About the Artist
Sheri Bauer-Mayorga is a vocalist, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. She began her career in NYC playing contemporary American piano repertoire and appeared in venues such as the The Kitchen and New Music America. An interest in American traditional music (via the work of composer Ruth Crawford Seeger) led to Sheri's research and performance of traditional folk song. Most recently, she has performed this repertoire in a theater context with the New York company, The Actor's Ensemble, in their adaptation of stories by Hamlin Garland. She is also arranger and "orchestra" for a British-American pantomime company, The PantoLoons. Sheri has also collaborated in arranging and performing with Lincoln Mayorga both as pianist and vocalist. This marks their first recorded collaboration.

Lincoln Mayorga is a pianist, producer and arranger who has toured internationally with a highly versatile repertoire. Known as the "Crossover King," he has and performed and recorded with a wide range of artists from Phil Ochs (as pianist on "The Party" and "Small Circle Of Friends"), Walt Disney studios, The Limeliters, Mel Torme, Ketty Lester, Marni Nixon, Margie Gibson, The Four Preps, and The Piltdown Men. His recordings range from classical to jazz to pop and include "Sophisticated Innoncence," " Fiddle-De-Bop," "A Bouquet Of Familiar Classics," and "The Irving Berlin Century."

5 out of 5 stars What a CD!.......2002-12-28

Sheri's CD made a very big impression on me. I had never realized what a colorful and pure voice she had. Also, how versatile. When I heard her play the congas AND sing at the same time in "Isaias," I was really impressed! Would you guess she composed it?
My favorite song is "60's TV." I really understood the connection between the two pictures that Sheri so clearly remembers from her childhood. Maybe it's because I'm a child, or maybe because of the the words she chose to hook them together......what I perceive to be the connection is that Martin Luther King is looking down on earth from "heaven's height" and the "marshmallow men" also saw the earth from "heaven's height." But, I think the two views hold different meanings. The marshmallow men see a pretty blue marble set on black velvet, and Martin sees the troubled hearts and souls of men.

5 out of 5 stars A CD With a Depth of Color and Vision.......2002-12-28

"On the Wrong Side of the Railroad Tracks" is a powerful testament to the importance of a comprehensive musical vision with colorful discussion from many angles and perspectives for the purpose of a truly pleasurable and stimulating presentation to the listener. This CD smacks of intense talent and intelligence, with a deeply embedded purpose that weaves this gorgeous tapestry entitled "Wrong Side of the Railroad Tracks."

Sheri's exquisitely pure and expressive voice tells tales that everyone should know and of course, can relate to. The heart is that of Duke Ellington as the title is dedicated. But, just as important are the stories of the "Weave Room", "Isaias", "The Jolly Thrasher", "The Truth of Love", "The Big Payoff", "One Song" and "Sixties TV." Sheri makes being on the "wrong side" a joy through the tears and the laughter. She makes it terribly clear and close with a voice that enables the listener to experience that exile on many levels.

An outstanding musical experience. A must have to listen to again and again.

5 out of 5 stars How do you know when it's great?.......2002-12-23

For me, I know a recording is great when I can hear it any number of times and appreciate it a little more each time. Really good works of art always give you something different each time you experience them. Sheri's voice and the music on this CD is like that. The songs are funny, sad and thoughtful; the sound is warm and inclusive; the intrumentals are thoroughly professional; and above it all is Sheri's voice -- something special which just has to be heard.
