About the Artist
Frank Yankovic was born on Davis, WV on July 28, 1915. At the age of sixteen, Frank got his first piano accordion. He took six lessons and formed a three-piece band accordion, banjo, and drums. During the years that followed, Frank and his Slovenian Band toured the East and Middle West, playing dances and radio engagements.

Frank's big break came in 1948 when he released "Just Because." It sold more than a million copies. This was followed by another million seller "Blue Skirt Waltz." While riding the wave of success, Yankovic won the title of "America's Polka King" at Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1950.

4 out of 5 stars Good performances, tinny sound, weird stereo.......1999-09-24

It's hard to tell when this recording was first made. The liner notes mention 23 vinyl LPs on Columbia, but ignore five later RCA releases. Around 1970 would be a good guess for recording date. The performances are energetic, but the recording lacks bass. The entire rhythm section is on the extreme left, while the melody instruments (accordion and solovox) are on the extreme right. When there are vocals, they are centered, sort of, but they sound slightly out of phase, as though they were recorded through a telephone. After one gets used to these oddities, the recording becomes thoroughly enjoyable.

5 out of 5 stars I THINK THE QUALITY OF SOUND IS GREAT, A LOT OF FUN!.......1999-08-20

I PLAYED WITH THE YANKOVIC BAND FROM SPRING 1961 TO SUMMER 66. ENGAGEMENTS WERE IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. WEST COVINA AND LA PUENTE, ALONG WITH SAN JOSE, AND RICHMOND AND EL CERITTO. NEVADA ENGAGEMENTS WERE AT THE HOLIDAY INN, RENO, AND STOCKMEN'S IN ELKO. MY FATHER RECORDED ON REEL TO REEL AT ALL THE ENGAGMENTS AND THE CDS ARE AT LEAST AS GOOD IF NOT BETTER IN QUALITY. THE CD BRINGS BACK THE LIFE IN SOUND AND ENJOYMENT OF COURSE I HAVE ORDERED THE CD.I'VE ONLY LISTENED TO THE SONGS YOU'VE MADE AVAILABLE ON SAMPLES. THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH! I CAN'T WAIT TO HEAR ALL THE SONGS ALL THE WAY THROUGH.

HAPPILY, FRED NELLI
