About the Artist
Born on a ranch outside of Napa, California, Lily Wilson discovered at a young age a thirst for new experiences and different cultures that has led her, guitar and journals in hand, all around the world.

With the soothingly honest timbre of her voice and her evocative depiction of human experience, Lily takes her listeners on a journey. We fly over the mountains of Patagonia. We watch the sunset from an L.A. sidewalk. All the while we feel the beat of universal truths: love, loss, and the evolution of our souls. Gaze through the eyes of these songs and see something you may already know, but have forgotten.

Lily has released two C.D.s on which she collaberated with top artists from London, Hawaii, Nashville and Los Angeles. She is currently touring California and recording her third C.D.

Album Description
Lily teamed up with Los Angeles producer/ guitarist, Jim West, to record this second independent release of mostly original songs. With her clear and sometimes haunting vocals set against intricate yet subtle guitar work, soft percussion, and other ear candy, the CD has a way of elevating any mood. Lily's lyrics are strong and honest, while at the same time optomistic. Her cover of Buddy Holly's Well All Right is a light-hearted, nicely grooving rendition. This is a beautiful record.

Julianne Baird is breathtakingly good at what she does: intelligent, stylistically convincing, technically brilliant ornamentation, in a sweet, phenomenally accurate voice. I love it. Those not accustomed to this sort of thing, though, may find it lacking emotional immediacy. Consider also Kathleen Battle with some of the same material: not that she's better, but the appeal is more directly sensual rather than intellectual.

How could you go wrong with the clear seraph voice of Julianne Baird accompanied by the delicate skill of Ronn McFarlane on the Lute. Not only is the talent exceptional but the composed works of Lute music divine.

You listen to each song and are carried away to time/place devoid of any worry let alone any task other than to listen to Julianne and Ronn execute perfection. You truely feel part of the Elizabethan Court listening to this CD it is both beautiful and dark simutaneously.

Another fabulous feature to this CD is the simplicity of the recording of only lute and vocals with no special effects. To retain the warmth and purity of the composition it was recorded on location in 'The Troy Savings Bank Music Hall' in Upstate New York and is one of the finest acoustical settings in the world. Unlike modern pop music Lute music as written needs no manipulation or adjustment in the studio if executed by skilled artists and musicians in an acoustical atmosphere and this recording does exactly that.

I highly recommend this CD of beautiful music. It truely will evoke deep feeling and emotion.

These 53 songs have been collected by Naxos from their extensive acquisitions from Collins Classics, and perhaps other British sources now out of business. There's a steady cottage industry, year after year, producing the typical English art song, which is usually based on folk songs, but even in more modern idioms is profuondly conservative and nostaligic. Half these songs, not to mention half the composers, are totally unknown to American audiences, but the familiar names of Vaughan Williams and Britten represent high quality, and the lesser lights, such as Warlock and Quilter, are mainstays in this repertoire.

I'd challenge all but the most addicted listener to make it through more than ten songs at a sitting, and many of these pieces are tepid, offering comfort rather than inspiration. The singers are among the best, but Graham Johnson and Steuart Beford, who do most of the accompaniments, are lackluster. I know that won't be a popular comment, yet if you compare any of these songs with rendiitons done by Janet Baker, John Shirley-quirk, and most recently Bryn Terfel and Ian Bostridge, you immediately notice how much more intensity and drama is pesent than htis colleciton reveals.

This CD has it all: Shakespeare period music for mood and background music, Songs actually written into Shakespeare's plays and talent infused into every track. Every song is done well by talented musicians and vocalists and the selection is great. If you are looking for the songs you see featured in your favorite Shakespeare play and would like to hear them, or would like background music to play while you peruse "The Merry Wives of Windsor" or any other plays from that time period, I recommend this CD.

To your joy you can find beautiful old english songs of he shakespeare era. Nice selection but incompleet. Recomended for those intrested in Shakesperean plays as well.

    A variety of musical styles and a wide assortment of artists are brought together on this recording celebrating the first decade of my favorite record label-Dorian. It is all here: early music to twentieth century Latin American orchestral pieces. A lot of my favorite artists (Custer LaRue, The Baltimore Consort, Carol Thompson, Chatham Baroque, and Julianne Baird to name a few) are represented here. This disc is interesting and entertaining listening on its own merits. It is an indispensable introduction to the label. Either way, I recommend it.
