About the Artist
Christina Smith and Jean Hewson are two remarkable musicians whose fine interpretations of traditional Newfoundland music will leave you wanting more. Album Description
Traditional Newfoundland music with a contemporary twist. Christina Smith (fiddle, cello) and Jean Hewson (vocals, guitar) are two sensational musicians who have dedicated themselves to the preservation and performance of Newfoundland music. With the release of Like Ducks!, their first release as a duo, the two show they can breathe new life into traditional Newfoundland songs and tunes.

Centred around Christina's vibrant fiddling and Jean's beautiful voice, and filled out by Jean's complex guitar work and Christina's evocative cello, Like Ducks! moves easily between lively fiddle tunes, haunting ballads, humorous traditional songs and an incredible treatment of a classic Hank Williams song. Although composed entirely of traditional material, the innovative arrangements on Like Ducks! give the songs and tunes an edge that will leave you wanting more. Unusual instrumentation, sudden changes in tempo and dynamics and key modulations surprise at every turn. Featuring guest appearances by Wade Pinhorn, Fergus O'Byrne, Jeremy Bishop, Frank Maher, Gerry Strong, Sandy Morris, Rory McLeod and more.
