    I bought this 3-pack CD at a local bookstore simply because it was cheap, but when I brought it home and listened to it, was blown away by how much I enjoyed each song. The organization of 3 CD's, one classic, one pop, and one lounge, is a great way to introduce one to the three aspects of Arabic music. I've only been listening to Arabic music for two years now (for dance) but this is one of my favorite compilations. So many CD compilations arranged under one region of the world (like the Putumayo CD's, or ones you buy at airports) are full of the dull, crowd-proven stuff, but these three CD's seem to take chances with the songs included (you could end up loving them or hating them, instead of being indifferent). The Arabic Lounge especially stands out for me, a mix of techno and chilling breakbeats that I never would have liked before. Don't let the "beginner's guide" throw you off (in fact, make sure you like Arabic music before buying all 3 CDs) - this is a creme de la creme collection that's sure to exceed your expectations.

            I purchased this set 3 years ago and still listen to it regularly. The three discs cover alot of Middle Eastern musical styles, from 'oldies' to modern lounge, and also a selection of Pop hits. I found the 'Arabian Classics' CD to be the most educational and interesting, but the 'Arabian Lounge' is also excellent if you want to have a calm evening with a classy atmosphere. The Lounge CD is itself a very good example of the majority of 'Arabian' lounge and chill-out music that is floating around, and if you are curious about but unfamiliar with that style of Lounge, this set is a great place to start. I have to say that about all three styles of Arabian music that this set includes - it is exactly what it says it is: a Beginner's Guide to Arabia. Whether you are just starting out with Arabic music or you are a seasoned listener, this is a marvelous collection that will suit any taste.

            This 3-CD sampler has broadened my knowledge of arabic music and has proven useful as I program selections for my radio program, Caravan, on WSUM 91.7 FM, at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. It samples a wide range of styles, the notes provide a good starting place, and the price is quite reasonable.
