The Ward Highway: The Wellspring.......2007-07-14
If you are reading this, then you are in big, big trouble. It may mean that you have discovered M Ward and are tracing him back to his roots, to his beginnings. It further implies that you may have already heard something he did and are curious about this M Ward fellow. Either way, brace yourself because you are in for a rare musical treat. What awaits you is genius, pure unfettered genius, and you are going to find it here at the beginning (in its incipient stages) or growing stronger with "End of Amnesia" or bursting forth with "The transfiguration of Vincent" or simply exploding everywhere all over the place in "Transistor Radio". Whatever direction you are travelling on the Ward Highway, get ready to be in a big musical wreck. Nobody does anything near to music what this man does. There ought to be a law against him for making so much beauty so fast and so soon (he is only 31 and just put out his fourth CD) but who's going to vote for it? Not me, that's for sure, and pretty soon, not you either. Listen and see. After hearing this one, you have the best collection of the four waiting for you next at #2 Ward Highway. The ride on this road only gets better and better as it heads for the musical hall of fame. This man is making once in a lifetime music and you are standing at the spot from which it all began. You need to drink the Kool-Aid from the wellspring immediately and when you do you'll understand what all the fuss is about. The Ward highway is an incredibly beautiful and remote yet immediately present place laced with sounds and sights often imagined but rarely encountered

PLEASE BE AWARE.......2007-02-25
The audio samples given here are from the Vivaldi for Valentines CD in this same Philips series. NOT Bach.
The Vivaldi was great, though.
Bubble Bath Baroque.......2005-09-27
Light some candles, run a bubble bath, put in bath beads, pop this CD into your stereo and indulge in a bath that would mean you've pampered yourself in extremis. This particular recording from the popular Set Your Life To Classical series is a real treat for Bathtime, or in my opinion, anytime. It is indeed, as the title suggests, a relaxing serenade to wash your cares away. It is therapy, a perfect companion to a massage, reading a book, drinking tea, anything you can do alone to pamper yourself and to relax. Iona Brown, a female conductor, takes Sir Neville Marriner's place and conducts the Academy of St Martin In The Fields performing such works as the opening track - the Lute Concerto by Vivaldi as well as Track 4's Largo from the Winter movement in The Four Seasons, track 12's Concerto For Two Guitars by Corelli and the Oboe Concerto in D by Telemann. Also featured on here Oboe Concerti by Handel and Water Music Suite, and other conductors featured on here are Raymond Leppard and his English Chamber Orchestra. The Canon in D has never sounded more radiant than on here as it is conducted by Sir Neville Marriner and closes the CD nicely. A more relaxing way to take a bath you'll be hard-pressed to find. This music is gorgeous, it's affordable (on the Used Item section and the regular price) and is as always, a great intro to classical music and a fun, innovative way to enjoy it.
Cleansing Sounds To Wash Away Tensions.......2003-01-09
This is pleasing, pastoral music picked to relieve that which tenses up our bodies and souls.
Turn on this excellent baroque collection from the likes of Vivaldi, Telemann, Handel and Pachelbel (among others) superbly played by such virtuosos as Rampal, Holliger et al.
Sweeping instrumental arias are so relaxing! This one will soothe the savage beast as well as those tired bods.
Great Classical Music Series Gorgeous Music.......2002-12-22
The cd series "Set Your Life To Classical Music", composes a variety of baroque, classical and romantic instrumental music that serves the purpose of leisure and background while you engage in the day or evening's activities. The purpose is therapeutic. There are other titles in the series, such as "Bach For Breakfast", "Beethoven For Book Lovers" "Chopin And Champagne", "Baroque For Bedtime", "Puccini and Pasta", "Mozart For The Morning Commute", the series goes on and on. It is a great way to soothe your tensions and provides stress-free, nearly New Age style music that you'd more than likely hear at a masseur's place of business. One can also make the argument that this is the music you'd hear at an elevator. What I like about all these series is that they are also a great introduction to instrumental/classical music. The ensembles performing the classical works are virtuosic and well known in world of classical performance, such as Sir Neville Marriner and St. Martin In The Fields, I Musici and the New Age, Yani-style musician, Zamfir, who specializes in rare instruments such as pan pipes.
On this recording, specifically designed to accompany your bubble bath, there are beautiful, slower-paced movements from Baroque flute, violin and oboe concertos. There are the Sicilian style movements of such composers as Vivaldi, Bach and Telemann. The largo from the Winter movement is a richly melodic and dreamy piece for strings, and the concluding work, Canon In D Major, is an elegant, graceful and heartfelt chamber piece that has become iconic in Baroque music. It was used in the film, Ordinary People and is very popular in classical music for weddings. I strongly recommend all the cds in the series. They are a perfect way to get you into some of the most beautiful classical music ever written, and are a great way to involve music as the wordless, instrumental soundtrack in your life.
A relaxing serenade.......2000-12-28
This is a wonderful collection of Baroque pieces that will truly relax and wash away stress and tension. I especially like the oboe and classical guitar pieces. If you are a fan of the pan flute, this is also a good CD for you, but the pan flute actually is the down side of the CD for me. All the songs are first rate!

Amazon.com essential recording
Yo-Yo Ma might seem like an unlikely protagonist for the tango, but this intrepid musical explorer has taken his task seriously, collaborating with experienced tango musicians. Ma even participates in a posthumous collaboration with one 1987 Piazzolla recording. Furthermore, while he's obviously the headliner here, he doesn't dominate the arrangements nearly as much as he does the billing and photography of the disc. While the result isn't your essential Piazzolla album (that would have to include more of the composer's own playing), it's an atmospheric and convincing collection, perhaps a good introduction for those who don't know the music. --Leslie Gerber
Customer Reviews:
Excellently performed, Not much Variety.......2007-01-12
Yo-Yo Ma leads an all-star cast in his "Sould of the Tango" project. He offers fresh new arrangements of Piazzolla's masterpieces including "Libertango," "Tango Suite," "Fugatta," and more. The arrangements are expertly performed and the playing is exciting and energetic. There is a lush palatte of sound colors coming from guitars, cellos, pianos and the bandoneon. The music is beautiful and flashy. Pieces are reorchestrated such as the "Tango Suite" pieces which are originally guitar duos now with a cello in the mix and the last track on the album, "Cafe 1930" was originally flute and guitar but Ma performs it on cello and bandoneon. The result is freshly interpreted Piazzolla masterpieces that feature new sound color and new perspective. The music is really quite enchanting.
The only problem with this particular recording is that I think Piazzolla is better heard in moderation. Piazzolla wrote in such a constrianed genre, (classical tango), and thus a whole hour of Piazzolla is a little much to take. This great album doesn't make for much of a great straight through listen, but is much better as a plesant surprise when the computer library or iPod is on shuffle.
A Classy CD.......2004-06-23
Great intro to tango, great to relax and read to.
Great Music BUT - Stupid Sony CD.......2003-07-16
I love this music - plays great on my CD player, but when I tried to play it on my computer at work, I wouldn't work. Sony wanted me to install something that didn't work on my machine (my computer is farely new), so I ended up having a friend copy the music over to a new CD without all that SONY stuff they use to stop pirating probably. Now I can listen at work and it is wonderful. BUT BEWARE ON BUYING CDs like this!
Very good but not what I heard live in Cerritos.......2003-03-05
When I first heard Yo-Yo Ma live in Cerritos several years ago, his closing piece was from the yet released Soul of the Tango.
With that music, the subdued audience was enlightened. With only a Cello and a Piano, the music that was created was unbelievable. It was several months before the CD came out and I was a little disappointed that the energy that was present in the live concert did not translate to the CD. I hope that a Live recording or DVD will eventually be released which does capture the real Soul of the Tango.
Fantastic Marriage of Two Worlds.......2003-03-05
I have always thought that Tango deserved a more elevated standing with both professional and amateur music lovers and what better way to attain that wish than having Yo Yo Ma join in for a session.(Is that a question or statement?) This is a remarkable CD that ranges a wide spectrum of Tango music, most of it exciting, sensual and daring.
Piazzolla, a transcendent artist, was determined to broaden Tango's appeal and he did so admirably. Lovers of jazz and classical now appreciate this fusion and nowhere is it expressed better than this offering. Ma admits he was delighted with the chance to work with the other artists and though he is the star it is never totally given over to the cello. As much as I like the cello, it cannot hold a candle to the bandoneon, perhaps the closest thing to a human voice outside of humanity.
Some of these works are magnificent interpretations and in the case of Tango, what is important is staying true to the spirit and not the letter of the note. I love the subtle, whining melodies, the rising and falling of the "voice"...the continual yearning.
An added bonus is that this CD contains an introduction for the PC. One can watch an interview with the performer, view photos or watch a video that intersperces the playing of Yo Yo Ma with cutouts from the movie. But this is something I discovered two full years after listenting to the CD. Get this recording and enjoy.

Album Description
Celldweller combines the electronic and the organic, darkness and beauty, aggression and sensuality, with the ability to find its home in the mosh pit as easily as on the dj's turntable. Their debut self-titled album ranges from guitar based electronic rock to the unique blending of heavily distorted guitars and aggression with drum and bass trance. Celldweller's music has been featured on television shows including: "The Chris Isaac Show" (Showtime), "Higher Ground" (ESPN, MTV); video game placements, including: "NHL Hockey" (EA), "Road Rash: Jailbreak" (EA), and "Test Drive: Off Road" (Infogames); and even in the Martin Lawrence movie, "National Security".
Customer Reviews:
Different and Good!.......2007-03-12
This CD was recommended by a friend based upon bands that I listen to now (Metallica, NIN, Korn..). He said it was a little different but thought I'd like it. A great mix of alternative and metal. I truly liked the entire CD.
Exceeded my expectations.......2007-02-22
I'm relatively new to the industrial-ish scene and didn't know what to expect from this CD. I had heard "Switchback" and "The Last Firstborn" and *loved* them but I'm almost always cautious of other tracks that I haven't heard yet on albums I buy. To my pleasure I found out that my caution was unnecessary. I enjoy pretty much all of the tracks on this CD. My favorites remain as Switchback and The Last Firstborn but I discovered I really liked "Frozen." My recommendation? If you liked Switchback, The Last Firstborn, or "One Good Reason" (all of which you can hear on Pandora) then I feel you'll like this album.
Awesome!.......2006-11-06
This album is incredible. It never gets old, there are no repedative samples, it's hard without being too edgy like Argyle Park. You just need to buy it!
Hard II Label - Easy II Love.......2006-08-30
Celldweller has gained alot of respect and fans since the release of this. With many of these songs heard in Movies, Video Games & Internet Radio and a MySpace page filled to the brim with loyal Klayton fans. The ironic part is this guy is from Michigan (where I happen to live) where Industrial & Techno are far from the main trend. Yet this One Man Army is easily one of the most idolized idependent artists in the state, If not the country.
The albums approach is a mix of several different genres. Alternative, CyberTek, Gothic, Industrial, Metal & Techno. They all combine into a well oiled machine creating some of the most original music i've ever heard. From gritty synthed out guitar riffs, to dark overtones with soft melodic vocals and everything in between.
Songs such as 'Tragedy' have lyrics easy to sing along with and fast paced music easy to dance to or even head bang to. Other songs such as 'Switchback' have a heavier Industrial Metal influence and even have Klayton singing in audible Growl/Yell form. Tracks with a darker grittier approach like 'Symbiont' have Cyber Goth written all over them and are a nice addition to the album.
Metal fans be cautious, This album really isn't all that heavy. I suggest checking out songs on MySpace before purchasing. Everyone else don't hesitate, This is a great and original album to add to your collection. Personal favorites include: Frozen - Tragedy - Symbiont - Afraid This Time.
-If you took the time to read my review, Please take the time to rate it and let me know whether it Helped you or Not.
-Thank you, A loyal Celldweller fan & Michigan Music supporter.
4.5 Stars. Excellent album........2006-08-29
I was fortunate enough to get this disc a little while back, and I had no idea the version I acquired was a low bit rate, internet leak. So, about 2 months ago, I buy the album and never really do much with it, but yesterday I brought it into work and I was floored at the difference. Lesson learned: Buy your CD's, even if you get the "early" version. Or just wait for the final to drop.
Yes, Celldweller is not Circle of Dust. They aren't industrial. What we've got here is a tapestry of rock, house, drum n' bass, and industrial, and it's quite a project he has here. A lot of people criticize it because he uses clean vocals, catchy harmonies, and club beats. I praise the man for it, and I'll tell you why this album is amazing, and why it's pushing the envelope. (Hopefully the soon-to-appear sophomore disc will be the sonic powerhouse a lot of people have been saying it is). Also, I'm going to not compare it to Circle of Dust or Argyle Park, as this is a completely different beast.
First off, Celldweller is defintely catchy and poppy. There is no doubting this. Some of their songs, like the rap infused synthetic rocker Switchback, are high energy affairs that allow you to bob your head and sing along. However, the variety of song structures, the use of synths, heavily processed guitars, and throbbing programmed drum beats all come together to produce something that doesn't skimp on either the rock or techno side. This isn't electronica sprikled over numetal, ala Spineshank, and it defintely isn't techno with a bit of guitar filled in. This a perfectly balanced combination of the two creating something quite unique, good to the ears, and something you can dance to. Once the album progresses and you start hearing the acoustic bits, the catchy rock riffs, the vocoded female vocal leads, you'll start to understand: This isn't a faliure at industrial, it's an almagamtion of all the styles of music the man in charge (Klayton) enjoys.
The high points for me are without a doubt the 7 minute techno epic "The Last Firstborn", with its hypnotic house rhythms, amazingly well mixed guitar parts that don't overwhelm the general feeling but add immesurably to it, and the whispered/raspy spoken word/rap hybrid vocals. Add some cool guitar breakdowns and infintely creepy lyrics, and it's a 10/10. The other high point comes later in the album, the much shorter and more rock-styled Fadeaway. From the trip-hop intro, which quickly gets a dose of chugging riffage, to the soaring and amazingly catchy chorus, this song rocks your ears until it drops down into an unexpected acoustic break complete with erie synths switching between your ears and a solemn vocal performance.
I can't recommend this album enough to people who have an affinity for rock and an even passing interest in electronica and industrial rock (Front Line Assembly fans need not apply ;) ). Don't expect a mind-twisting, calculated insanity. This is not Aphex Twin with guitars. This is straight up 4/4 beats, a high range mix of vocals, simple rock guitars, enough hooks to hold down a hungry Oprah, and some of the best club sample work I've heard outside of rave dj's. If your idea of great music simply consists of how heavy it is, then you're better off somewhere else. If your benchmark of good industrial is Squarepusher or Aphex Twin (both of which I love, btw) and if your rock collection consists of Gorguts, Starkweather, or even to a lesser degree Trivium, this probably isn't the album for you.
However, if you can take some pop, some club beats, and a motherload of catchy rhythms, get this album. You will not regret it.

Excellent recording.......2007-05-12
If you are a fan of classical guitar than this is a must own set. I enjoy every moment.
Highly Recommended!.......2006-12-23
I would recommend this CD to anyone who loves music--period! Christopher Parkening is unquestionably one of the greatest classical guitarists of all-time. He embodies personal excellence like no other and is a brilliant artist. This CD is a must-have for any classical enthusiast. My favorite pieces include: Tárrega's "Recuerdos de la Alhambra," "Romance," Bach's "Prelude No. 6," and Rodrigo's "Concierto de Aranjuez." There are other versions of these pieces as well, but I always prefer Parkening's renditions, as they are oh so extraordinary--especially the recording of Aranjuez!! Other guitarists never seem to capture the essence of Rodrigo's musical masterpiece (e.g., Göran Söllescher in "Mad About Guitars"). But Parkening did! And the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra was a perfect accompaniment.
This CD is definitely worth buying. Included is a CD booklet, which illustrates the history of Parkening's illustrious career, interesting tidbits about all 25 recorded pieces, and several photos of his early life to his "breathtaking performance" at Rodrigo's 90th birthday celebration at the Royal Festival Hall in London, 1992.
Amazing.......2006-05-08
I am not going to go into great detail. I am working on a degree in classical guitar and I can say this is something to strive for. His musical interpretation of the peices represented here are some of the best I've heard. His tone, color, and phrasing is incredible.
A gentleman musical agreement! .......2006-03-16
In guitar ` s playing there have been many renowned performers, gifted of exuberant technique. But curiously the Apollonian playing is not by itself strictly enough. The guitar is the instrument which is closer to heart as any other one. It demands from you passion and sentiment. There have been three well known guitarists, one of them from England and the other one from Spain and the third one from Japan whose sensibility was totally absent in their performances.
But fortunately for us, there have been notable interpreters that have been maintained a desired balance and contrast between brain and heart, achieving great distinction and total acknowledgement around the world. I would name seven primordial names along the instrument `s story. First of all: the mythic soloist Andres Segovia, Regino Sainz de la Maza, John Williams, Alirio Diaz, Manuel Berrueco, Siegfried Behrend and Christopher Parkening, among the most representative ones of a great list.
Christopher Parkening `s career has made a brilliant colorist, an impeccable and sensitive interpreter of this well reduced repertoire. His profound artistic conviction and convincing phrasing has been a perpetual motive of constant invitations and presentations around the world.
Extreme virtuosity.......2005-09-25
CP has become my chief inspiration to improve as a classical guitarist. His performances here are, without exception, phenomenal. He makes the most difficult pieces sound effortless. I prefer CP over John Williams because, while Williams is also unquestionably a master, he sounds a bit robotic to me at times. CP, on the other hand, never sacrifices musicality to precision. He sublimely maintains both.

Very calming and relaxing drumming.......2007-05-08
This is a very nice CD when I put it in to play my whole house relaxed and clamed down and just listened very nice. The drumming is fantatsic, but if you do not like native american flutes not a CD for you in some parts of the CD the flutes are very loud. But I really enjoy this CD.
Drum Medicine.......2007-01-12
I really enjoy both CD's Sacred Spirit Drums and Drum Medicine. I live in an area of very little resource for this type of purchase- I was very happy to find what I wanted online- also very glad to be able to listen before I purchased- would not have bought them without that. Service was the best- shipping was also very good.. I will consider this type of purchase again when needed.
Awesome Drum CD.......2006-07-13
This CD is awesome I have it in my car now and that is all I play.
Drum Medicine rocks........2006-03-11
This is the best cd for playing along with drums or dancing up a storm.
Incredible - can this be the work of two white men?????.......2005-09-01
You have to listen to this CD to believe it. I hear the Native American flute, drums .... it's one incredible CD. I bought it to learn to drum but enjoy listening to it just for relaxation, trance states, etc. This is superb!

Alice Deejay finds its inspiration at the nexus where house music meets Eurovision songwriting. The creative force behind Alice Deejay, and the voice fronting it, is a Dutch club DJ identified only as Judy. She's enlisted two other singers (Gaby and Jane) and a host of European house-music producers from the more pop end of the spectrum--people whose credits include remixing Ricky Martin's World Cup theme song and the Vengaboys. The result is a mixture of melodies that are heavily Europop with maybe a dash of contemporary U.S. Britney-'n'-Backstreet Top 40 over a beat that started with Giorgio Moroder in the late '70s, took a trip through the British Hi-NRG style in the '80s, and hasn't yet quit. The handiest comparison to someone who has combined a similar set of elements in an obviously successful way is to Cher and her hit "Believe," but the proof that crafting melodies that catchy is not easy is also on display. --Bob Bannister
Customer Reviews:
Who Needs Guitars Anyway?.......2007-02-27
Two-fingered basslines, cosmic wooshes and thunderous Yamaha beats certainly don't make for quality music, but in the case of Alice Deejay's arrogantly-titled "Who Needs Guitars Anyway?", it makes for one heck of a party. Fuelled by the ubiquitous single "Better Off Alone"- arguably the most recognizeable mainstream electronica hit alongside Darude's "Sandstorm" and ATB's "9 PM (Til I Come)"- the album dives right into throbbing club stomps and trife lyrics. It's pure Velveeta, but the thing we Americans fail to realize about these bizarre Euro kids is their willingness to accept that cheese factor and just dance. Take it from that perspective, and you'll find a club record with surprisingly entertaining results.
5 stars for the 3 tracks, 0 stars for the rest........2007-02-07
There are only three tracks on this CD worth anything. Everything else is just OK. If you like "Better Off Alone" enough to spend the money, Definately buy this CD, otherwise; Download the tracks off of Itunes.
has its moments.......2006-09-16
here's the deal, I'll be quick. I loved 'better off alone' and the only other track that struck me as being nearly as good was 'lonely one'.. all the rest are not what you are going to be expecting if you are going for what you've heard on the radio. Trust me its a well done album as far as production goes, but the beats and vocals get quite repetitious to put it mildly.
Who Needs Guitars Anyway? ~ Alice Deejay.......2006-04-01
Who Needs Guitars Anyway?~ Alice Deejay is a steupendous trance album with amazing sounds, loops and beats. The lyrics are great and have that eurovision quality to it that is perfect for this kind of music. I especially like the fact that they have seemingly handpicked the keyboard sounds. I love songs like the lonely one, no more lies, back in my life and better of alone. I especially the brilliant keyboard sounds used for the track the lonely one and no more lies. The production value for the album is top notch. This is a must have album for dance parties and clubbing as Alice Deejay has created one of the best trance albums of all time.
It's Ok.......2005-11-21
As a fan of euro, goa, and some synthpop. I was impressed by this release. It had 4 good songs.
Back In my life
The Lonely One
Waiting for your love
No More Lies
The rest was kind of dull or too cheesy for my taste, but dont let my tastes stop you if you're into this style for the beats or if you like cheesier stuff.

Excelent Performance.......2007-01-10
What can I say about Bach played by LAGQ but The Perfect Combination. The only thing reprochable is that some tracks like the "Loose" Cannon by Pachelbel ends in fade out instead of a real ending. I wish this was a two CD set.
For Thy Pleasure: Yeap, It is Very Enjoyable .......2006-10-25
For the first time, I listened to LAGQ from Vermont Public Radio while I came back home. After listening to "Little Fugue In G Minor", I could not get it out of my mind. I like the original version of Bach's organ music but the LAGQ version gave me a different feeling of music: True melancholy.
Buying the cd gave me a lot of joyful time. All the music in the cd were excellent. I believe there are a lot of musicians who are techically perfect but only a few of them can give me this kind of pleasure. All the music are beautiful and graceful. On top of that all of them are absolutely enjoyable.
Please try the last track, "Canon In D: The Pachelbel 'Loose' Cannon" when you are blue.
Amazing Guitars...And Then Some!.......2006-10-17
As a guitarist(mostly metal, neo-classical, rock, and blues), I have always been seeking that one 'classical' album that is just guitars working out entire orchestrations; no violins, cellos, etc(nothing personal, mind you...). This is that album. From the subtle to the intense, these 4 players work effortlessly together, putting together some faithful and authentic renditions of some familiar(some not so familiar)classical pieces. I was amazed at first just by the blinding technique, but began to appreciate the much more hidden aspects of this CD on multiple listenings. It has inspired me to look into a whole new style of playing. This is a really good starter CD for someone like myself who is just looking for some nice classical guitar ensembles.
Pleasure For Your Musical Soul .......2006-02-22
I listened to this CD three times straight to make sure I heard every outstanding note. The arrangements were superb, and the talent....
This CD is a must for anyone who loves guitar and arrangments that will have you humming in your sleep!!
Just amazing playing!.......2005-05-17
This cd is great, the repertoire isn't played very much, and these four gentlemen play it so well! My personal favorite track on the disc is the "loose" cannon! Just a fun arrangement of one of the most popular classical songs of all time, and it's virtuosic in every way! Another great CD. Enjoy!

Album Description
The BEST surf instro CD of the year with 32 tracks of the coolest Surf music from Golly Gee Records and Double Crown Records. With almost 80 minutes of music from 15 of today's hottest Surf Instro bands - You need to own this disc. All killer - no filler!
Customer Reviews:
Good songs.......2007-04-04
You take Bullseye, The Wayback Machine, and James Bond, and listen to those. They are good cuts. Then the rest, some of which I really don't like. But you take those three, maybe a couple more - it's worth the discount price. For those, I'd recommend it. I put two of those on one of my mix cds right along with my remixes of Metallica live (SnD), Sabbath live (Into Void), Nugent (Please Don't), etc. And I can get tired of those, and never much listen to the lyrics at all. But I like listening to Bullseye and Wayback, over and over again. I'm very partial to guitar intrumentals, with some 'groove' and energy.
THERE'S NO DENYING.......2006-10-26
THAT THIS SURF MUSIC CD GETS YOU GOING. I AGREE WITH ONE OF THE OTHER REVIEWERS THAT THE SONGS MAY AT TIMES SEEM A BIT FORMULAIC, NEVERTHELESS IT IS STILL PRETTY GOOD AND BETTER THAN MOST OF THE CRAP YOU WOULD HEAR ON THE RADIO NOWADAYS. SO IT GETS AND EXTRA STAR FOR THAT BY ITSELF. HOWEVER, THERE IS NOT ONE CUT ON THIS CD THAT IS TRULY ORIGINAL.......AND IT LOSES A STAR FOR THAT!
why surf music died.......2006-07-28
While this may sound negative for the sake of bashing, i grew up with surf music and really like it. Heck I play it (as i imagine some of the people interested in this genre might too). WHile ther are one or four somewhat intersting cuts- this is quantity not quality surf.
Back in the day there werent as many super guitarists, but lots of pretty competant guys....well this cd shows that these cuts seem to be emulating that level of playing and creativity.
The best of the genre is great-this cd is a sampler of Golly Gees and Crown records 'stable'-personally i think it is stale and uncreative-kind of a modern surf thrash-suitable for modern day movie sound tracks-ie -I-IV-V's with insipid repeating hooks and bashing drums, the ballad in minor, but nothing taking the genre someplace new and better, or taking the old and putting a great new twist on it. Just my opinion.
I wouldnt buy this again, as I really found it formulaic and an imitation of the genre with little new or inspiring. and next time ill listen to more cuts more carefully before buying. The sound quality however is quite good, as are the catchy tune titles and group names.
surf mania!.......2004-04-11
The title of this alblum sounds a bit cheesy but the music in the CD is excellent. The songs sound much better on my stereo than the little speakers in my computer. This CD is a champ as far as giving you your moneys worth of songs. I could not find any songs I did not like to listen to and was very impressed with the Supertones songs on the alblum. While not quite as authentic as real 60's surf music I find the collection of songs here to be some of the very best of whats offered today in the modern day surf guitar sound.
This is a Great CD!.......2003-12-20
I picked this CD up after I purchased the other Golly Gee release "Rockabilly Rumble". Someone had recommended it and since "Rockabilly Rumble" was such a great record, I had to have this one as well. I was not disappointed at all. This is an incredible CD with almost and hour and a half of music! No boring tracks at all - and surf music can be boring. After listening to it all the way through I had to listen again and again. "War of The Surf Guitars" is definitely worth buying - even if you live in Texas and can't see the ocean ; )

An A-list of musically diverse acolytes surrounds the venerable country icon on this concert recording, which pays richer dividends than its studio-album predecessor, The Great Divide. Artists from Sheryl Crow to Norah Jones and Vince Gill to Keith Richards help celebrate one of the richest legacies in American music. Though some hit-and-miss is inevitable, the teaming with Richards, Ryan Adams, and Hank Williams III on "Dead Flowers" romps all over the Rolling Stones' original, while the duet with mentor Ray Price, who enjoyed an early hit with Nelson's "Night Life," shows a sense of history too often missing from such demographic-driven projects. Other highlights include the sweet-voiced balladry of Jones on "Lonestar" and a luminous rendition of "Blue Eyes Cryin' in the Rain" by Gill. As for the misfires: Adams and Nelson sound like they're in different keys on Jimmy Cliff's "The Harder They Come"; Toby Keith isn't even a poor man's Waylon Jennings on "Good Hearted Woman"; and the very idea of Matchbox Twenty singing "Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys" is ludicrous. Even when the material and guest vocalists don't mesh, Nelson's guitar punctuation remains an understated (and underrated) delight. --Don McLeese

Stars and Guitars - Willie Nelson & Friends.......2006-11-10
While the overall quality and tracks are good, I think the over mixing of
background crowd applause becomes quite annoying after the first couple
of tracks. In other words the duration of background applause should have
been reduced in time by 60%.
So much for live recordings!
I Love Willie!.......2006-07-18
This is a great group of work with the exception of just a couple songs. But anyone who is truly a Willie fan will enjoy it for the spirit it represents!
For What it's Worth with Cheryl Crow is just wonderful! Willie and Cheryl together.....Can't get any better than that!
Willie's Perfect "Picnic"!.......2004-06-07
I love Willie and this has become one of my favorite live "Wille Albums"! All of the songs on this recording are wonderful and distinctly reveal Willie's ability as guitarist, songwriter, and performer. The many people who he invited to perform with him have been influenced by him and are proud to be a part of this album. There is no gimmick-madness trying to make some last minute money with an old country legend here!
Additionally, I have to say that those who did not like Aaron Neville's 'Stardust' need to listen to it again (and again!). It is the subtlety of Willie's vocals with Neville's unique singing ability that makes the song perhaps one of the best covers I have heard of 'Stardust'. Long live Willie! This is Willie revealing his genius. Buy this CD!
