About the Artist
Betsy Bowen
Betsy is an artist, illustrator and award-winning author of nine books. Her books and popular woodcut prints appear in galleries and stores throughout the country. She has a flute segment on Track 15.
Michael is a singer/songwriter with five other (solo) albums to his credit. He has performed in venues throughout the country and has a large following in Minnesota. He was nominated several years ago for Indie Album of the Year by the Minnesota Music Academy. In June 2002 he appeared in concert with Michael McDonald (formerly with Doobie Brothers), Bernie Leadon (formerly of The Eagles), Grammy winning songwriter Jon Vezner, and Kathy Mattea. Michael is on vocals, guitar, flute, percussion. He engineered the album and recorded it at his log cabin, solar-powered studio.
Maryl Skinner, who wrote the melodies and lyrics for the album, hasn’t won any awards that she can remember. But she did receive a grant for songwriting in the previous millennium. She has been writing songs since the early '80s. Since 1995 she has written original material (songs and sketches of a different genre) for a trio that she has performed with in Minnesota. As part of that group she was a guest on the Morning Show of Minnesota Public Radio. (Maryl is also on vocals, percussion).
Album Description
Antler, Bear, Kazoo was inspired by "Anter, Bear, Canoe;" "Gathering;" "Tracks in the Wild," and other books by award-winning author/illustrator Betsy Bowen. The collection features a delightful mix of lighthearted, playful tunes with thoughtful lyrics that are illustrated in the accompanying full-color, 32-page CD booklet featuring Betsy's popular woodcuts. This musical celebration of life in the North Woods appeals to children as well as adults.
