Album Description
Harmony Singing By Ear: A step by step approach for learning how to sing harmonies above and below a melody. Three CDs totaling three 1/2 hours of instructional narrative, fully produced music tracks and guide vocals. One, two or more singers can learn two and three-part harmony singing. Vocal coach Susan Anders has successfully used these methods for over twenty years with pop, R&B, folk, rock and country singers.
Harmony Singing By Ear uses two complementary methods to teach singers how to harmonize by ear. After reviewing some music theory basics, instructional sections walk you through how to find the upper and lower harmony parts for eight songs. Those same harmonies are sung on fully produced music tracks. On these tracks the vocal parts are panned to different speakers--singers can pan to one speaker and just hear their part, pan to the middle and hear both parts, or pan to the other speaker to practice with one or two other parts. In this way, beginning harmonizers can control how much or how little of the other voices they hear, making it easier to stay on their part. More confident harmonizers can sing without the guide vocals. Singers who simply want to learn and sing the harmony parts can skip the instructional tracks, go right to the music tracks, and pan their speakers to the right to learn the harmony part for each song.
Though much of Harmony Singing By Ear focuses on the how-tos of parallel harmonizing above and below a melody, singers will also learn about call-response, blue note, chromatic and block chord harmonies. Music tracks without vocals are also included so singers can practice their parts "without the training wheels". Plus, there's a supplementary section of exercises to build one's harmonizing skills. The songs range in style from pop to R&B to folk to modern rock to jazz.
Customer Reviews:
Best i've heard.......2007-05-05
I've been singing and teaching harmony for a long time now, and I must say that these CD's are the best i've come across. They are not overloaded with theory and musical jargon, which makes it easy for the non-musicians for follow. Great choice of songs too.
A revolutionary product.......2006-01-10
I was clueless about harmony singing before using these CDs. Now I'm getting it-the lessons are very user-friendly and go at a good pace, and I'm learning things about music and singing that never made sense to me before. Good choice of songs, good method.

Customer Reviews:
GREAT TRADITIONAL COUNTRY!!!.......2005-04-24
This is Audrey Auld's first release that was released in 1998. (I've previously review her latest CD in a previous issue of SCC-Nytt.) This is good traditional country. Bill Chambers is the father of Aussie singer-songwriter Kasey Chambers. He sings very good and he sometimes sings very like Gram Parsons. This is mostly shown on the song Kiss The Children, that Gram recorded in 1973. One of this CD's best songs. The CD has 14 songs, where half are covers and half are written by them. The best songs are "Losing Side Of Love", "What`s In Our Hearts", "We`ll Sweep Out The Ashes In The Morning" and "Searching". The last song "Meet Me Up There" makes me think of Mother Maybelle & The Carter Family with its` autoharp, harmony and guitarpickin'. This CD is recorded in Australia with Australian musicians that are very talented. I know there are people out there that only buy countrymusic from American or Canadian singers. But do buy Audrey Auld -this is actually one of 1998`s best records!
Don't go past this one!.......2005-04-18
If you are looking for music that has that old-style country sound then you have found it! What a delight to listen to Bill and Audrey harmonise on 14 great songs, half of which are written by the artists. And the musicianship is outstanding - dobro, lap steel, pedal steel, banjo, acoustic guitar - you will think you've gone to heaven, it is that good!
Great Music.......2003-07-16
I recently saw Bill Chambers and Audrey Auld at Threadgill's (south)in Austin, Texas... what a show! These two are wonderful! They invited several onstage: Colin Gilmore, Trish Murphy, Billy Dee, Eric Blakeley and fellow Australian Catherine Britt.
Former (?) Australians Kym Warner (mandolin) and Carol Young (bass) were the rest of Bill and Audrey's band that night(and 2/3 of "The Greencards," an Austin group) and were featured as well.
If you can, check out all of these artists, they put on one heck of a show.
As for the "review" for the "Bill & Audrey" CD... I bought the CD from Audrey after the show...it is wonderful. If you like good, old fashioned, "honky tonk" country music, you should love this one!
Follow up notes.......2002-10-21
I had reviewed this album earlier but wanted to add some notes:
NOTE 1: Audrey (Auld) has now moved to Texas and has a new album -- Fallen. There is no mention of this album in the Fallen write-up.
NOTE 2: To Joyce A (the writer of "We'll sweep out the ashes in the morning" -- Bill & Audrey do a great job. Also (if you can find it) there is another interesting version (faster) of the song by Bennie Jolink on his "Howling at the Moon." He is Dutch -- I picked the album up in Amsterdam: Mercury 546 275-2. I don't know if you can get it in the states.
Classic Country -- from Australia.......2001-01-15
I picked up this album in Sydney last year. I'm a long-time c&w fan (17 years in Texas), and I like to check out c&w in other countries on my business trips. I found a number of collections of country songs by Australian singers (mostly covers of U.S. top 40 stuff); then I found this album. It is spectacular. Bill & Audrey would be at home singing anywhere in Texas. They have great voices (Audrey's voice is in the class of memorable voices like Patsy Cline); some of the songs are old material (Honky Tonk Merry Go Round et. al.) but some are new "classics" in their own right. This is not for the Shania Twain crowd who want their country "pop" -- this is for serious country fans. If you want the real thing, check this out. You won't find yourself running back to Brooks & Dunn.

Customer Reviews:
Melody and harmony of the swing vocal group at it's best........2002-08-03
For those of you, who love swing era vocal group for their sound and nothing else - you are for a treat. Just close your eyes and listen. I would rate ( a first 13 songs in particular) the quality of recording, selection, musical arrangement and most important, the sound of it, as a first class. Personaly I feel, that I got a good value for my money and as a bonus listening pleasure, which I did not experienced for long time - to be precise, since last recording of The Manhattan Transfers, but don't take my word for it, listen to the samples and you will get the " picture " .
The Original Clark Sisters.......2002-02-06
Before the Gospel Clark Sisters, there were the Clark Sisters of the swing era: Ann, Jean, Peggy and Mary. Also known as The Sentimentalists they were a vocal group that sang with Tommy Dorsey and his orchestra in the 1940s. While not the most popular or memorable of vocal groups of the period (The Pied Pipers for example), they most certainly had the gift of swing. They released an album in the 1960s titled "Sing, Sing, Sing" as The Clark Sisters and revisited the big band tunes in the vocalese style and proved that after 20 years, they still had the sound and the style. They offer clean harmonies without sounding too slick. What impresses me most about them is that their vocal range is quite large. I don't normally like the sound of an all-female vocal group because I miss the baritone sound, the weight of the chords. The Clark Sisters have this range, and the lower voices of the girls can reach pretty low! A good CD for those interested in the history of the vocal group, big band, or something different. Certainly not "terrible 40s music" by any means.
great harmony music from the forties!.......2001-05-01
of course, this isn't the black Clark Sisters!!!! Just because this isn't what you're looking for doesn't mean that it's bad swing 40's music! it is actually good 40's vocal harmony music! OPEN YOUR MIND TO All types of music. Don't be ignorant of other music genres! Expand your mind!
Not the Black Clark Sisters.......2000-06-29
Not the Clark Sisters. Terrible 40s music.

Product Description
This CD & hardbound book combination is a wonderful view into the historic Russian Orthodox faith for the English speaker, the thesis of which builds off the Eastern understanding that an icon represents an invisible spiritual reality, the Church on earth is an icon of the heavenly church and that liturgical chant is an Icon (or image) of the angelic singing. These then, are in "divine harmon" as to how they work together to engage the faithful in the ascent to heaven. The CD is comprised of selections from the series of recordings by Anatoly Grindenko and the Russian Patriarchate Choir, and one portion of the book includes an essay by Anatoly Grindenko, and liner notes and complete hymn text in English. The other portion of the book is written by Russian iconographer Adolf Ovchinnikov, and explains the history and development of icons and their use in the Christian faith. It is comprised of a series of essays that have been translated into English, with copious! full-color icons representing ancient to recent icons, many previously unpublished (from St. Catherine's Monastery in Sinai, The Hermitage, the Byzantine Museum in Athens, and others). Book is 62 pages in length

Album Description
This recording showcases Ed's claw-hammer picking style, which he learned listening to Ralph Stanley. The style incorporates a rhythm action that plays rhythm and lead at the same time. Although his main instrument is the banjo, Ed is also a talented flat-top guitar player. The old traditional, Spinning Wheel showcases his dynamic finger picking style on the acoustic guitar.
Hills of Rome, which he wrote during his three year stay in Italy, is an instrumental with a great melody. Like a free-running brook, the banjo tumbles delightfully, taking the listener through unexpected turns and rhythms. A French melody from the 18th Century served as inspiration for Richard's thoughtful `a capella' banjo arrangement which he has titled Father We Thank Thee.
1,000 Miles South another original composition, reflects his wistful feelings for his family's country home in DeQuincy, Louisiana.
For Ed, music is a common link, an evangelical tool, opening much-needed paths of communication between divergent religious groups. Through his music, he's enjoyed meeting and mingling with people from many backgrounds.
Customer Reviews:
great banjo pickin'!.......2002-05-15
This CD is one of my favorites and I keep it close by as I am driving. Track 1, Spinning Wheel, is beautiful, traditional music and very easy listening. I love that flattop style. But #3, Hills of Rome, is my favorite, because I love banjo picking. -JB
Great Catholic Bluegrass Music.......2002-05-01
About midway through 2001, I tuned into a Catholic Music website and selected a programme of Catholic Country Music. The first song was by Father Ed Richard called "Ocean of Mercy". This song pressed all the right buttons with me. I loved it and to cut a long story short I tracked down Father Ed and invited him to come to New Zealand to speak and sing at the Wellington Eucharistic Convention on 10 March 2002.
Fr Ed introduced us to Catholic Bluegrass and we were blown away.
Everybody loved his singing and banjo playing. What a great talent he has. His music get under your skin, the toes start tapping and you can't help but sing along.
"Jimmy Brown The Newsboy" contains a good mix of old and new material that brings together all that is good in the world of bluegrass in a well balanced and executed recording.
Father Ed is an accomplished exponent of the genre, being steeped in the culture of bluegrass music from birth and a virtuoso on the banjo and guitar.
Father Ed brought his bluegrass music to New Zealand and we love it. This a CD worthy of gracing any collection and one you will really enjoy.
