavorful combination of production expertise and raw talent provides GOOD TIMES with a continuous musical flow, and is the main reason why Subway's debut is such an unbridled success and it also features the love jam of the summer from 1995 which was Fire.

The cd arrived in good condition and i got it within a couple of days.

4 out of 5 stars The Chi-Town Ride With Subway Came To An Abrupt Stop.......2005-01-17

Subway was another mid-90's group that had great potential but was deprived of the opportunity and for what I have no idea. Half of the tracks on this CD was produced by Gerald Levert(underrated producer) who really laid down a smoove bass-line on "This Lil' Game We Play"(one of the best tracks of '94) and "Goodtimes" the album track. When Subway came onto the seen, I really thought that they could have stayed in the game for about 5-10 years but it did not happen that way. I agree with a previous reviewer as far as the motown artists of the late '80's to mid '90's, they were not marketed very well at all. Also, the intro track "Chi-Town Ride" with the rap by a younger Twista who picked his spots back in the early '90's as far as rapping. The other track that I enjoyed was "Fire" which had a lot of harmony. Even though this was their only project, this is still a cd to have in your collection.

5 out of 5 stars New Jack, Armani Style!!!.......2005-06-25

Al B Sure is one of those artists who didn't get the recognition he deserved for this cd. To Me, this was the cd that should have gotten all the accolades.

Personal Favorites:

"So Special"
"I Want To Know"
"Just for The Moment"
"You Excite Me"

This was the cd that I used to get me through the first gulf war, the one I always had on when I had a lady who appreciated a GOOD Slow Jam. This cd has been off and on in my cd player since it was released. Believe me, there are TIMELESS slow jams on this cd.

Don't get caught up in the Hype of "In Effect Mode"....THIS is the cd that defines Al B.

Unless he blesses us with the release of his highly anticipated new cd.....

5 out of 5 stars The Second Time's The Charm.......2004-08-23

Well actually it really goes "the third time's the charm", but since I ain't really feeling Al's third album I got to give it up for "Private Times". I really liked this album. It's good, IMO it's better than "In Effect Mode". Don't get me wrong I really like that cd, but I like this one better. (Uh oh, I know someone is going to disagree with me. Oh well.) Anyway my favortie song is "Hotel California". It's a tight song. I also like "I Want To Know". This is a great buy for old Al B Sure fans as well as new ones (like me). pz

3 out of 5 stars Not much to it.......2004-02-20

Al B. Sure's sophmore album did not live up expectations put forth after his first album. I hate to give anything by Al B. Sure a low rating, but this isn't a great album, and he proved in his first CD that he has the ability to do much better.

I was also disspointed that the mix of "Misunderstanding" that I heard on the radio was not what was on this CD. This happens a lot these days, and it was the only reason I bought "Private Times & the Whole 9".

Al B. Sure's rendition of "Hotel California" is worth a listen. If you are already a fan of Al B. Sure, you will appreciate it, however those unfamiliar with his style might be turned off.

5 out of 5 stars A good albu.......2003-09-20

This album is a very good album. Like the others said he hit big with his first hit "Nite and Day;" and then with the release of his debut album 1988's "In Effect Mode" fyi sold two million copies. Anyway, this album is a transition; but it's a very good album. I slept on this album for many years; due to the fact that I was only nine years old in 1990. Moreover, now that i'm grown I just found this album and am falling in love with it! I do remember "In Effect Mode," because my sister use to play the hell out of that album; but this album is just as good as that album.

With slow jams like "So Special," "Touch You" and fast cuts like "Missunderstanding," this album will be sure to take you back when music was actually music. Not like today, where Justin Timberlake can't even play a keyboard.

In conclusion, the album is off the hook.

5 out of 5 stars The title says it all.......2006-11-07

Heather Myles is fanatsic! This CD, her first, is full of true, 100%, real honky tonk music. She is the real thing, not the fake pop music Nashville calls country. Heather ought to be a star.

5 out of 5 stars Now, this is more like it.............2006-02-17

Thank God for Heather Myles. This album will knock your socks off; and if you think country music is Leann Rimes or Shania, you may as well leave right now. There's a dozen great songs here, and all are unapologetically country/hillbilly/honky-tonk music. The first number "Love Lyin' Down" mixes Heather's straight forward vocals with the Dwight Yoakam "What I DOn't Know" guitar riff. That's followed by her tribute to the great Stonewall Jackson with "Why I'm Walking"; I would never have believed a woman could sing Stonewall, but I'm man enough to admit I was wrong. There are a couple of true gems here, including: "Rum and Rodeo", "Lovin the Bottle", and "Stay Out of My Arms". It is an absolute sin that Heather Myles is not heralded by today's radio, but after hearing her voice, you realize that she's in a class all of her own. Let's hope she continues to trun out real country music.

5 out of 5 stars Wish she was on the radio.......2002-04-02

This is great country music and I cant believe she has not been doing concerts or releasing more albums

5 out of 5 stars The best of the best !.......2001-06-06

I discovered Heather some years ago and I think that she is probably one of the best female country singers that has ever lived and furthermore I would rate her album , " Just Like Old Times " , as a whole , the best CD by a country female artist, including Patsy Cline, Loretta, Tammy, Kitty Wells ,and all the rest , as the best compilation of meaningful songs, in one CD , in the history of country music.

5 out of 5 stars Rum & Rodeo should have dominated the charts.......2001-03-16

Heather Myles has an incredible voice and after listening to Rum & Rodeo, you are convinced it must have dominated the charts for weeks way back when. Unfortunately, just like Gary Allen's Smoke Rings in the Dark it didn't, which makes you wonder what really drives the charts (another tirade, for another time). Her music is incredible -- do yourself a favor and get this CD!!

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Well worth the price........2005-07-19

By the time these two albums were released, The Four Tops weren't very high on Motown's priority list. That's really a shame because these albums contained some of their strongest material. Frank Wilson was the appointed producer for both albums and the production is top notch, using many of Motown's highly talented musicians. Some of the recordings truly stand out. Although skimpy in the lyric department, "Still Water (Love)" is a true R&B classic. The Tops rendition of "Reflections" is better and tighter than the Supremes original version, in my opinion. "Love Is The Answer" brings back memories from when I was a child. (I owned a copy of the single.) It's a fun song with some really swinging horns.
I also owned the Changing Times album when I was very young and I played it to death. The track "In These Changing Times" with it's strange collage of street sounds and distorted voices taking up over two minutes before the song actually kicks in, is one of those songs that easily gets stuck in one's head.
Levi Stubbs lead vocal on "I Almost Had Her (But She Got Away)" is heartbreaking and the arrangement is brilliant. "Just Seven Numbers (Can Straighten Out My Life)" is a moderately paced gem about a fella whose male ego keeps him from calling his girl first to talk things through. My favourite track on the album has to be "Right Before My Eyes." The vocals and musicianship on this great track are stunning. The rhythm section alone is priceless.
I would have given this cd five stars if it weren't for the fact that I would have preferred more original tunes on the albums. Motown was notorious for putting a lot of remakes on their albums, even having several of their own artists record the same material.
Still, the pros definitely outweigh the cons. I highly recommend this cd.

5 out of 5 stars Two great albums from 1970.......2003-05-17

The first of the albums featured in this twofer - Still waters run deep - contains two major international hits. It's all in the game was a hit for various singers in the fifties. Originally a USA hit for Tommy Edwards in 1951, it became a much bigger USA hit for him in 1958, when it also became a massive UK hit. It was also a huge UK hit for Cliff Richard in the sixties, but all that didn't stop the Four tops having a top five UK hit and a top thirty USA hit. Still water (love) just missed the USA top ten but just made the UK top ten. There are some notable covers here, including Elusive butterfly (Bob Lind), Everybody's talking (Harry Nilsson), Reflections (Diana Ross and the Supremes).

The second album - Changing times - yielded Just seven numbers, a minor hit in the UK and the USA, plus another minor USA hit, In these changing times. On the album, this latter song is the second half of a medley with Long and winding road, the Beatles classic. Other covers on this album are Raindrops keep falling on my head and Try to remember.

Most, if not all, of the other songs on this collection are originals and definitely worth listening to. Perhaps the Four tops were past their absolute peak by the time these albums were recorded, but there is still plenty of interest here. So don't begin your Four tops collection here, but if you're really into Motown, this is well worth investing in.

Three Times Dope was ahead of their time. Their first album Original Stylin' was a great record with songs like "Greatest Man Alive" and "Funky Dividends" which were both great singles. Their second album Live !!! From Ackniculous Land, for me, was one of the best albums I had heard at that time. The production was impeccable with crisp high hats and the kind of bass that instantly grabs your attention if you have a good system. The vocals by E.S.T. were simply amazing. Not just his lyrics but his delivery was polished and, in my opinion, stacks up with his contemporaries as one of the best. The lead single, "Weak at the Knees" was not one of my favorite tracks on the album and a poor choice of singles by the record company for this group which probably led to it's dismal sales. "Mellow But Smooth" is one of the standout tracks along with "I Ain't Tryin 2 Hear It", " Mr. Sandman", and "No Words". This album was the last from the Philly trio for quite some time. I remember seeing ads in The Source for a new album on Arista around 1992. I can't remember the name but it was a two or three word title and one of the words was flavor or flavors. I saw ads again around 1996 in The Source for an album but it never came out. I got their third album, which was released in 1998, Sequel 3 in 2001 or 2002. I didn't even know it was out. It was a far cry from 1990 and it was not up to the level of excellence that should be expected from a group with this much talent. Live !!! From Ackniculous Land is a classic hip-hop record. Believe it or not, it sounds as good today in 2007 as it did in 1990. It holds up musically and lyrically very well against ANY hip-hop record out in the last 17 years. It is very disappointing that this group did not get a chance to put out more music because they were one of my absolute favorites. E.S.T. has 8 bars on Nas' remix of "Where Are They Now" and he's still spittin' like he always had. If you can find Live !!! From Ackniculous Land for a decent price get it.

5 out of 5 stars 3xd.......2003-12-09

12/09/2003 This album is the best out of the three (albums). I herd them all, and I am a 3xD fan. The main rapper of the group (est) is one of the best artist of all time (rarely talked about). If there were a (world wide) rap contest EST would be in the finals. This album talks about real topics, (from 1990, and are still major topics in the present) and has fun while doing it. If you don't have this album you don't have a real rap collection (of albums).

Wendell B. is the president of Cuzzo Music in association with Hornsby Lee Entertainment and is the first to release product from the fledgling corporation. He's been compared to his idols, Freddie Jackson, Luther Vandross, Barry White, and Will Downing, and he covers a little bit of everything on this record: good times, love found, love lost, love scorned. Wendell wrote, arranged, and produced all the material here.

When I heard Heaven Sent Me an Angel on the radio, I had to know this artist and quickly ordered the CD. I'm loving the whole thing; can't just pick one song. Though, Wendell could be the next Barry White, he has his own unique style. Looking and waiting for me from this artist.

This was a mellow but also up beat. For all the females that I have turned on to this they love it. I'm going to buy his last one to.

4 out of 5 stars Smooth and definitely needed in todays music world.......2005-08-17

This cd is one of the best r&b cd's I've heard in a long time. Wendell's smooth vocals remind you of why he's called the baladeer of the millenium. Track after track is enjoyable. My personal favorite was track 11, Just don't understand you. I think I listened to it 4 times straight. I would recommend this to anyone who misses real r&b. This is an example of what R&b was meant to be.

Okay, maybe I'm not chronic, but I must confess that I enjoy a good reefer every now and then. Once a week or so, especially when I'm celebrating something. I believe "celebration" is the theme of this album. Despite their keeping with the theme of smokin' up and getting high, The WhoRidas provide us with the underlying message that it's really about having fun, whether that entails blazin' the weed, dancing, or simply just chillin'. To me, this celebration of life is a refreshing directional change for the WhoRidas. I was a bit disappointed with their first album, "WhoRidin". I felt it had some weak tracks and didn't flow quite as well. "High Times", however, is a vast improvement. The tempo is very upbeat and many of the songs tend to grow on you after hearing them a few times. I especially enjoyed "Harem", "Dock of the Bay", "Jane", "Hits Like This", and of course, "Godfathers" with X-to-tha-Z. Choppa Saan and Mr. Taylor mesh remarkably well together, in general and on this album in particular. Overall, I really felt this album, especially after hearing it the second time. It's now one of my top choices when I'm in a happy, upbeat mood among friends, just kickin' it.
